Warlocks to get a new pet in Cataclysm?

While it's not a direct confirmation that warlocks will be getting a new pet in Cataclysm, I think it's safe to read into this and maybe get a bit excited about this one. I doubt they'd mention warlocks getting "new spells" in relation to getting a new demon if such an addition to the warlock class wasn't planned.Q. With the new skins for druid forms, what is the chance that warlocks might see race/faction specific demon skins or maybe a new one?
A. When you look around, there are a lot of say imp or voidwalkers we could use. It's something we talk about quite a bit. As for new demons, I hear warlocks are going to be getting some new spells for the next expansion...
So, new demons for warlocks? Probably. My guess is that it'll be a pet lava monster or something related to the elemental plane. Just the perfect kind of thing to pop up into the evil hands of warlocks from the sundered land in Cataclysm.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes, it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment.

Broken comment system is broken. Use parenthesis, curly or standard brackets instead of the angle brackets.
Apparently the comment system thinks it's malicious code or something.

Give me a felguard pet that I can use dropped equipment loot on like Diablo. :P
ScytheRexx Jan 16th 2010 11:33AM
I admit, I hope they don't add more demon pets. We already have two pets that are so niche I rarely see them anymore, that being the voidwalker and succubus. I might see the succubus in Battelgrounds, but even that is rare these days it seems. (I don't arena, so no idea in that area, maybe used even more).
What I would like them to do is take the Infernal and make him an uncontrollable wrecking ball that you can summon without losing your personal demon.

Hmm flying demon mount.
Sihylm Jan 16th 2010 11:43AM
I'd like companions to be able to use loot, as someone above said, in a similar style to diablo. Obviously not a fully kitted out set of gear, but maybe two slots per pet? With one being bracers, since it seems to be a theme with enslaved demons. And have them actually show on the model.
Weapon and bracers for Felguard
Bracers and Shoulders for the Void Walker
Ring and Bracers for the Succubus
Neck-piece and bracers for the Imp
And I guess it would have to be ring and bracers again for the Felguard (like the loops on their dreads)
Make it so they can only equip BoEs to stop warlocks taking warrior weapons from dungeons.

I actually like this idea, especially for the Fel Guard, he's cool with his Arcanite Reaper, but it would be equally cool to see some running around with an Armageddon or an Appolyon.
oowxam Jan 16th 2010 2:19PM
Wow... That's actually a pretty cool idea. Doubtful, but would be pretty interesting.

Shoopityshuppet:
At Blizzcon, they actually said they wanted to do more class-specific quests, because even though they take longer to develop, the players really, really enjoy them. They also said that they can be used more effectively to teach players more about how to play their class, and how to properly use their abilities.
When you consider the fact that Blizzard wants to remove the need to purchase individual skill ranks, and instead just have the skills scale with your level... They're going to need to find a way to replace that "go back to town every other level to get new skills" buzz. I'm thinking more class-specific quests will a good way to do that.

Ok, here's my ideas for the new demons.
Satyr: Physical ranged dps with a slight attunement to shadow or fire arrow enhancement spells.
Dreadlord: Highly attuned to shadow magic, the Dreadlord throws affliction DoTs on the enemy.
Shivarra: Fast paced physical mele dps made more for taking out enemies who are lacking in the armor area.
Beholder: Made almost entirely for utility, this pet will buff raid members and/or debuff enemies. He also does a lightning (nature) ranged attack.
Gan'arg: Creates a stationary tactical weapon that can be used for a limited amount of time unless it is destroyed. Maybe even some kind of mobile suit like the abomination on Professor Putricide?
Note: these are all made to have situational utilities so as not to bind the warlock to that pet when the warlock specs.
On another note, it would be awesome to add different looks to your pets.
Infernal=Abyssal=Supremus
Felguard wielding Hailstorm
Imp wielding Nibelung
Voidwalker with mantle of corruptor (lock t5 shoulders) (or even changing the color of your blueberry)
Or, if possible, The Cathedral of Shadows: This building is used for the fusing and sacrificing demons.

Personally, they should at least let us choose between demons skins. Or perhaps glyphs (like a glyph that turns the Succubus into a Shivarra or something)
Oh, and a Summon Incubus spell to go with Summon Succubus, both of them available to all warlocks
Fletcher Jan 16th 2010 7:18PM
Warlocks? Bah. You foul demon-consorting fools will already be the downfall of Azeroth, you don't need any more help at it. Where a pet is needed is the Paladin class! No, no, hear me out -
Summon Naaru. :D
With that said, I do like the idea of a warlock flying mount. Perhaps take the bat model and reskin it to be all black and red and fiery. Heck, specific flying mounts for all classes! The paladin one I don't know, it'd probably be a gryphon, and those things are ugly. (Coming soon in Cataclysm, for your WTF amusement; beefadins on Chargers. Yeah. Actually, this should probably be race-specific, although I can't say I'd use a paladin Elekk any more than I use my Charger)
The warrior one ... okay, warriors miss out. There's too much thematic variation between races.
Mages should be able to fly under their own power, just levitate about.
Yeah, I can't think of any others right now.
Smoe Jan 16th 2010 10:41PM
DK's could get frostwyrms like they do in their starter quests.
Hunter's could ... train a pet to fly?
Pallies would get a pegasis (could also be a war or hunter mount).
Shamen ... a wyvern (could be the hunter mount too)? Either that or a Voodoo Gnome with a rocket pack.
Priests would get a ... holy air ship? (i dunno ... i watch too much anime)
jakel Jan 16th 2010 10:43PM
oooh. Magi could fly on bolts of ice or fire or arcane (like a comet w/the tail and such) but like...flaming, frozen or purple.)
Priests would fly under their own power because they levitate...or maybe they could fly on angels...wouldn't the light love that?
Rogues would need something stealthy...the problem, I guess is that there aren't really a lot of flying beasts out in the world, y'know? Moths? Maybe a shadow beasty.
and then Paladins could have a light beasty. A PEGASUS! oooh! i just got goosebumps. Then it could look like your chargers but way pretty.
Hunters could just tame their own flying creature. and Shamans could have wind beasts. or even just elementals or whatever...i don't know, i don't shaman. Remember: no bad ideas in brainstorming.

I'm sure I saw a large, blocky-looking beast with a ring like a yoke around its neck standing behind a goblin warlock.
My first thought was, "So Warlocks get golems in Cataclysm?"
Rathmorne Jan 17th 2010 10:18AM
"As for new demons, I hear warlocks are going to be getting some new spells for the next expansion..."
This is Blizzard's way of saying "We're still working on the Shard System, we intend to let you have some of the choices affect your demons as well, such as increased power for a brief period of time. We have given some thought to adding new demons for Warlocks, but we probably won't be getting any around by Cataclysm."
Blizzard doesn't exactly put Warlocks on the top of their "OMG WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH LETS GIVE THEM EVERYTHING THEY WANT" list. When they give us stuff we either hate them for the nerf, or thank them for remembering that Warlocks are a class in WoW.
ScorchHellfire Jan 17th 2010 2:58AM
I hope they make the infernal a guardian style (as in you don't directly control it) pet on a shorter cooldown and make the doomguard a permanent pet (but still be hard to get out)...
I personally wouldn't be surprised if the new pet is just the flying mount they said was a possibility and if not that then here's hoping for a healer pet... and customization options... and pet talents...
