Upcoming Adjustments announced for Old Kingdom, Nexus, Culling of Stratholme

Old Kingdom will receive the most changes. Elder Nadox will spawn only one Ahn'Kahar Guardian and Jedoga Shadowseeker will ascend only once in their respective encounters. In addition, some static trash groups will be removed, while some roaming groups will have their paths altered. He stressed that these changes are not meant to make the dungeon easier, but rather to make it a slightly quicker run, more in line with other heroics. He also acknowledged that the dungeon finder made the daily quest associated with the dungeon somewhat complicated to obtain and turn in, and while the dev team would like to fix it, they still haven't found a satisfactory solution.
Later in the thread, he announced a similar change to Nexus, namely that Anomalus will use his Create Rift ability much less often. Finally, he revealed that a "quick start" option for the Culling of Stratholme is in the works, but will likely not be ready for the next minor patch due to the complicated scripting required.
All of these changes, I am sure, will cause great joy among the badge running crowd. I admit I never disliked the lore of the Culling of Stratholme instance, but after the first 10 times, you know, it loses some of the lustre. This also makes me wonder which dungeon is next. It seems like Halls of Stone is really the only dungeon left that still has a problem with people dropping group. I'm guessing we might see a reduction of the time to victory on the Tribunal of Ages event, and possibly a pruning of the trash before Krystallus and Maiden of Grief to give more incentive to grab them.
Regardless, there's no word on when these changes will be implemented, but all the same, they should be welcome. Stay tuned for any more news on this stealthily announced "minor patch" as we hear it.

What does this means for the respective Glory of the hero achievements?
Akhilesh Jan 12th 2010 1:38AM
they just became even easier

They will become a lot easier.

I'm finding myself getting more and more worried about them yanking the red proto-drake reward as the dungeons get nerfed and we get more geared. -.- I really need to get on finishing up the last 8 achievements I have to go.
Barinthos Jan 12th 2010 10:24AM
I would hope they don't take out the proto-drake for the achievement. It's not like they're really hard anymore. Everyone can be decked out in t9 in a little over a week(casual random grinds). I was able to get a handful of achievements with PuGs that I've never been able to get with a guild organized group, but I guess that was before the random blessed out WoW lives.

I'll say this for the Random Dungeon feature: It certainly puts all of the WotLK heroic instances under the microscope in a big way. While I don't want to see all dungeons totally homogenized, some of these changes have been needed for a while now.

indeed, i dont even think it was worth it. For nexus, yes it might take longer then DTK or something, but its 5 badges (+2), and can be done in around 15-25 mins (depending on group of course). 3-4 mins per badge, and VH? only 3 badges (+2) but still takes as long. However a 'skip' option for the CoS lore is a good idea

What pleases me is you can run everything. I have still never SET FOOT in Slave Pens because no one EVER wanted to run it on my server - they went straight to Underbog.

I don't know how easy this would be, but I think making the brazier that accepts the Watcher's corpse into the questgiving item would make sense.
freeway8989 Jan 12th 2010 2:09AM
Yeah, I don't get why the corpse you pick up at the beginning doesn't simply start the daily.
Dustmonkey Jan 12th 2010 5:42AM
@freeway8989
The corpse you loot does start the daily, you just have to go to the entrance of the dungeon to hand it in.
brian Jan 12th 2010 6:08AM
Start the daily as in "This item begins a quest." I'm pretty sure the timer is simply because of the item's decay rate.
Ricohardt Jan 12th 2010 6:10AM
Currently, the corpse you loot does not start the quest. You need to have the quest accepted from outside in order to complete it.
I agree, make the corpse an item that starts a quest, like those ooze covered fungi.
krizzlybear Jan 12th 2010 7:11AM
Turning the quest in at the brazier would also make things easier, as people are no longer zoning into the instance via portal, and would have to travel a long way to get to the NPC's hanging out outside the instance.
Chaos Jan 12th 2010 8:05AM
The reason they wouldn't make it so the corpse starts the quest, is because when you pick up the quest normally, it would start the timer, and if you died in between the corpse and the brazier, you would lose the quest, doing it your way would make it so you could pick up the quest, run through the dungeon not worrying about dying, then accept the quest when you make it to the brazier.
Thundrcrackr Jan 12th 2010 10:13AM
I don't see why they don't just put the quest giver inside the instance and make it turn-in at the brazier.
PodPeople Jan 12th 2010 2:47PM
Chaos,
It is already setup (and always has been) to where if you die and corpse run back, the item is no longer in your inventory. If you are rezed then you still have the item in your bags and can still complete the quest. They could easily make the item start the quest and still have it so that if your group wipes you still don't get to turn in the quest.
The brazier being the turn-in is also a good change. Or as Thundrcrackr suggests, putting an NPC inside would work too, they could put one at the front and one at the end.
Dustmonkey Jan 14th 2010 3:33AM
Hm, when I ran the instance (the day I typed in my comment), after I picked up the corpse and put it in the brazier, all that I needed to do was go to the daily quest givers and then the quest was completed ... maybe I already had the quest in my log?
Kbell Jan 12th 2010 1:43AM
I was getting slightly worried that they might make the Glory of the Hero achievement go away like old drakes for a sec.
Hoggersbud Jan 12th 2010 1:47AM
Ah good, I knew they could fix Stratholme if only in time.
