To Terethall:"Furthermore, this article mentions auto-attacking a ton. Are you suggesting casters start fights by auto-attacking (not all casters even have wands)?"Absolutely. In a PuG I poke all the mobs on the first pull with an auto-attack or even a fully down ranked spell and watch for a bit. I'll have threat info up on all of them and see the tank's TPS on everything. That sets the baseline: I now know what I can and can not do as DPS. DPS on the first 5 man pull won't matter so nothing is lost. I also whisper the tank and ask "AoE or not?" If the tank runs ahead pulling multiple groups, I watch her health instead: if the healer is keeping up, I'm probably good (though the healer may be pissed).Responsible DPS isn't hard. It's OUR job. If you need to drop stuff from the rotation or skip procs, sure, not using pyro or chaos bolt or maelstrom sucks, but it beats getting back in the queue as DPS and hoping for better. All I ask of tanks (and healers, to a lesser extent) is please be honest. Say I've never done this before or I'm not quite geared yet. I'll stick around and help. DPS needs you nifty masochis...er...tanks. We love you for it! If you're not up to the content and then blame me, screw off. I'm not going to auto-attack a run AND get a 50g repair bill AND get yelled at.
