Breakfast Topic: What do you do while waiting for LFG to pop?

Matt Rossi: I have time to inhale a couple of times during the LFD queue.
Allison Robert: To amuse myself, I start counting, "One mississippi, two mississippi, three mississippi..." from releasing the mouse's left button on the Join Group option and the queue popping. However, I am likely to discontinue the practice, as my brain is having increasing difficulty remembering what comes directly after three. It starts with an F. I know it does.
Alex Ziebart: When I'm queueing on my DPS, I tab out and play a different game for 15-20 minutes. On my healer, I brace myself so I don't get whiplash zoning into a heroic so fast.
Eliah Hecht: I have about enough time to cross my fingers hoping it's not Old Kingdom again.
Robin Torres: I tend to my farm in Country Life.
Fox Van Allen: The LFD daily is the first thing I do when logging on for the day, so I usually do the cooking and fishing daily. Since I'm a DPS and usually have obnoxiously long waits, I get bored enough to toggle between windows, looking at the armory and WoW.com. By the time I tab back to the Warcraft window, I've just missed the ready check and have three angry guildies cursing at me for throwing us back to the end of the queue to wait for another tank.
Chase Christian: Two words: dual monitors. I am waiting in two DPS queues at once! Ideally the heroic takes less time than the DPS queue, and one of my toons sits in Dalaran while the other vanquishes monsters.
Matt Low: I usually blink once or twice before my queue pops up. Dunno about you guys.
Amanda Miller: I have about enough time to ponder whether or not I might be able to sprint to the kitchen for some water and back after clicking to queue. On my DPS, believe it or not, I quest. Usually you can get a good 30-45 minutes in, if not more.
Eliah Hecht: Damn, 30-45 min? And I thought my BG was bad at 15-ish.
Fox Van Allen: Now imagine waiting those 30-45 minutes, having the LFD spinner land on Culling of Stratholme, and having your tank disappear into the ether without saying a word cause he/she doesn't want to wait the five minutes for Arthas's speech to end...
Dominic Hobbs: Had a bloody bear leave group from Oculus today. Nothing unusual there but this sod waited till we were half way round the first lot of trash, pulled 3 groups then split. Tanks are the new divas.
Amanda Miller: I find that people drop like flies when they see that they have landed in Oculus, despite the fact that it has been nerfed and there are new rewards for finishing it.
Allison Robert: Tanks were always divas, and I say this having played one for close to three years now.
Matt Rossi: What else would keep us doing it?
Rossi wins the thread. So what about you, our reading public -- what do you do waiting for the Dungeon Finder to pop?

When I que with my pocket tank ^, 3-5 secs. When I que up as a healer, about the same wait.
When I que as dps on my priest or druid, 20-30 mins. I use that time to catch up on my mas...um, crocheting. Yea, that's it! Anyone need a blanket?
Sleutel Jan 11th 2010 6:56PM
@Cap:
It may be warm and white, but I don't want you covering me in it.
Ozzard Jan 11th 2010 8:32AM
If I'm queued as a tank, then I'm queued with guildies or people from a previous run where I've liked the group and taken on the tank role when the previous one quit. Queue time: essentially zero.
If I'm queued as a healer, I'll generally chat in-guild or in-party for the 1 (solo) to 10 (grouped) minutes it takes. I'm the GM of a social guild; what else would I do?
Jamie Jan 11th 2010 8:34AM
As a tank I think"oh crap I have a couple of seconds to vendor grey items" in Dalaran.
Then after I've vendored my items I curse that "one AFK dps who cost the team the only healer I'd seen in a while".
Bloody afk dps...

I have 2 accounts with a DK on the 2nd. So I party those 2, join the queue with DK as tank and instantly get in. I then leave the group with my DK and voila! Jumped to the front of the queue for the next tank available.
Ozzard Jan 11th 2010 8:43AM
It's you! You're the tank giving us all a bad name! ;-)
Mikah Jan 11th 2010 8:58AM
Mah..
It's not much different then asking guildie tanks to do the same. So many times I see in guild chat "any tank or alt tank wants to party with me for a sec so I can jump the lfg queue?".
Same thing again. Join the queue, get in the instance, tank leaves and bam, just get the next one available.
Oznak Jan 11th 2010 7:25PM
The only thing i've ever seen asked for in guild chat is for a tank to actually run the ENTIRE INSTANCE rather than skipping out three seconds in. The system you're proposing, and evidently using, is a display of jackassery of the first degree. You are a dps. I am a dps. Many of us are dps. Too many, in fact. So we must wait, and by refusing to wait, you force us to wait longer. Please, STOP dropping as a tank or convincing/condoning others to do so.

