Bornakk popped onto the forums late Thursday to
confirm that Blizzard is planning to add a +strength version to the Ashen Verdict rings in an upcoming mini-patch. The appearance of the four current rings with patch 3.3 caused
a minor furor on the forums, with
plate DPS being left out in the cold. While there are +strength DPS rings available elsewhere in Icecrown Citadel, there's no replacement for a reputation ring's valuable proc.
One of the interesting things about the +strength ring's initial absence wasn't its absence
per se, but
the reason for omitting it. Apparently the Ashen Verdict choices were a reproduction of older reputation-linked quest items (e.g.
Violet Eye and
Scale of the Sands rings) that allowed only four choices, and Blizzard
wasn't able to get past the programming issues to add a fifth option before 3.3 went live. Well, that's going to get fixed in the upcoming mini-patch, which will also see
a few other class-related changes. The date of the patch is still anyone's guess, but we'll keep an eye out for you.

My prediction:
"Whaaaa! I don't want to pay 200g to swap to the +STR ring! Give it to me for free!"

Eh, in some way I'm going to say that.
Here's the thing though. We shouldn't have to pay the 200g in order to grab a ring they just added in. What they should do, is reset the quest for everyone, letting them rechoose their initial rings, then they can turn in the rep quests to update it. Might annoy people who aren't changing them, but I see this idea more fair than just throwing it in there without letting anyone really know, and only find out after they are told about it.
Now then, I also want to see some stats for the ring as well. I actually like the bit of hit rating on the current melee dps ring, and while the proc isn't much, its still nice. If it becomes something like the Scryer version of the Shattered hand necklace, that just makes you do with a chance on hit, I'm keeping the current dps necklace. Hell, the reason I had that epic necklace til I hit 80 (and some time into raiding), was because of the Aldor proc and how much it procced for me.

This means we're gonna get a tanking Kirin Tor ring, right?
Chris M Jan 18th 2010 2:08PM
So, plate dps cries enough and they get a strength ring; tanks cry enough and they get... no Quel'delar. Yeah. The power of blizzard forum tears is awesome.
andy Jan 18th 2010 2:17PM
theres a diffrence here blizzard always said that Quel'delar would be dps only.
blizzard meant for there to be a +STR ring but couldn't implement it at the time
Chris M Jan 18th 2010 2:41PM
Apart from the healer mace, beartank mace and the DK tank weapon- yeah, you're right.
They just went out of their way to screw over sword and board tanks which I shouldn't complain about since I've already got a solid weapon.
Thorzon Jan 18th 2010 2:42PM
Don't Forget, tanks don't get a Kirin Tor ring either.
@andy:
Quel'Delar is not dps only, healers got thier own version too. [Hammer of Purified Flame]
andy Jan 18th 2010 3:30PM
sorry i forgot about the healer stuff,
anyway i meant blizz never intended for there to be a tank version of the weapon,
the reason theres a dk tank one is because dks tank with dps 2 handers and
Chris M Jan 18th 2010 4:16PM
Right. So out of coincidence- two tanking specs are left out of the itemization. The reason why is pretty irrelevant. I'm not trying to create a flame war, just a little miffed at how everyone but the sword and board tanks gets a fancy weapon.
A1CYancy Jan 18th 2010 2:11PM
*tears of joy*
*Cough cough need bear tank ring cough*
ravyynn Jan 18th 2010 2:14PM
I just hope that we don't have to pay to swap it out but then knowing blizz...well I won't hold my breath.
Firedcylinder Jan 18th 2010 2:15PM
Why don't they make a second quest only available to warriors/paladins/dks that allows them to trade one of the other rings for the strength ring? I realize it's just a bandaid fix, but it gets them around the programming issue they talk about, and all the plate dps gets their ring.
Barinthos Jan 18th 2010 2:23PM
It took them this long to add a single ring to a vendor. And you want them to add a whole new quest that allows item trades?
Djinn Jan 19th 2010 10:30AM
Ben your lumping together of groups is very funny. You lump healers into a group that likes spirit? Druids and Priests being 1/2 of the total healing classes in the game value those stats. To the other two they are useless. Spirit couldn't matter less to a shaman or pally if they took it out of the game. So you are the one that needs perspective and knowledge before you run your mouth.
Lukara Jan 18th 2010 2:25PM
Aw, poor plate DPS specs. What _would_ they do w/o another piece of gear? They are already _so_ neglected as a spec that Blizz had no choice but to patch in a ring for them.
A1CYancy Jan 18th 2010 2:32PM
Wow....
Lets neglect spell power rings next rep based rings and see how far that goes....
ben Jan 18th 2010 4:21PM
Lets see... Hunters would get pissed with agil ring
mages pissed without SP and crit
healers pissed without SP/spir/int
and how could we forget tanks pissed without defense/block/parry.
get some perspective please.
