The Classifieds: WoW player/MMA fighter on the mend

In news from the WoW community, guildmates of MMA grappler Haydn Clasby, aka Croc of <Defiant Hearts>, US Bloodscalp-H, are rallying in support after he suffered a broken neck in what was called a freak accident during a match in New Zealand last month. Friends and fans are publicizing a Recovery Fund to help Croc out with the medical costs of the devastating accident.
Our friend Jens "Little Evil" Pulver, also an MMA fighter and inveterate WoW player (and seen in yesterday's 15 Minutes of Fame), offered these words of support for Croc: "My heart and thoughts go out to you, brother. Make sure you keep your spirits up and tackle this with the same grit and guts you used to get in there in the first place. Take the time to heal and get well soon. Chin down, hands up and always come out fighting; don't let this stop you. I wish you all the best."
Best wishes, Croc, for your continued recovery!

COMMUNITY NEWS
- An effort to organize the EU's 10-man Strict community and address 10-man strict concerns is forming on the WoW Europe forums. "As the 10-man Strict raiding community is a small one, spread over all European servers, it is really hard to activate the majority," writes player Ghengie, EU Frostmane), "as it is very time-consuming to make alts on all servers to have a chat. We are a small group of players, so our combined voices still is not a really loud one. This results in the topic being on the edge of floating off the first page all the time." Lend your support and feedback on the forums.
- Word just in from Aleksey, former GM of Sedition on US Cho'gall-A and part of the movement to jump-start Cho'gall's overwhelmed Alliance population. Aleksey has finally thrown in the towel and moved on to a realm with more active Alliance players. Better luck to him on his new realm and to those still struggling to build an Alliance community on Cho'gall.
- Speaking of world PvP, players on US Scarlet Crusade are still coming down from the high of a massive, multi-guild Alliance raid on Orgrimmar: eight full 40-man raids, countless individuals and other raids and groups, in an effort that took weeks of planning by Alliance guilds. The Horde responded with a well planned counterattack. All in all, Thrall, Cairne and Varian all went down -- as did Scarlet Crusade as well as the entire Reckoning Battlegroup. Good times for all.
- Players on US Moon Guard are organizing an in-game event next month in support of cancer awareness. Get involved on the Moon Guard forums.
MILESTONES
- Congratulations to <Ministry of Truth>, US Winterhoof-H, on marking its first anniversary. Dedicated to helping new players, the guild has grown to more than 100 members with two active progression teams (one moving through ToTC after downing Lord Jaraxxus).
- <Order of Golden Fries>, US Moonrunner-A, is celebrating four years together this week. Congrats!
- Marking its three-year anniversary is <Suncrown>, the longest-lasting Blood Elf roleplaying guild on US The Venture Co-H, "where VCO is for FITE and wonderful world PVP."
- Our condolences to friends and members of <Insert Latin Name Here>, US Scarlet Crusade-A, on the loss of guildmate Uthrine, who passed away early this month. "He was young, vibrant, full of humor and life," wrote guildmate Boz. "His untimely death has rocked the whole guild and the many players on Scarlet Crusade who have had the pleasure raiding with him. Uthrine 1989 – 2010 -- he will be missed."
RANDOM ACTS OF UBERNESS
- Wår, US Nesingwary-A "As tank, his gear/HP wasn't uber. His attitude more than made up for it. Group was so awesome we ran four to five more. Total blast, great guy, fun runs. Hey Wår -- keep it real and maybe the LFD will put us in a group again some day." (Lornicide, US Hydraxis-A)
- Maceman <Core>, US Greymane-A "Maceman joined us for our guild's initial foray into ICC-10 as a pickup healer. He wound up raid-leading us through the first two bosses. Not once during the 18 wipes did he complain, mock or discourage us. He truly is an exceptional player!" (Helzibob, GM <Brotherhood of the Vale>, US Greymane-A)

