I shelled out about 40k for my Insane title, over a course of around 3 months, working on it nightly after guild raids. And yes, it's a feat of strength, not an achievement. But all those reputations will help to go to your 40 exalted reputations title.
But just because I spent 40k does not mean I LOST 40k. A lot of gold that I originally thought was going to be a write-off, I made back. Perfect example: The Darkmoon decks. Yes, I knew no inscriptionists, and bought all my decks (anywhere from 25-400g each), yet when I turned them in, I was able to take the rewards for the turn-ins (ex: Darkmoon Card: Madness or Darkmoon Card:Heroism) and put them right back in the AH and make all my money back.
