I didn't read all the guides, but if it doesn't say something about Seal of Command its wrong. With the new seal of command, you can basically pick up a nice hghend DPS weapon and cleave your way to 80. We SoComm tank trash all the time in heroics and raids, it is simply faster than waiting on 5 stacks of vengance, and you don't get that at low levels. So for a low pally, get SoComm asap! And then get down that prot tree!

Picking up SoComm also means you'll get Holy Shield, Avenger's Shield, Reckoning and all other important tank talents 11 levels later. Not worth it.

I think the speed increase from PoJ is well worth it to go for first. Movement speed increased adds up over 80 levels. So for me its 13 points, but I'd still take it. If your looking for speed in leveling that is.

I'm going to be subtle here...------------------------------------------ RETRIBUTION IS BETTER FOR LOW LEVEL TANKING!------------------------------------------(note: you still tank with a shield and 1hander, don't be that guy who thinks he can tank SM Cathedral with an heirloom arcanite reaper)Protection becomes viable only when you get Spiritual Attunement (healing->mana), BoS and Holy Shield. And that happens somewhere around level 45. Before that, protection will go oom every other pull. I'm leveling two alts through 20-60 instances right now and I see it all the time: pull -> pull -> MB, repeat.Retribution on the other hand has (at a very low level): - Seal of Command, which is a free, 3 target cleave that deals holy damage (threat!). - Glyph of Seal of Command gives you 8% total mana (base and total mana are the same for Ret, don't gear for int) at every Judgement - Improved Judgements - more judgements = more mana (see above) - Benediction reduces mana cost for almost every tanking ability you'll be using by 10% - upgraded Retribution Aura damage - YES! YOU SHOULD BE USING RET AURA WHILE TANKING! Free, reflective holy damage that generates threat? Yes please, MOAR! Even level 80 tanks don't understand this and insist on using Devotion Aura all the time, even on trash- Best of all... you can switch back to your trusted 2H weapon while not tanking and do some questing, without being gimped by your tanking spec

The thing with tanks using Devotion Aura, is that since it's in the Protection tree, they think they should use it. And it makes sense. Why would you use a retribution talent when you're tanking, not DPSing? But at lower levels, when you don't have all your skills yet, I'm sure Ret Aura is good. But at higher levels, I would think Devotion Aura would be better. But I don't have a pally (yet) so I wouldn't know.

Well it is OK to actually change your aura based on what you are doing. Boss fights with no adds Devo is prolly better than ret, even improved. Armor isn't that great against magic, we all know that, so if its loads of frost, or fire damage...then switch it!But yeah, Tolkfan basically said what I was trying to say. Prot talents are fun, but you need lots of points to make them work. And just because you have all your points in ret, don't be afraid to get behind a shield.
