Breakfast Topic: What do you do while waiting for LFG to pop?

Matt Rossi: I have time to inhale a couple of times during the LFD queue.
Allison Robert: To amuse myself, I start counting, "One mississippi, two mississippi, three mississippi..." from releasing the mouse's left button on the Join Group option and the queue popping. However, I am likely to discontinue the practice, as my brain is having increasing difficulty remembering what comes directly after three. It starts with an F. I know it does.
Alex Ziebart: When I'm queueing on my DPS, I tab out and play a different game for 15-20 minutes. On my healer, I brace myself so I don't get whiplash zoning into a heroic so fast.
Eliah Hecht: I have about enough time to cross my fingers hoping it's not Old Kingdom again.
Robin Torres: I tend to my farm in Country Life.
Fox Van Allen: The LFD daily is the first thing I do when logging on for the day, so I usually do the cooking and fishing daily. Since I'm a DPS and usually have obnoxiously long waits, I get bored enough to toggle between windows, looking at the armory and WoW.com. By the time I tab back to the Warcraft window, I've just missed the ready check and have three angry guildies cursing at me for throwing us back to the end of the queue to wait for another tank.
Chase Christian: Two words: dual monitors. I am waiting in two DPS queues at once! Ideally the heroic takes less time than the DPS queue, and one of my toons sits in Dalaran while the other vanquishes monsters.
Matt Low: I usually blink once or twice before my queue pops up. Dunno about you guys.
Amanda Miller: I have about enough time to ponder whether or not I might be able to sprint to the kitchen for some water and back after clicking to queue. On my DPS, believe it or not, I quest. Usually you can get a good 30-45 minutes in, if not more.
Eliah Hecht: Damn, 30-45 min? And I thought my BG was bad at 15-ish.
Fox Van Allen: Now imagine waiting those 30-45 minutes, having the LFD spinner land on Culling of Stratholme, and having your tank disappear into the ether without saying a word cause he/she doesn't want to wait the five minutes for Arthas's speech to end...
Dominic Hobbs: Had a bloody bear leave group from Oculus today. Nothing unusual there but this sod waited till we were half way round the first lot of trash, pulled 3 groups then split. Tanks are the new divas.
Amanda Miller: I find that people drop like flies when they see that they have landed in Oculus, despite the fact that it has been nerfed and there are new rewards for finishing it.
Allison Robert: Tanks were always divas, and I say this having played one for close to three years now.
Matt Rossi: What else would keep us doing it?
Rossi wins the thread. So what about you, our reading public -- what do you do waiting for the Dungeon Finder to pop?

I usually do my dailies and farm. Or I'll look things up on the web and check back a lot to make sure I didn't miss the queue.
SpyderTaco (XBL: Zergvasion) Jan 11th 2010 8:16AM
Same, except the things I look up on the web are NSFW.
Beruza Jan 11th 2010 8:25AM
Same. Dailies. Farming or Fishing. Reading wow.com.
Occasionally I will use the bathroom...but somehow I usually miss the queue in that 30-45 seconds lol

This is infact - an issue of huge frustration for me.
On my DPS - I have tailoring and enchanting, so when I'm in queue I largely have nothing to do. I'm not really into daily's and I don't bother questing so I tend to just hang around the 10 or so minutes it takes.
On my tank however I have two gathering professions, so time in Q would be time spent out gathering only I never have to Queue because it's instant for Tanks.
There I did it... I QQ'd about no Q.

I blink once.
Tanks ftw.
Banic Rhys Jan 11th 2010 9:06AM
Arg and I just noticed that Matt Low stole my answer :S
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jan 11th 2010 9:29AM
Dailies for the ADC if I'm on any alt that isn't a healer or tank. I find I don't have to wait a lot if I'm going as a tank though.
Hedwinkle Jan 11th 2010 9:40AM
I tab out of game also, but to avoid having to keep checking for fear of missing the queue, there is an option you can use to enable game sounds even if the game is running in the background...so you'll hear the queue when it pops up ;)

Well I tend to queue as a tank and my wife queues with me as a healer, so out wait time is about .2 seconds. Not much time to do anything other than click a button to teleport into the dungeon.
Although it sucks when I do queue as DPS, "estimated wait time is 15 minutes"....30 minutes later.
marco Jan 11th 2010 12:53PM
Matt stole my answer too! I was going to say "I breathe."
arindar Jan 11th 2010 3:05PM
I do the same on my dps. If I cant find a tank from the guild to queue with i will go run some dailies or sit and hoc jc and lw in trade chat if i did the dailies already.
On my tank i do not have any wait time ever. I click to queue and I get a group.
Draelan Jan 11th 2010 3:27PM
@ Falgorn
I feel your pain. I have numerous 80s, most are DPS, but my tank is an herbalist/alchemist.
I need herbs to make cards for my main's darkmoon faire rep. But my herbalist gets instant queues, so... yeah.
Oddly enough, queueing as DPS on my undergeared priest was getting me groups incredibly quickly last night. Wasn't even able to get halfway through the fp from Dal to AT grounds. lol
Graham Jan 11th 2010 4:16PM
@Draelan
You probably get fast queues BECAUSE you're undergeared. A few weeks ago, the hosts of The Instance were talking about the LFG tool, and apparently it tries to group people up so that they will succeed. (Meaning, they won't group a bunch of overgeared players together when there are some undergeared ones that won't be able to do it in a group of undergeared players). Since there are (probably) less undergeared people using the LFG queue, you probably get priority because you have a lower gearscore. Maybe. It was kind of a rumor.
I usually do Argent Tournament dailies, farm meat or mine. I always do the cooking daily right after I get in my first queue of the day (after logging into the inn in Dalaran). The usual stuff.
Terethall Jan 11th 2010 8:15PM
Spyder, you realize Warden is watching you like Ceiling Cat, right?
Grenthal Jan 11th 2010 8:07AM
When I first log on with my DPS I put myself straight in the queue. Obviously this means at least a 10-15 minute wait, but then I make my way to the Argent Tournament and get to work on my dailies there. It's a great way to earn a few gold and there's pretty much zero chance of finishing them all before I finally get into a dungeon :)
Anathemys Jan 11th 2010 5:48PM
I do the same, except for the fact that the Join Group box always pops during one of the jousting, after which I forget the last 20 times this has happened and click the "Join" button actually expecting to be ported to the dungeon. "Ha ha", I say to myself, then unmount the jousting horsie and click "Join" again.
jealousiprate Jan 11th 2010 8:07AM
As a healer, I generally don't have time to do anything in the LFG queue. Maybe take a sip of coffee, then I'm in the heroic chasing down a renegade chain-pulling tank.
Daz Jan 11th 2010 9:09AM
@jealousiprate
We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. As long as you've got at least 50% mana, I ain't stopping :)
rainny Jan 11th 2010 10:28AM
I am guilty of slamming through an instance as fast as my raid gear can carry me.
On the other hand, I like to communicate. "I'm putting on a ton of threat gear, let me know if you want me to switch back to stam, heals." "Just slow me down if I'm going too fast or if you need mana."
And regardless of how fast I go, I always readycheck before every boss. Even the stupid ones. It only takes a second and I think its polite. (Anyways, I'm a pally tank, and I usually need that second to mana up haha)