It makes this column new and interesting.
Adam Holisky Jan 20th 2010 7:47PM
Clearly one that isn't as good as your guild, right?
You should feel better about yourself.
You do, right?
/facepalm
marco Jan 20th 2010 8:12PM
Adam...I just don't see the point of mentioning dismissable things like a guild clearing ToC 10 when even random pugs can do it. I did it on my greenback rogue (with another greenback mage in the raid) without dying. This column is extremely uninteresting. I don't remember ANY guilds I read about here anymore.
Meh, and to think I came here for news and a lol, not "Breaking news: new speed bumps."
Wowinsider Jan 22nd 2010 11:35AM
Good to see Adam flaming readers in the comments. You really showed us that the hasn't taken a turn for the worse since Schramm left.
/facepalm

A guild that is proud of clearing TOC 10? Just a thought.
Glaistig Jan 20th 2010 5:29PM
And here I thought I'd never see WoW players make an Anne Rice reference. Go Talamasca!
Superthrust Jan 20th 2010 5:41PM
I am the guild master of Dual Core (Ohthatsatan) and the guild website has moved. I have updated the old website (which is linked above) to point to the new one! Thank you!

I propose we put the "drama" question up to a poll. Do it!
Faulken S Wulf Jan 20th 2010 9:06PM
Don't bother. They kill off posts that ask too much about it. Stated they're never coming back to it. And apparently, restrict the post lengths of those who link to such place. (I, for example, can't actually POST my original reply to the link to my drama-blog being deleted because I don't get a confirmation e-mail for anything longer then this.)
Adam Holisky Jan 20th 2010 9:14PM
A poll would not reflect anything other than what the users who voted in it want. And the users who would vote would not represent any usable data for us, given they are a small percentage of total readership who feel strongly enough about an issue.
It's the same reason why Blizzard doesn't post a poll "Do you think protection paladins have too much AoE damage output?" and change game mechanics based on the results. Only the people who feel strongly enough about it are likely to vote, and feeling strongly about an issue is a result of usually feeling negative about an issue.
I've stated how we track and make decision in other threads in this post.
Re: Faulken
I'm afraid that we've decided not to allow your drama-related blog to be linked here in response to our articles. While you're more than welcome to have it -- I'll probably even visit it -- the wow.com comment section is not the place to advertise your site.
Warcloud Jan 20th 2010 10:18PM
Blizzard might not take polls per se, but they base decisions on sentiments in the forums/feedback all the time. Probably more than they should, really.
Faulken S Wulf Jan 20th 2010 9:29PM
I only decided to create one and throw it out there because of all the demand and the obvious disinterest of Wow.com to cover the material. It is obvious the staff is tired of the topic and feels that matter is closed. I did not intend to troll, poach, or offend. It is the reason I left the link and only the link. If you have a word count limit on my posts because of that, I hope in a week or two you might consider lifting it. I like this site, and its writers. And now that you explained why you removed my post, I can at least accept that. It is your blog. Cheers.

Apoligies for the possible attack I am about to make.
WoW.com does alot of good stuff, and I appreciate that a website such as this takes alot of effort to run and organise. The phyiscal threats that you mentioned towards WoW.com staff were indeed to far although I don't know if you recieved these by e-mail or the comments were deleted on the old thread. Im not saying "SS or it didnt happen" but I guess your word is good enough for this front.
Now I've done sucking up about time I got to the meat. Dropping the drama section is a bad dacision. Period. You might say that a few vocal people aren't a majority but you know as well as the rest of us that the internet is full of silents that will never or very rarely post an opinion are make them known past the "whos logged on" box. For me it comes down to a simple argument. If people don't like the drama that was in this section, then don't read it. The sections are clearly set out in big bold lettering so getting past it only requires a couple of mouse scrolls. Possibly a bad example, but do you read the horoscopes in your daily paper? I'm yet to met someone that doesn't just skip past it. But I bet the paper keeps it in anyway because a small majority like it. You say people can go to other places to get a drama fix, seems rather silly to be taking away something that gives wow.com it's varaity. So yeah, sorry lisa, but like the class specific threats Im just gonna skip past this article, and I urge everyone else to do the same from now on if you want drama back.
Please don't patronise us with statistics we are not aloud to see or know. It only frustrates us more. It feels like you know what's better for us and your protecting us somehow. Unless these statistics are a fabrication, which I severely doubt. Although if they are you are just digging yourself a bigger hole. If people just skip past this article that just want drama, then maybe these statistics will shed a much clearler light on the drama/dramaless argument.
I was going to mention something as the real reason I thought a week ago you started halting the drama. I'll not post it in fear of causing a flame war, but was something a about the political correctness brigigade gaining yet more stupid ground but i'll leave my thoughts on that depending on a reply to this, if I even get a reply.

