If there's any hope that they do get this right, it could lie in whether the right deals are cut to provide incentives to make sure there is enough continuity along some crucial aspects of lore/characters/story/environment. By right deals, perhaps Blizzard provides a percentage to producers for any upticks to subscriptions once the film is released. Because for every movie that tries to create a video game tie-in to capitalize on the movie after the fact, here is a successful online game with a large worldwide player base already in place. You've got to figure there must be serious money and publicity talks around this fact.
After that, film is a different medium, and you hope that the right mix of creative interpretation creates a good balance with the final film. And hope they release it while the games is still popular and relevant.
Oh, and most importantly --> epic fight scene between Hogger and a murloc, please.
