WoW Moviewatch: Shattrath: The Forgotten City
Do you remember Shattrath City? It was the busy, bustling hub of the Outland. You could fly in and out of it, pick up some awesome badge loot, and even check out a music show? Those were the days. Of course, now, everyone's moved on to the floating city of Dalaran, and busily raiding the heck out of Arthas.
Wowcrendor has revisited the abandoned stomping ground with his new video Shattrath: The Forgotten City. He's taken the time to zip back through the old town, and check in some old friends like Haris Pilton. This is pretty classic Wowcrendor material, and it definitely takes me down nostalgia lane. I remember spending hours in the place, scaring up extra raiders for a PUG Karazhan.

I miss Shattrath City.

Clink....clank....clink.....Are you injured?
I always remember the big pile of bones below the aldor rise elevator, back when everyone but druids couldn't get flying until 70, yet many people put their hearth at the inn on one of the factions rises while they were still leveling. Though I used to do the palychute method for getting to the bottom quick without waiting on the elevator-- jump, bubble, land. Though that led to a few oh sh** it's on cooldown moments.

I wonder which cities will rise with Cataclysm. Chances are most people will be hanging out in the vanilla WoW cities. It'll be strange to be setting a hearth to Ironforge again. Or will it be easier to keep the hearth at Dalaran and then to use the portals to get to where I want to go?
I already shell out the 5g for a port to Dalaran for my lowbie alts just so they can use the portals to get around.

I suspect Ironforge will again become the top city for Alliance, with Stormwind probably very busy with new low level characters (and Worgens in their new District).
That being said, I remember something about Deepholm being a 'hub' zone that connects all the new 80-85 zones.. so maybe that could end up as a hearth location.

I still pass through Shatt on a daily basis to go to Sethekk Halls for my mount run of the Raven Lord. It's weird seeing it so empty and I'm sure Dala will be the same when Cataclysm comes out. I wonder if there will be a new big city or if we will just revert back to the major cities like Org and Ironforge?

It is sad. How many places in the Warcraft world are now forgotten and never used? At least they made a 80 Onyxia. However maybe a 80 TK or BT a 80 RFC... oh well all them pixels and CPU going to waste.

"FRUIT VENDOR!!! Your cart is still in our way! We will give you one more hour to move it from our area. Do not test our patience anymore!"

I CRUSHED AN APPLE, FRUIT VENDOR! IT WILL NOT BE THE LAST!

I have quit wow for about 6 months now but I am going to come back in febuary. But one place in wow that always sticks out in my mind is Shattrath.. Oh how I long for the days of BC... wrath just doesn't feel the same.

For some reason I seem to recall reading that in Cataclysm there won't be a big, new Sanctuary City added like there have been in past expansions. I think there may be a small 'hub' where you could go for a hearth location, but for the most part they may be trying to redirect attention to the original major cities.

I am all for this, except maybe for the holiday achievements that require you to do X to enemy Faction y. Without a major hub city, these achievements will be much harder.

To be fair, I never liked Shattrath as a city. It was basically just a big circle, not a very interesting design. Plus, the brownish colors and the perpetual overcast skies.. it was a bit gloomy.
Tori Jan 8th 2010 12:55PM
Yeah, I really wasn't fond of the colour scheme in Shattrath at all.
More so, the NOISE! Ugh, I could hardly stand being there for longer than I had to, the background noises and talking and laughing were just unbearable.
Siorra Jan 8th 2010 1:00PM
You both sound like aged, has-been designers.
Nostalgia will make you like the worst of things.

First time I got to Shattrath I was wondering what the car-alarm-ish noise in the background was. Never did find out, I guess it's supposed to be some kind of Terokkar wildlife.

There will be no new major city like Shatt and Dal. Seeing as how we're fighting on our homeland it only makes sense that we will spend our time in the major cities. Of course Exodar and Silvermoon city will still be ghost towns but that's nothing new.
Sorcefire Jan 8th 2010 5:25PM
So if Dal (and Shatt) still have ports to major cities why would we *not* keep our hearth there? Dal has all the prof trainers handy along with repairs, inns, and ports...so why on earth would I anchor myself to an old world city and waste time on boats or flightpaths to get around?
Unless they plan to install ports in all major cities to other cities. Then we'd see the population spread out. Be honest, the only reason we all boned for Shatt and Dal were the portals to save the god-awful time sinks of flying and taking boats places. Flying mounts will help, but we I doubt it will be that popular.

Too bad he's not a priest and couldn't equip the Eye of Shadow to get a shot with the HAris Pilton's ghostly ex-friend...
:)
Sintraedrien Jan 9th 2010 3:43AM
Actually, that was the Eye of Divinity ;)
My main is a priest, and even after I got Benediction I went back just to get the Eye so I could see Ricole.

Really? Wow, i hated Shat. It's probably my least favorite city in the game. The entire thing is a puke green color for starters - very ugly, and its so spread out with the Scryer/Aldor tiers way up on the top, and the Lower city vendors waaayyy down at the bottom. It was a good thing we could fly in it otherwise it would have been hell to navigate on a daily basis.
I did like the Orc/fruit vendor flavor text though. And i liked that there was a quest where u actually had to kill something in lower city. I remember helping people with that one a lot.