My wife is the healer and I am the tank. We have a contest to see who is right in guessing the amount of time it will take. 2 seconds? 3 seconds? maybe 4 on a slow day.
Jeff (Not that one ^ ) Jan 11th 2010 8:36AM
Vodka.
Keveline Jan 11th 2010 8:39AM
Not to gloat or anything, I feel for the DPS'ers, but I'm a tank so I don't wait :)
Bossy Jan 11th 2010 8:39AM
As a Holy I hardly can do the Dalaran cooking quest. Around 30 seconds before it pops up, even when I choose one or two particluar dungeons to do.
As a DPS I have around 10 minutes: doing the quests for reputations I still need.
I think it is better as a dps though, as you tend to do more about professions and little world quests in between. Yoy always need that extra money and it gives more opportunities to gathering.
I tend to play more with this change (even too much for my taste. Last night I did 4 heroics in a row because we had a good group and so we ran the 3 last heroic dungeons. But the 2H weapon still won't drop ...)
DPS leveling is the real big thing I guess; enough time to do the world quests and hop in for a dungeon every 30 minutes or so.
With the new Battleground gear coming I guess it will be 24/24 non stop play. BTW BG's still spawn every few seconds in my BG.
Rabenherz Jan 11th 2010 8:49AM
Usually, I'll do the remaining quests for the loremaster-achievement. Works out great :) (And since I'm a hunter, it takes roughly about 40min from searching to finding a group T_T)

So far my only 80 (yeah, I know) is a Priest so generally the queue takes a few seconds (believe it or not, though, once I signed up as "healer or dps" and actually got in as DPS. Only after 2 dungeons with me as heals had popped and disappeared due to AFK DPS or tank, though). During those seconds I tend to go "oh crap" and frantically scramble to buy/sell/repair/do something else I wanted to do before going in and forgot.
Despite the nerfs and new rewards, the other day I got Occ as a random and went through 3 tanks before we could get started. The one that finally stuck around had 51k health and a high gear score, but unfortunately also charged ahead without waiting for me OR the DPS, then insulted the DPS for being slow and said "U people suk, I hate u". Under any other circumstances, I would have vote kicked, but I preferred being stuck with this guy over being stuck in Oculus with no tank for another 15-20 minutes.
Also, not everyone appears to be informed about the new Oculus reward because 3 people (including the tank) left at the end without retrieving their bag of gems. I was mildly puzzled for a moment that the DPS who had opened the chest got something that we didn't get to roll on, then decided to try and see if I'd get one too. Genius, I know.
Raze Jan 11th 2010 8:42AM
Fish or continue questing on my shaman.
Dailies on my hunter, or I start stretching, doing push-ups, or a quick sketch or two if it looks like I'm in for a long wait.
Uri Jan 11th 2010 8:44AM
On both my dps toons I tend to either chat in /gchat or read websites or a book if I'm waiting for more then the usual 11 min's for a group to form.
If I'm sitting in dal I will look in on trade chat to see if anyone needs either of the profs my girls do.
Muse Jan 11th 2010 8:43AM
Annoy my guildies with bad poetry I make up on the spot.
My favourite tool of torment are haiku.
Cyrus Jan 11th 2010 8:44AM
On my rogue (I have four 80s, but he's the only one who can neither tank or heal), I do quests. He's my newest 80, and he's only about halfway through the quests of Sholazar Basin. And there's still all of Storm Peaks and at least half of Icecrown. When I finish all that, I don't know what I'll do. Fishing is boring. Dailies, maybe, but I can't think of anything he needs from dailies. (He's a scribe, so he doesn't need Hodir rep. I don't care about collecting mounts and stuff on him, so I don't need Champion's Seals. And so on.)
PvP, probably. Or just play him less.
Daz Jan 11th 2010 10:49AM
Here is my only gripe with the Dungeon Finder (and it's a very minor one) but you can't queue for a BG and dungeon at the same time.
Clint Jan 11th 2010 2:30PM
Scribe or not, noone needs Hodir anymore since the high end enchants are all now BoA!!!!!! Gawd i hate doing those quests. I put 2 toons to exalted before they did that.
