Scheduled maintenance for this Tuesday

There will be realm maintenance for all US realms this Tuesday, January 19th, from 3:00 a.m. PST / 6:00 a.m. EST until 11:00 a.m. PST / 2:00 p.m. EST.
We have been hearing for awhile now about a mini patch that's going to bring some small yet noticeable changes to the game, and there's no indication this downtime will bring that mini patch -- although we don't know officially one way or another. There have been a few stability issues reported this past week, so we're sure that many folks will be looking forward to having the maintenance hopefully fix these things up.
We'll let you know if we hear the maintenance is going to be extended -- but other than that, enjoy the downtime. I hear the Star Trek Online beta is a good way to pass the downtime.

My guess would be the patch will come next week with a new arena season and a new VoA boss
Mikhail Jan 18th 2010 11:06AM
They have stated that the VoA boss and Next Season won't come out for close to a full week AFTER this season ends. This season is set to end circa tomorrow. (they had given notice that the 19th will be the last day of it).
Im guessing this mini patch will be the next wing of ICC and a lot of clean up on the part of some of the ninja hot-fixes and stability issues they've reported on.

Hence I said "next week." As in a full week after the arena season ends, which is tomorrow. There could be a patch tomorrow too. Was there a patch when the last wing of ICC opened? I don't remember there being one

Isn't this week supposed to open The Crimson Halls in Icecrown, as well?
Jamie Jan 18th 2010 9:54AM
Yep.

Test at Sea fix? Pretty please?

"small but noticeable changes"?
like something stronger than earthquakes, maybe?

This was my thought as well.

Hopefully that mini patch will fix the latency and frame rate that 3.3 brought about...geez, my game was working fine till the latest patch and then it took a nose dive. Not crazy about Blizzard reading "it must be something else" on the forums...no, its not "something else" - its the patch!!! Please listen to your costumers or you will lose us. Hows about that being "something else" ?
Argh...I just wish Blizz would test the patches BEFORE release...I'd love to play the game, but not when I notice considerable game play before and after a patch. :( (and yes, I've done all the tips and tricks from Blizz on the forum suggested and still no relief. And if MANY people are complaining about the same issue regardless of the specs of their PCU, Blizz needs to listen. SOOOO not happy)

Actually, the Star Trek Online 'Open' Beta isn't really Open to everyone - you have to have a beta key which you can get either by pre-ordering STO (might be too late for that now) or else hoping you were sent one when you registered on the site (probably too late for that also).
But I WILL agree that Star Trek Online is quite a fun way to pass the time!
Link Death Jan 18th 2010 10:05AM
Not true, actually. I haven't pre-ordered anything. I just signed up on their website and got a beta key. The beta is open now.

I'm thinking about getting it for my Uncle. He's a huge Trekkie, and he's really into the original series. He's also a widower and I think he's retired (so he's got little else going on), and has no previous MMO experience. So, the question is, should I get it for him, or wait a few months to see how it is or just let it go by?
Drakkenfyre Jan 18th 2010 10:29AM
I think that's bullshit. You have to get a key, and most of the places that still have keys left require you to pay for a "premium" version of their site to get one.
Link, they don't give out keys to everyone. They say on the site you might get a key for signing up. I signed up a long time ago, and I haven't gotten a key yet.

The Star Trek Online beta *is* a good way to pass the time (as long as the servers are running). I just wish there were a little more variety in the mission types. Violence always being the answer in Azeroth is one thing, but I think there should be more diplomacy and non-violent resolutions to things in the Federation, don't you?

It's Champion's Online with a star trek reskin and space combat, what did you expect?
Link Death Jan 18th 2010 10:33AM
Well, having never played Champions Online, I had no expectations, honestly. :)
SpaceGoatPriest Jan 18th 2010 10:35AM
I have been testing ST:Online, and so far it's kinda meh. The space combat is cool, but the ground combat leaves a lot to be desired. Part of it might be lag, but I am not sold yet on it (and I am pretty big Trek fan). I am really torn on buying it. I think the game has a ton of potential, but I don't know about Cryptic. I have not heard the best comments about them.
Now if Blizzard was making the game.......

I have been trying to log onto STO all weekend and have recieved the dreaded " All servers are busy, Please try again Later" screen. I actually started leveling another char in wow because of the inability to play STO .
Kz Jan 18th 2010 11:57AM
STO is awful. I tried the beta. I had hope. After 2 days I went and got my $5 pre-order back from Game Stop. I had mistakenly thought that STO might be an improved EVE, but believe me, STO can't hold a candle to EVE or WoW. Don't waste your time on STO.
Superthrust Jan 18th 2010 1:25PM
MY DEAR CAPTAIN KIRK, THIS....
KZ's comment is TOO TRUE...i wanted to shoot myself after playing it. the controls are horrible and the gameplay blows. I seriously started wow on my other computer while playing this....then just uninstalled it.
