Phat Loot Phriday: Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter

Let's talk numbers, shall we?
Name: Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter
Type: Two-Handed Axe
Damage: 801 - 1203 Damage, 294.7 DPS
Speed: 3.40
Attributes:
- 169 Strength
- 161 Stamina
- One red socket and one blue socket
- Chance on hit: Steals 2138 to 2362 life from target enemy.
And once we're seeing hard modes downed in a few months (weeks?) the Heroic version will be an available alternative.
Name: Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter (Heroic)
Type: Two-Handed Axe
Damage: 888-1329 Damage, 325.7 DPS
Speed: 3.40
Attributes:
- 185 Strength
- 173 Stamina
- One red socket and one yellow socket
- Chance on hit: Steals 2412 to 2664 life from target enemy.
Heroic Bryntroll is even one of the best death knight tanking weapons available in the game, with only Ramaladni's Blade of Culling coming close. Depending on your other stats, you could go either way there.
How to Get It: As mentioned above, you waltz into Icecrown Citadel, de-bone Lord Marrowgar, and hope the loot gods smile upon your pallid husk. It's a simple fight, but we have a strategy guide for you should you need it.
Getting Rid of It: The current upgrades to Bryntroll are Heroic Bryntroll, Shadow's Edge (for certain classes) or the legendary Shadowmourne.
Additional Information: It's rare that I point people to Elitist Jerks, but at this level of the raid game, you can probably handle it. If you want to know exactly how this weapon stacks up for your class compared to the competition, Elitist Jerks is the place to be. Just make sure you follow the rules, or you might find yourself kicked to the curb rather fast.

My guild has gotten 5 in 5 weeks. We're giving them to people for offspec now.
Mognet T Jan 8th 2010 8:38PM
Can I be in your guild!?
K Jan 8th 2010 8:31PM
We got this to drop our first night in ICC 25. I got it on my DK because I was the only main spec there :D

Those are some nice stats ... pity the axe looks like the offspring of BC's Floating Crystal Aesthetic and pure Evil. My Draenei pally (ret/prot) isn't even idly entertaining the idea of Shadowmourne ... what's that you say? A soul-sucking weapon forged of congealed death god snot that constantly whispers to its wielder? Such a pity there's not another weapon ending in -mourne to show us how *that* will turn out. I feel conflicted about using the Citadel Whatsit's Claymore, since it's forged from Saronite. Even if it *is* awfully pretty.
WTB Battered Hilt PST, ha.
TheTree Jan 8th 2010 9:25PM
Which you reforge with... wait for it... Infused Saronite.
During the quest line Uther himself calls you an idiot.
To be fair you do purify the blade in the end.
Fletcher Jan 8th 2010 10:49PM
Precisely ... but I don't think there's a "purify Shadowmourne" quest like there is for Quel'Delar.

You should turn up some of your ingame detail when you take these screenshots
Having everything on minimum detail like this really makes the game appear 7 years old =(
Alex Ziebart Jan 9th 2010 1:31AM
I only had access to my laptop when I took the screenshot, unfortunately. The poor girl doesn't run WoW very well.

A bit unrelated but Arbiter means master in latin so, Bryntroll the bone master.
Well at least latin isn't completely useless :D
(P.S. Another latin name I found was Ignis which = fire in latin)
Eddy Jan 8th 2010 10:45PM
...or in English, it means the following:
1. a person empowered to decide matters at issue; judge; umpire.
2. a person who has the sole or absolute power of judging or determining.
So it doesn't really mean 'master' per se, at least not in English- the meaning is more specific than that. I would say that Latin is a good start for divining meaning of words, but a dictionary is much more useful on most occasions.

They should have named it the Bone Umpire.

It's dropped 3 times for my guild so far. First time went to me, as the tank. This weapon is great for us DK tanks.

With Blizzard's current stating of how the proc rate was bugged for ret paladins/unholy dks (somehow), this axe is just even more terrible for me as a Ret Paladin. When I first saw this all I could think was that Blizzard was retarded. Even the rest of our melee plate dps thinks this is the most retarded weapon ever to exist.
slartibart Jan 8th 2010 10:58PM
Why the (somehow) there's so many odd effects being put out by both rets and unholys (phys, magic etc) that I can easily see how it could "somehow" over-proc. Even after the adjustment it's still a very high ranked weapon for both specs.
Alex Ziebart Jan 9th 2010 1:37AM
The weapon is not terrible for a Ret Paladin. It is one of the best weapons we can get our hands on. You are doing yourself a disservice by not using it.
Merrena Jan 9th 2010 9:53AM
One of our other melee dps decided to test this out and he said it was just terrible and hardly ever procced making it worthless imo. I have my opinions, you have yours, but I shall never wish to carry around this weapon.
Bigmu Jan 9th 2010 12:30PM
Yes of course, because a weapon that gives 407 Attack Power (and therefore 122.1 Spellpower) with a proc roughly equal to a free Flash of Light on yourself is terrible...
I followed the link to the EJ forum's rules and saw rule #4:
"Whining in any form is forbidden. Blizzard is not incompetent or stupid and they are not intentionally screwing you over and neither is anyone else. If all you're going to do is complain, don't bother posting."
I wish we could take it one step further: every time someone says that Blizzard is retarded, a little tack hammer pops out of the top of your monitor and gives you a rap on the forehead.
"But Blizz is stupid"
DONK!
"Hey! That hurt! They are though! I can't believe they'd put that stat on a weapon"
DONK!
"Owww! But I personally don't like that proc - so Blizz is taking crack again"
DONK!
"Okay! Okay! I realise now that the game doesn't revolve around me and that a proc is not on a timer set in stone. I understand now that a 12ppm proc, for example, is based on weapon speed like Windfury or Berserker"
BenMS Jan 8th 2010 9:48PM
Telling people to read the rules before posting on EJ is a really good idea. The BB appreciates your efforts.
