Prot Warrior nerf details

Honestly, neither of these are huge gamebreakers. I liked that Warbringer cleared roots and snares for me when I was tanking, and I barely even noticed it in PvP: it was like a free self-cast Hand of Freedom. As for nerfing Shield Slam, well, like I said I don't stack block value so a lower block value cap on the ability wouldn't really affect me. Irritate me? Yes, it will do that. But it isn't a game breaker either. Of course, since as the commenters mentioned yesterday prot PvP warriors don't stack shield block value at all (I know you guys don't read my posts, Blizzard, but if for some reason someone is, look at all that ArP. Look at all that lack of block value. It is ArP that drives the prot PvP damage machine. ArP, not block value. Just thought I'd mention that) then I fail to see any point to the change either.
So there we have it: Warbringer gets changed and Shield Slam might get changed which is like taking a club away from a guy who is shooting people.

We're going to have a very unhappy main tank tomorrow evening for 25's as well. :(
Nerf bat sucks, but I imagine the job of trying to balance classes within and without pvp and pve sucks even more for the devs. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Is it just me or are pallies once again going un-nerfed to a very similar situation? Yes, I've seen warriors crit for 20k+ damage with a shield slam thanks to the T10 set tier bonus. But that's physical damage, so it gets mitigated by armor. I've also seen prot pallies do the same thing with their equivalent skill, Shield of Righteousness, up to 18k crits of HOLY DAMAGE (holy damage is NOT mitigated by armor). A shield slam crit would do maybe 8-12k to a geared plate wielder, and this can only be done in the 10 seconds of shield block ability. Pallies can pretty much that damage all day long, but obviously, 18k non-physical damage on demand isn't worth a nerf.
End of my rant about how blizzard loves to ignore paladins. I think I'll roll one.

You must have seen the paladin on the best day of his life then. The most I have ever seen a BV boosted crit for Shield of Righteousness in the 10 to 12k range. And thats on a crit, which in prot gear happens around once a month. I am pretty sure the paladin spell already has the BV cap on it they are giving to warriors, as there comes a point where adding more does not seem to do much.

On a completely different subject - who was the warrior player that made the video that got Rage Normalized way back when? He's got an NPC named after him someplace, forgot the name...

His name was Indalamar and the NPC(Ramaladni) was in the original 40man Naxx.

@ Butts
Where have you been? Paladins are pretty much the most focused and worked on AND nerfed class there is. Asking for more undeserved nerfs because of a perceived insult to the warrior class is rather childish.

I use charge during combat as a warrior tank all the time. This will be crippling in pulls with multiple casters.
MoarHeroisms Jan 9th 2010 2:22PM
Warbringer will still allow warriors to Charge in combat. It just won't remove snares anymore. It's good in a way because prot warriors have four stun attacks available (Concussion Blow, Shockwave, Charge, Intercept), and if they can't Charge/Intercept out of snares, it'll lower the rate of diminishing returns against enemies. Their mobility seems the root cause of their "OPness" in PvP, so this takes them down a notch without completely destroying their utility in overall gameplay.

I love the analogy at the end. "Taking a club away from a guy who's shooting people."
Just awesome.
Coldbear Jan 9th 2010 2:47PM
was just about to post the exact same thing, in those words
Shisho Jan 9th 2010 4:39PM
It didn't make sense to me. I suppose it sounds clever, but taking a club away from someone shooting someone would mean that it has no effect on what they're doing, but these changes will have an effect. It'll most likely put an end to high rated Prot PVP in Arena, and it'll take a bit of utility and possibly threat away from tanks.
jared.daniels Jan 9th 2010 7:02PM
He's talking about pve tank utility. These changes won't really effect the shooter (tank).

My prot warrior is pretty much PvP-only, and Warbringer is the coolest shit ever. Or was. I don't usually complain about nerfs, but this one I really do not like.
LuminousNerd Jan 9th 2010 2:23PM
This is a bad article. It's little more than an uninformative eant. You didn't even explain the changes, just ranted about them. I'm left wondering what the nerfs actually do...
Also if you think charging out of snares won't affect pvp then you don't understand pvp in the slightest!!

still no edit button? Buncha lazies
Kevin Jan 9th 2010 2:27PM
did you even read the article? he explained exactly what the nerfs are.
and he didn't say charging out of snares didn't effect pvp, he said he didn't notice the snares.
Matthew Rossi Jan 9th 2010 2:45PM
"Protection spec warriors, did you enjoy being able to charge out of roots and snares to get back to the boss fast? Well, thanks to PvP, you won't be able to do that anymore."
First two sentences of the post.
Seriously. Learn. To. Read. It's not even funny anymore.
