Maintenance announced for Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

So it was some surprise to me to see a Saturday afternoon announcement from blue poster Enthati. We'll be having some downtime this Tuesday from 5 AM pacific to approximately 11 AM pacific. This is honestly probably the earliest I can recall ever seeing a downtime announcement go up. This, in turn, makes me wonder if something's up. 5-11 is a pretty short window, not enough to expect a patch, I'd think.
Of course, I'm all for earlier advanced notice of downtime, so you won't hear me complain if this early announcement is just a new policy. If nothing else, I'll be able to go to bed earlier on Monday nights. And on Tuesday morning, you can head over here for all the latest news on the server downtime and all the other happenings around the world of WoW.

Some more Cataclysmic Events are to come it seems. For this was Predicted by the Prophet Skeram at Ahn'Qiraj
From Geologist Larksbane in Silithus
"It is history ... A history of Silithus ... of Ahn'Qiraj ... of Titans and Old Gods ... I read from the prophecy of C'Thun as written by the Qiraji Prophet Skeram. A prophecy that portends a cataclysm ...

Shot in the dark.
They're implementing some more Cataclysm pre game events; more quakes, more storms?

Lol, World of WoW?
World of World of Warcraft

More cataclysm-related stuff makes sense. And if so, this is great! I was hoping they would gradually bring in cataclysm-related events, culminating with the first official Cataclysm patch.
Wonder what they'll change, if they do change anything...

Aw, bugger.
My only playtime is in the morning (7-11am by WoW time), and so nearly every Tuesday I just effectively lose 1/7th of my subscription time. But every Tuesday morning I check in anyway, and *squeee!*, sometimes there's no maintenance and I get to play unexpectedly!
Those days are like a surprise gift, and knowing this far in advance that there WILL be maintenance pretty much kills that for me. Oh well. I'm glad to know that early announcements make other people's days go smoother, at least. :)

Wouldn't that be something like 2/15ths of your subscription time? Since it's by the month...
(And yes, I realize my math failed probably)

I'm so hoping they are implementing a huge worgen plague like when everyone was a zombie, but its doubtful. It'd probably be too predictable and it looks like they want to surprise us. Then again it may be nothing at all, they had a lot of bugs last patch maybe they're just preparing for a big fix.
Kredia Jan 10th 2010 4:32PM
The huge worgen plague that you mention is called patch 4.0's release

Too early for anything Cata related, we still have ICC to handle.
My guess it's gonna be bug fixes and possibly some minor changes to warriors and rogues.
dokhidamo Jan 10th 2010 12:26PM
Isn't the next part of ICC opening soon as well?
Perhaps that's this week, and that's why the matinence was so easy to spot.
Or it could be so they can hitch up their new Cataclysm Alpha servers to the network.

They are just giving us a chance to participate in the first day of the open beta for STO.
Pemberton Jan 10th 2010 12:39PM
On behalf of those of us night shifters who come home on Tuesday morning never quite sure if we're going to get to play or not (we practically squeal with glee even if we only have to put up with rolling restarts!), I like the ahead of time warnings.
Hoggersbud Jan 10th 2010 12:42PM
Whatever it is, we won't know what it was, and it if doesn't go well, we won't know why.
Shiro Jan 10th 2010 1:33PM
Like a lot of others I have a feeling it has a lot to do with the planned F&F Alpha this Tuesday. It would just make sense that they would plan this a little farther in advance than the others.

Please, oh please, let it be the new VOA boss. I need more Frost badges a week.
Sky Jan 10th 2010 3:05PM
raid more?
MazokuRanma Jan 10th 2010 3:33PM
The VoA bosses correspond directly to arena seasons; as such, the new one should arrive with the advent of season 8 on January 26.
Aisriyth Jan 10th 2010 3:04PM
I HOPE it fixes the bugged quests in Howling Fjord!
Methuus Jan 10th 2010 3:58PM
I work in IT, and I fantasize about being able to get away with the amount of scheduled downtime on the systems I manage as Blizzard does on the WoW servers.
Multiple hours every week! It's amazing.

Maybe a buff/nerf patch for warlocks and warriors?
