I read a couple comments about having the bosses attack the major cities and everyone joining in the fun. That sounds like such a fun idea. I used to play a MUD and there was a very similar mechanic where we would take a couple groups into a dragon lair and start a fight with it. After we made it mad enough, it would then force the dragon out, where it flew to the closest town and started wreaking havoc. Anyone who wanted to join in at that point was welcome to help down the dragon before it destroyed the town.
It was a lot of fun to do, even as a noob getting killed so fast that I didn't even have time to realize what was going on until I reached the graveyard, just because I'd wandered into the wrong place at the wrong time. I'd like to think that any noobs that got wtf-punched wouldn't /gamequit, but would rather level asap so that when they hit the level cap, they could have a chance to participate in the defense of their city against the big boss.
