What we know about the Warcraft movie

Last week, we reported that the Warcraft movie may be on its way. Previously there had been speculation that the film's development would be pushed back, since director Sam Raimi was tied up by problems with Spider-Man 4. Raimi then unexpectedly walked away from Spider-Man 4, citing creative reasons, and it suddenly looked hopeful that he might soon be turning his attention to the Warcraft film.
So now, in preparation for more news on the film, we will be bringing you up to date on what we currently know about the Warcraft movie.
Who
- Legendary Pictures will be producing the film. The company purchased the rights to the film from Blizzard in May 2006. Legendary Pictures' impressive resume includes Batman Begins, 300, Watchmen, and The Hangover.
- Sam Raimi, director of The Evil Dead series and, of course, the Spider-Man franchise, was announced as director for the Warcraft film in July 2009.
- Robert Rodat will be writing the script, according to an October 2009 interview with Raimi. Rodat is the screenwriter for Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot.
- There is currently no confirmation that the lead character will be an existing character in Warcraft lore. Raimi said in his October interview that he wanted to make a film about the game itself, meaning a film that features the land and lore of Azeroth.
- Chris Metzen said at Blizzcon 2007, that the Warcraft movie will definitely be a war movie, not a quest movie like The Lord of the Rings. Given Rodat was picked for the script, this fits the bill.
- Metzen also said Thrall will be in the movie during that same panel. This may be subject to change now that Raimi and Rodat are on the film, but Horde fans can hope!
Where
There is no confirmation on a shooting location yet, but rumors at Ain't It Cool News mention Raimi is in communication with "a certain legendary locale." This may mean that we will soon be seeing more of New Zealand. This would be appropriate given the director's experience there. Raimi was the producer for the television series Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, both of which were filmed in New Zealand. If Blizzard and Legendary Pictures had New Zealand in mind from the start, it may be one of the reasons Raimi was selected for the film.
When
This is the big question, and unfortunately there is no answer to it yet. When we know, you will.

This movie will be as they say. The jump of the shark, The Anti-christ, the downfall, beginning of the end, etc etc of WoW.

I know its cliche and we would already know what would happen, but a movie (or maybe movies) about Arthas/Lich King would just be to awesome. It would work NerZhul into there by having a 5 minute background on the Lich King (think "the first few minutes of Fellowship of the Ring" style) and then pickup at the beggining of the Arthas plotline in WCIII. then finish up where Blizz ended here recently with the Fall of the Lich King finale. Others may disagree but itd would be a gaurentee that itd be good at least (in a cliche way of course) and Ill take a movie thats gaurenteed to be good over a "it probably wont work".

What I have found on the internet is that this is going to be Alliance side based point-of-view. They already have selected someone to play King Varian Wrynn. They have state that Thrall will make an appearance in the movie. I am hoping that they end up changing their mind on the point of view. All movies similar to what this is going to be like is always from a more human aspect. Give them a different pov for once.

This movie better be mainly set on the Horde, the Allys can kiss my *butt*. For the Forsaken! Oh and If you happen to be a Gnome, I have a little message for you: Stupid midget........

a) The zombie movie genre is like a horse carcass that has been beaten beyond all recognition. It hardly sells anymore, save for lampoons like "Zombieland". So I'm sorry if your undead gothazoid pals won't make it to the silver screen.
b) The reason it's not set mainly on Horde is because people won't rush to a movie about a race of angry Incredible Hulks. Especially considering the debacle of Hulk movies in recent years. Save for Blood Elves, the Horde are not photogenic in any way to warrant a lead role in a blockbuster. If the Alliance and Horde were leading ladies, the Alliance would be Scarlett Johansson and the Horde would be fat actress Kirstie Alley.
Have a good one. )

I heard that Raimi had asked Brad Garrett to play Cairne but his gear score was too low.

Been updating about the warcraft movies on Twitter, I hope to see more like Twilight movie.I know it would buzz the net world especially the social networks. The people behind Please Rob Me are either incredibly funny or incredibly foolish. The site, helmed by Boy von Amstel (sounds like an alias) et al, started the site to basically take pot shots at people who use too much Twitter – and sort of combined this obsession with Twitter-ing, and a game called FourSquare, in which people try to find other people using clues they broadcast.

I would seriously go to the movies and pay like 15$ just to see a guy lvl from 1-80 with audio commentary, but it has to be 100% naked night elf warrior *FEMALE* (or SheMale *whatever floats ur boat*) ....

I sincerely hope they reconsider doing a live action rendition of this story that can ONLY be told through skillful CGI animation like we all fell instantly in love with when we first were blown away by the supremely talented artists of Blizzard Entertainment. While that may have been a run on sentence worthy of criticism, its 5:30AM and I about spit a mouthful of coffee on my keyboard when New Zealand was mentioned. New Zealand is beautiful but it is not what I want to see in another up it's own nose "legendary" film. I hope some people out there share my opinion that another 300 would be a letdown. If we WoW fans wanted gritty realism we would play Age of Conan. Sorry for the most likely premature fanrage.

I think the movie's story should be like over the War3 Campaign with less points of view (night elves, orcs, humans, undead. just concentrate on 1-2). And would focus on preventing, then stopping the Burning Legion's arrival. Considering this is a major piece to Warcraft, i think it would make sense :)
