Here's the thing and people never see to get this:Polycount is almost entirely irrelevant. Pushing polygons is not a terribly difficult affair and, in fact, is one of the cheapest things you can actually DO on hardware. I was doing high poly transforms on a Geforce FX 5200, arguably one of the worst consumer cards that was available at the time. The real issue comes down to inefficient rendering, shaders (which WoW still relies heavily on the CPU for, the mind boggles) inefficient netcode and texturing.

Wrong. The limit is on the data swaps from and to the local video cards in MMO's.These channels are way too small to handle the data needed from and to the CPU and graphic cards. The hard disk drive speeds that hardly changed over 10 years....Ask yourself why those extremely long waiting times appear in all those console (and even PC) games "loading graphics screens".In FACT: WOW is one of the BEST background loading graphics screen games on the market. You can fly ALL over Northrend and Outland without EVER seeing a graphics loading screen. So shut up with that nonsense. Blizzard added a fantastic background loading graphics screen to its MMO and could perfectly tune the graphics to the exact medium they want it to be.The limit is in the design of an open ended MMORPG with no loading screens with present day hardware.Period. LEARN before posting rubbish. Are there higher pixeled MMO's ? Yes ... and then watch their OFF line loading graphics screens first and their unresponsive STIFF animations with a stick in the avatar's asses (like Aoc, Lotro, GW, War, you name it).

Interesting...The only post in the thread giving actual information and not only personal opinions that actually nobody cares about has been modded down, while the first post of the thread (a "Yes.") has been modded up.Sure, I really need "Yes" to be well visible and not be able instead to read the advantages that low res models give to the gameplay.

@sephirahBossy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Hard disk drives have been improving in both speed and technology, then there's the advances being made in solid-state drives. Also, who cares about loading screens? People care more about frame rates, and that has more to do with your video card's memory, which has been improving as well. The lack of loading screens between zones is also not new, nor was it when WoW was released - the original Asheron's Call was seamless! I remember playing that game in High School, and I graduated in 2000.
