Breakfast Topic: What do you do while waiting for LFG to pop?

Matt Rossi: I have time to inhale a couple of times during the LFD queue.
Allison Robert: To amuse myself, I start counting, "One mississippi, two mississippi, three mississippi..." from releasing the mouse's left button on the Join Group option and the queue popping. However, I am likely to discontinue the practice, as my brain is having increasing difficulty remembering what comes directly after three. It starts with an F. I know it does.
Alex Ziebart: When I'm queueing on my DPS, I tab out and play a different game for 15-20 minutes. On my healer, I brace myself so I don't get whiplash zoning into a heroic so fast.
Eliah Hecht: I have about enough time to cross my fingers hoping it's not Old Kingdom again.
Robin Torres: I tend to my farm in Country Life.
Fox Van Allen: The LFD daily is the first thing I do when logging on for the day, so I usually do the cooking and fishing daily. Since I'm a DPS and usually have obnoxiously long waits, I get bored enough to toggle between windows, looking at the armory and WoW.com. By the time I tab back to the Warcraft window, I've just missed the ready check and have three angry guildies cursing at me for throwing us back to the end of the queue to wait for another tank.
Chase Christian: Two words: dual monitors. I am waiting in two DPS queues at once! Ideally the heroic takes less time than the DPS queue, and one of my toons sits in Dalaran while the other vanquishes monsters.
Matt Low: I usually blink once or twice before my queue pops up. Dunno about you guys.
Amanda Miller: I have about enough time to ponder whether or not I might be able to sprint to the kitchen for some water and back after clicking to queue. On my DPS, believe it or not, I quest. Usually you can get a good 30-45 minutes in, if not more.
Eliah Hecht: Damn, 30-45 min? And I thought my BG was bad at 15-ish.
Fox Van Allen: Now imagine waiting those 30-45 minutes, having the LFD spinner land on Culling of Stratholme, and having your tank disappear into the ether without saying a word cause he/she doesn't want to wait the five minutes for Arthas's speech to end...
Dominic Hobbs: Had a bloody bear leave group from Oculus today. Nothing unusual there but this sod waited till we were half way round the first lot of trash, pulled 3 groups then split. Tanks are the new divas.
Amanda Miller: I find that people drop like flies when they see that they have landed in Oculus, despite the fact that it has been nerfed and there are new rewards for finishing it.
Allison Robert: Tanks were always divas, and I say this having played one for close to three years now.
Matt Rossi: What else would keep us doing it?
Rossi wins the thread. So what about you, our reading public -- what do you do waiting for the Dungeon Finder to pop?

Not reading through all these pages of comments to see if anyone else has mentioned it, but you get a bonus quest rewarding an extra seal if you manage to kill the Kraken -- it loots a quest item automatically to everyone in your party that you turn in. You can, in fact, do the quest once and turn it in -- then do it again for another quest item to turn in the next day in the event Get Kraken is not a daily that day.

Zero, I did not know that - thank you very much! =)

I usually queue with a guild tank or healer and wait in Dalaran so I can sell/repair between dungeons because I tend not to do one every day and then hit a load in one night. Queue time is greatly reduced and you have some one to back you up should you find yourself in hot water.
macster Jan 11th 2010 8:12AM
I fish. I've gained 300-odd skill points since patch 3.3 dropped.

as a tank, I blink.
Now, when I've dropped out of a group, like the diva I am, (and I don't want to run Halls of Lightning, or whatever instance I 'm in for the third rime today) I do my cooking daily, and go read an online newspaper, and then as soon as the debuff wears off I jump back in the queue and blink again.

I have two 80 healers and a 73 DK tank. My healers usually can go as long as 2-3 minutes if it is a tank-short day, but even at 73 my little baby DK tank enjoys instant queues (I played on US-Steamwheedle Cartel). So my healers tend to just make sure they're repaired and topped off with reagents and drink. Sometimes I can't even pull that off.
I can say that as bad as it is being a healer though, it has nothing on being a tank in these crossrealm PUGs. I kind of understand why tanks are so rare in my battlegroup. People don't wait for you to pull, or you get DPS all each focus-firing a different target, or ignoring people frozen in ice in UK or webbed in AN. To have people humping damage meters and unwilling to do anything that might lower their score when it is to the detriment of the group can be frustrating at times.

Vote kick any dps that random pulls. I just tell them, don't do it, or I'll vote kick you. And say in party that if your vote kick fails, you'll quit the group. No dps or healer if vote against the wish of the tank because it'll mean a 15 min wait to find another tank.

i try to run from the IF bank to the reagent vendor or the armor repair shop..... usually don't make it that far though

What shoulda shamen Q as at low levels? As in under 30.
Terethall Jan 11th 2010 8:40AM
What you're specced/geared for. Elemental geared/specced shaman can get away with healing below 30 provided you know what you're doing.
Amalthea Jan 11th 2010 8:59AM
You can heal as elemental for sure, as far as level 60, and most likely up to 70, since the gear is so interchangeable throughout those levels. Plus you can toss some dps in there as well...
Hal Jan 11th 2010 10:26AM
I've healed as an under-30 enhancement shaman; you really don't have spec-specific abilities yet, and the talent points don't change anything dramatically at such low gear levels.
That being said, if you do it that way, it's not a bad idea to have some caster gear on hand. Otherwise, your tiny mana pool will make both you and the party very, very sad.

I tried out healing on my resto shaman and I was pleased with the results. I do DPS till it's coming out of my ears, and tried tanking on my pally, but I enjoyed healing because people are really grateful for a good healer.
Keliah is only level 16 or so, but I've done quite well on her so far.
Tankforhire Jan 11th 2010 8:14AM
As a Tank myself, I try to drag several dps guildies with me and then pray for Oculus. It's fun for me, and I love to watch my guildies squirm.
airdinn Jan 11th 2010 8:16AM
I think WWRD ( What Would Rossi Do) press the tab then go tanking.
Festis Jan 11th 2010 8:14AM
Wintergrasp. I find that I can make some decent money flying around grabbing any Titanium or Saronite I see, making stops to kill flowers for eternal life.
And lest a Hordie get in my way... Blood will be shed. Unless its the Mage who flies around on his magic carpet with his water elemental following him on the ground. I respect flyness, and that guy is way to cool to wtfpwn.
Egini Jan 11th 2010 8:15AM
I usually only have to wait at the max about 5 minutes since I am a Holy/Prot Paladin the only reason I get a wait time is that my Holy gear is better than my Prot gear so I que up as the Healer. Some of my friend ask me to que up with them since it takes so long for DPS to get a group.

On my druid tank it's amazingly fast, but on my shaman I tend to go do a bit of skinning and maybe the odd daily.
Suprisingly I haven't got Occ as a random yet, so the rewards must be working to some degree.
I just wish more people would stay and que up for another instance at the end rather than drop group and wait another 15 minutes.
Squelchy Jan 11th 2010 8:16AM
On my DPS, I tend to fly around mining. As a result, I have scads of useless saronite and eternal earth.
On my healer, I sure would like to do herbalism and find more frost lotuses, which I actually need. But there's rarely time.
