I figured this one too, took me all of five seconds to come up with the idea, too.

Crystalsong has a floaty, glowing Dalaran in it so it looks pretty, but the real Dalaran with all the players in it is actually a separate zone... loading screen and all.

Loading screen interrupting you're immersion in the game? Just have Dal being surrounded by those purple shimmering shields that the Kirin Tor seem to like so much - the loading screen represents the passing through the shield. The shield might also explain why Sindragosa hasn't turned the place into an icecube yet...

Of course, the fact that this took me five seconds to come up with makes me think that it's stupid and would never work...
