The Spousal Unit came home from work the other day to find
Overlord Mok'Morokk hanging out in Orgrimmar. He joined the fray for a couple minutes and then started the night's raiding schedule. Hours later, he found the ogre from Dustwallow Marsh still there. Though the battle had been kept up the entire time, the Overlord just couldn't be brought down. All of the bank alts in the AH were subjected to periodic AOE stuns and the constant sounds of battle while trying to conduct business.
Of course,
this isn't the first time someone has been kited into a major city for the sake of mayhem. Players have been doing this since the beginning of MMO time. It can be annoying but also breaks up the monotony of the atmosphere. Some, however, view it only as griefing.
What is the most unusual NPC or creature that you've seen kited to a major city? Do you think this kind of activity is fun or annoying? Have you ever had the patience to kite something this far yourself?
Edited to add: Link to a reunion of Jaina and Thrall.

I have a 100g challenge to my fellow guildies.
Get Hogger to the SW AH
Verit Jan 14th 2010 11:31AM
That would be easy, but hogger only has like 900 hp.
Tuscansalami Jan 14th 2010 12:01PM
Actually, it's because Hogger only has 900hp that makes it so difficult - you have to limit how much damage you do to him to an absolute minimum, and somehow smuggle him past all the guards which would 1-hit KO him on the way inside SW.
Trying to kite Hogger off on a tour of the continent for pure distance with those same limitations however, would pose an interesting challenge, given the limitation of most spells/abilities that would otherwise cause damage and kill him outright.
For a more extreme test of skill, see how far you can kite Gamon in org! Lots more guards to dodge, players that might decide to one-shot him, and an even lower health pool to deal with...

Actually, Gamon was fixed not to long ago so he cant go more than 20 yds from his spawn point. The reason why was priests would mind control him when he had his ability that would dismount people, and they would run around all of Org dismounting people.
When Blizz removed that spell from him, they also made it so he cant go to far. I have gotten on a lvl 12 mage in order to see how far I can kite him, and only made it about 20 yds before he stopped and turned around. Same thing if you try to MC him, or use 2 priests to MC. Once he gets to a certain point, he breaks the "cc" and does a U turn.
My favorite was back when Adal in Shat could be killed, Doomwalker or a Fel Reaver (cant remember, want to say it was Doomwalker b.c NO one could get near him and Shat became a ghost town) but anyways, the top guild got thier BT raid ID ninja'd by a guild member who turned out to be a "reroll" from the top Alliance guild, who was in the race for the server first Illidan kill. Since they were angry about what happened, they kited the boss to shat, and left him standing next to Adal. Needless to say, ALL the NPC's died, Shat couldnt be entered, and it took a hard server reset from a GM to reset it all, at which it was hot fixed on all servers that Doomwalker cant be kited very far, and Adal cant be killed.
I also liked watching the old videos that had Kazzack getting kited to SW and killing everyone and everything until a GM would despawn him.
I miss those days where you could do this cool stuff! Sure it gets annoying sometimes, but like Robin said, it livens up the monotony of the city.

I've seen a warlock kite gamon to Winterspring. In fact it's on youtube somewhere. Warlocks have a curse that agros but doesn't damage, so really the hardest part of kiting with it is just making it out of the capital before someone kills Gamon
Ratskinmahoney Jan 14th 2010 9:09PM
Curse of Elements kiting, or even better, Curse of Doom, as it generates more threat, just remember to overwrite it before it ticks.
BTW, tuscansalami, is your name a Goon Show reference? If it is you have made me a very happy man.

Hogger was kited to Undercity. There's a video somewhere on warcraftmovies.
ROB13 Jan 14th 2010 8:05AM
Anachronos is the popular one. Nothing like a big bronze dragon to take your rage on Chromie out on.
fanficbug Jan 14th 2010 10:01AM
But I like Chromie! :o

Saw a pally solo-kite Fel Reaver to Shattrath City once. It was awesome. Somehow died when he fell off the bridge leading into the center of the city. lol
Banndit Jan 14th 2010 8:08AM
oh, this is back in BC btw.
RobynM Jan 14th 2010 8:44AM
I have a couple characters who have their Shattered Halls key from Fel Reavers that'd been kited to Shat. Nothing like being in the right place at the right time.
asdfghjkloo Jan 14th 2010 3:16PM
Not too long ago, I kited a Fel Reaver into Thrallmar on my 80 resto druid backing up as I limbed him. It made it all the better after I convinced a few 60s to help me kill him because I did not have the damage to as a tree. Once they started attacking, I turned around and ran making the Fel Reaver drop aggro from me and kill 3 of them before he ran back what he was doing. I laughed so hard, I started tearing up.

I once tried to kite a devilsaur to auberdine (me being horde)onto one of the boats there(even though it won't load on the other side... or will it??) Unfortunately the damn thing bugged out and got stuck in northern feralas.
ZMES_Matt Jan 14th 2010 8:39AM
All NPC stop at the dock, never getting on the boat. Had you succeeded you'd have been sorely disappointed. :P

I've seen Omen kited to Orgrimmar on my server a few times during the Lunar Festival.
Nick Jan 14th 2010 8:25AM
A hunter in my guild seemed to do this every time the festival came around back in vanilla wow
heath Jan 14th 2010 8:50AM
doing the same to Eranikus would be epic.
Keveline Jan 14th 2010 8:11AM
My server must be boring, but I've never seen anything kited into a major city. I guess I might be boring too, because I definitely don't have the patience to do it myself.
I'd say it falls under fun, not griefing. At least as long as it isn't happening 2 or 3 times a night.

I remember when I first started playing I had a friend tell me how a giant dragon attacked a city he was in. I assumed it was a server event and it helped get me excited about the game. Obviously that was not the case, but I too think it's great when it happens. As long as it's not too easy to do they should allow kiting for that once in a while thrill.
