Around Azeroth: Waiting in vain
Disappointed with the content in Wrath of the Lich King, Cygnus of <Tetractys of the Decad> on Drenden has decided to be first in line to greet Deathwing at Grim Batol. He sent in the following poem/rant/Unabomber-esque screed about tanking in WotLK:
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. - Cygnus is waiting. Cygnus is a protection warrior that, like many heroes, was promised glory in the frozen north. Cygnus arrived in the freezing wastes to find no glory, but only that all the crowd control is now solely his job. Cygnus looked up to a sky with no sun, only to see a drake he had to ride, depriving him from his sword. Cygnus loved to learn new abilities during his training, and felt miserable when he was ordered to ride and charge with a lance. Cygnus hates being cold. Cygnus has had it with the Lich King. Cygnus is in Wetlands until the voices in his head stop calling for a "taunt". Cygnus is now at the doors of Grim Batol, where the sun shines, and a new promise of glory will be made. Cygnus is waiting.

I feel Cygnus's pain. I truly do. :(

My moonkin was finally allowed to cast root indoors in this expansion. Trouble is, the only place I have use of it is in the flagroom in warsong gulch... >.<
I miss the need for crowd control, that was a good part of the game. It fostered teamwork, LK heroics is just mindless zerging, especially these days when everybody's wearing item level 235+ in pretty much every slot.

If you want to relive the old days, the LFG system makes it easy! If you really want every pull to be a complicated puzzle requiring intricate set-up, just do an old world dungeon with a level appropriate group.

I will join that warrior... I feel myself exactly same.
I'm sick and tired of "glorious north" with no glory, but PUGs of casuals!

Cygnus is in the wrong place. Cygnus will find only Twilight's Hammer in Grim Batol. Cygnus will go to the next location after Deathwing breaches the world.

Nice picture, and an excellent short critique on what Blizz got wrong with WotLK (although it's important to note that they got a ton right!)

Poor Cygnus. Sometimes I know how he feels.
Terethall Jan 11th 2010 10:32AM
Holy crap. I'm on Drenden, and I ran ToC two days ago with Cyg and ended up in a random dungeon with him last night.
/highfive next time I see him.

Haha, I pugged Icecrown 10-man with him the other night. Cool guy, did a good job explaining the fights. We'll get Saurfang next week!
First Big Red Kitty, now this!

Don't forget Gigi. *shudder*

Awesome. I may start a Cygnus fan club! Although why he's named after a swan is beyond me...
Itanius Jan 11th 2010 10:48AM
Cygnus is also a constellation, which many people use as names.
F. Somalia Jan 11th 2010 11:15AM
I understand Cygnus. I will join the fan club.
Ronin Jan 11th 2010 8:15PM
Yeah, I was aware that Cygnus is a constellation (also known as the "Northern Cross"). I was just being silly.
Hmm... Northern Cross... you'd think he'd LOVE Northrend, then!
Itanius Jan 11th 2010 10:47AM
Bravo, Cygnus, bravo. Well played, sir!
Beatphreek Jan 11th 2010 10:51AM
I hope Cygnus likes to swim...

I want to feel sympathy for Cygnus but something tells me this time next expansion he'll be waiting just the same for the next one because 1) they probably won't be cutting back on vehicular mechanics 2) the instances will still call for him to just do crowd control and 3) Frankly, with only 5 levels to gain he won't actually be learning many new abilities even with the new ways the customize himself through archeology...
Guess he'll have to keep waiting, reroll another class or just quit all together. Sorry to be such a downer, but this is how new expansion angst goes; WoW just hasn't experienced much of it with only 2 expansions under its belt.

Cygnus seems unaware of the irony in his rant. "only to see a drake he had to ride, depriving him from his sword. Cygnus loved to learn new abilities during his training, and felt miserable when he was ordered to ride and charge with a lance." The horse and the drake provide new abilities for Cygnus to learn, just like during his training! And Cygnus still uses his trained abilities for 99% of the fights in the game. One would think Cygnus would be pleased for a break from the tedious repetition of his prot warrior experience by getting to use a mount's abilities for a single encounter in an instance or raid.
Glaras Jan 11th 2010 1:49PM
Those are not Cygnus' abilities. They are *vehicle abilities* only relevant in gimmick fights. Unlike the FL fight in Ulduar, the jousting is unsatisfying, both to Cygnus and me.
artifex Jan 11th 2010 1:58PM
I'm not even sure how they make it RP, as there's no back story about the jousting tradition on Azeroth, etc. Because there's never been the feudal system and all that. But it's really annoying for some of us without good hand-eye coordination to do the Crusader quests.
