Armory gets updated with a model viewer

The World of Warcraft armory page has just been updated with new features and tools!
As stated on their updates page:
Every character profile now has a 3D model viewer that displays the character in his or her currently equipped gear, and accurately displays the character's physical features, hairstyle, and helm/cloak display as they appear in-game. Mousing over the character model window brings up a control panel with the following controls
As stated on their updates page:
Every character profile now has a 3D model viewer that displays the character in his or her currently equipped gear, and accurately displays the character's physical features, hairstyle, and helm/cloak display as they appear in-game. Mousing over the character model window brings up a control panel with the following controls
- Camera controls: To rotate the camera around a character, click and hold the left mouse button while moving the mouse left and right, or click the arrow buttons in the top left of the window. To zoom in and out, use the mouse wheel while hovering over the character window, or click the zoom buttons in the top left of the window. To move the character within the frame, right-click and drag the character in the window (or on the small square in the bottom left corner of the window).
- Animations: Each character has a selection of animations that they can perform. Use the arrows next to the animation's name to cycle through them. The available animations are determined by the character's class and currently equipped weapons.
- Capture pose: If you are logged in, you can set the default pose of any character on your account. Use the camera and animation controls to create a pose, then click the save icon to set it as the default. All visitors to the character's profile will then see the character in that pose.
- Play controls: The rewind, pause, and fast forward buttons allow you to fine-tune a pose for a character.
- Fullscreen mode: You can view the character in a fullscreen display against a selection of backgrounds. All controls will continue to function in fullscreen mode.
- Embed: You can embed a standalone, interactive version of the character's model viewer in a compatible website, such as a social networking site, guild website, or forum.
- Options: Extra options include selecting a background in fullscreen mode and toggling the display of a character's helm, cloak, or tabard.

This is a great new addition to the website!

Nascair, you may want to give it a week or so...before playing around with the new poses and stuff. Everyone one and their dog is trying to hit up the Armory to see the new features...which is likely causing a huge load bearing on the site. Hense, freezing and maintenance windows galore.

Nice.

Wow, for once the Armory might actually be ahead of sites like Wowhead. I'll have to check it out to be sure, but this sounds incredible!

wowhead profiler has been out for a while now...
give it a shot: http://www.wowhead.com/?profiles

I know about the profiler, and it is better in many ways than the armory. I was saying that the new 3d model viewer is actually better than the viewer on the Wowhead profiler because the Wowhead one does not show character customization or animations.

Yeah, I'm having some issues with it myself right now.
Searching my profile on Chrome turns up a blank. Like no results, nothing. No idea what.
Using Firefox, I can pull up my character and stuff. When i mouse over the items, I can see set bonuses, sockets, all the various attributes. But I can't see the actual name of the item.
Having loads of fun with the pose thingy at least.
I've spoken with some people and they said they haven't had issues with it. Probably just crap on my end.

I'm on Chrome and have had no problems yet.
Using the 4.0 beta here.

You might want to look a little deeper.
Under "Activity" it shows everything you have gotten.

Aion Armory has been doing this for a while... It seems Blizz is staying a step behind others in alot of these little features. The way you queue for BG's now for instance, WH had that one. Not bashing Blizz, just pointing it out.

I remember when everyone was saying WoW rips off Warhammer Online, now it's "WoW rips off Aion"?
Squirr3llywrath9 Jan 14th 2010 1:49AM
It doesn't really matter who did it first. People aren't going to look in a history book and see that Aion did it first because it doesn't matter. If it is a good idea, then it will be modified and put into WoW. If it sucks, it'll be left on the curb. I could care less who thought of it first, but it goes to show they are putting more effort into the actual game than it's additional features. Something apparently the makers of WAR and Aion seemed to overlook.
Arkhell Jan 14th 2010 8:02AM
like hackers and bots for instance they seem to overlook that a lot in Aion

Blizzard has never been the most original developers, but they are the most consistant perfectors( yeah i know not a word).
Polishing other ideas is kinda their thing.
Aedilhild Jan 14th 2010 10:31AM
"Perfectionists," because I'm one, too.
Agony Jan 14th 2010 2:01PM
If you do a little look-around here on WoW.com and other sites, you'll find that Blizzard has had this in the works for some time (before Aion was even available yet), but had put it on hold for...well, you know, piddly insignificant crap like fixing nerdrage issues, releasing important patches, releasing Wrath of the Lich King...

SIMPSONS DID IT!