BREAKING NEWS: Dickhead ninjas loot, empties guild bank and moves to a new server.
I mean, how many times you can vary this theme and still keep it interesting? FOX News notwithstanding, how often does any news outlet repeat the same old story ad nauseum?
Statistics be damned! Just come right out and say "we don't feel like writing about some slopehead who hasn't got the home training necessary to keep his own ass clean." I am behind you 100%. This is YOUR publication. Nobody plunking into this comment section pays you. Do what you think is write (sic) and you will win followers with your integrity.
Aece Jan 21st 2010 8:54AM
I wonder why a post of mine was deleted and the one above me? There was no name-calling in it, I tried to voice my concern and now it's suddenly gone? I guess that's one way to avoid any discussion about it: not allowing other people (in this case two first time posters) to even enter the discussion. That way you can easily sustain that only a small minority wants the drama section back.
I'll try to voice my concern again in another form, maybe that will work better: As I tried to explain in my previous comment I'm wondering why the writers of WoW.com all of a sudden changed their mind about their own column. I'm especially dumbfounded by the way people are treated who ask for the drama section to return. We did not invent the drama section, we just enjoyed it and want it back. And now all of a sudden we're treated like we are the worst scum of the universe for even admitting to like that section.
Wuxia Jan 21st 2010 9:33AM
Well Aece I guess we really touched a nerve.
Two first time posters with genuine feedback to provide, both deleted.
I had no idea I was so seditious...
Lornicide Jan 21st 2010 9:27AM
Ok, I'm lost.
Comments have been made stating that we want the drama back. These comprise a majority of the comments made, but we're being dismissed because our numbers are a minority as compared to the total readership (which includes people that DON'T post)?
Yeah, that's makes no sense.
Sorry, just the way I feel.
Lornicide Jan 21st 2010 9:29AM
BUT, I do still love the site!
Heck, I even posted a random act of uberness that got published. LOL
PeeWee Jan 21st 2010 9:42AM
"...making the system useless..."
People have said for as long a I've been here that your comments system is useless. And I mean it - IT'S UTTER AND COMPLETE JUNK!
And now we have an editor admitting to them using junk, too. Now all you have to do is admitting that you've gone and made a boo-boo by removing content that the people that actually care enough about the site to take their time to post, like and want back.
Sad thing is, as we actually show that we care about what we read and voice our opinion about it, we're generating pageviews. Pageviews that some oafs apparently think means that we like what we read. Newsflash - just because an article is loaded a lot does not mean it's good. Look at the comments, that's the _only_ way you can know what the people behind the keyboards are thinking, claiming anyting else is BS.
TLDR:
People that actually care have voiced an opinion - they want drama back. You have no idea what the rest of the readers think.
SarahTheGnome Jan 21st 2010 10:32AM
I agree with this. I don't mean to be overly critical but I find it odd that editors say; the opinions you see here are the EXACT opposite of what the public really wants. Yes, the public wants what is not expressed here, the majority agrees with opinions unseen, and said majority also remains unseen.
I do not really understand the logic, and well, from what I can tell, the comment system is unreliable, the rating system is, EVERYTHING is unreliable. So why is the fact that the majority does not want drama, reliable? How do you know the data on that does fit, while the data this commenting system provides, is completely falsified?
