The Queue: Patience is a virtue

This is usually the part where I try to be funny and write an eye-grabbing intro to The Queue. Today, that goes right out the window. Why? Because I'm busy. Busy doing what, you ask? Picking our new columnists! We have some good ones this time around, folks. Keep an eye out.
Anonymoose asked...
"Why does Keristrasza always yell "Preserve? Why? There's no truth in it! No, no, no!" whenever you engage? How is it relevant, lore-wise, to anything we did for the Red Dragonflight in and around the Nexus? Why is she frozen there in the first place?"
Go to Coldarra in Borean Tundra and do all of the quests. That area explains everything that happens in the Nexus and Oculus. If you don't do them, you're doing yourself a disservice. I won't spoil it, because it's a really interesting questline.
Task asked...
"I just went to www.wow.com on my iPhone. It immediately changed the address to i.wow.com, does this mean what I think it means?"
Possibly. It seems to be functioning (and a little more intelligently than it was originally) but before we make a real, official announcement that it's working again, we want to touch base with our techs/designers to make sure they're done tinkering. So go ahead, feel free to use it, but don't be surprised if it randomly stops working again. We're not completely sure it's "done" yet. When we are, we'll put up a post letting everyone know.
Many asked...
"When are the Creative headsets we won coming?"
When Creative releases the product. The ball is in their court on that one.
Dameblance asked...
"Has Blizzard ever had any idea's/plans about customizing the way gear looks on female characters? With some of my characters I don't mind the soft-porn look of gear, but for instance my female dwarfs and tauren look totally ridiculous in the unavoidable bikini-and-thong designs of some armor. Would be nice if you were able to choose between the male and female look of any given item."
Yes, I'm answering this question again, since people weren't happy with the answer Adam supplied yesterday. My answer is: There's no reason for them to make this happen, because I haven't run into a single piece of armor that causes this in a couple of years, and all of my characters are female. The worst thing they do with armor these days is maybe midriff or a little cleavage. Sure, the cleavage is silly, but it's a far cry from the days of bikini-and-thong. If you're running into that problem, I assume you're either in your 50s or managed to land the one really absurd piece of cloth armor in Outland that shows off endless leg. And booty, I suppose. You can't forget the booty. Level up a little and it will all go away. I don't think there's a single piece of armor in Northrend like this, and the last time you see it is if you pick up an unlucky green in Outland.
I'm a guy in real life, and I play female characters. I can say with pride that I've managed to avoid this issue on every single one of those characters. If I'm not happy with the midriff on my badass female paladin, I put on a tabard. She's an ironclad juggernaut. She has never worn a plate thong. It's simply never been necessary, it's completely avoidable. +1 Strength on a green isn't worth wearing a plate thong when you're level 52. Just skip it, and you'll most likely never run into that problem again unless you specifically seek it out.
WoW is pretty good about dodging the ridiculousness of the plate thong. There were a few that plagued vanilla WoW but that's about the extent of it. Exposed belly button is about as bad as it gets these days.

But, but, I like the booty! And the leg!

You know, I like the booty too, and just the other day, I bought the heirloom mail-agil chest-piece for my new, sexy blood-elf hunter-boy. I'd (ctrl+click) tested it on my main (A mage-girl) and it had worn like a bikini, so I was at least hoping to see some sexy cut-away shirt on my new hunter but alas! It was not to be, it wore like a sleeveless shirt. A magenta sleveless shirt.
I was most disappointed.
Also, it speaks volumes to the enchanting on these BoA items that they can re-size and in this case, entirely re-shape to cover varying degrees of body, and still retain identical protective/enhancement properties. Quite vexing. And I want my sexy BElf-Boy chest to show some. What a rort.

Warrior T10 has itself some midriff, too.

I know it has been brought up before, but is there;
A) any truth to the earlier rumors of the improved fishing mechanics?
B) If so, any updates on this?
I don't mind fishing, and it has certainly become a lot more popular as of late, but man can it be mind numbing!
Eyhk Jan 21st 2010 5:16PM
I still can't get over the fact that highly skilled fishermen can't cast where they want it to. I know there is some positioning involved to "RNG accurately" cast into a pool, but there are times when the bobber does a 360 just outside the edge of the pool and it's pretty aggravating.
Babaloo Jan 21st 2010 5:21PM
Didn't they say the new Fishing mechanic is coming out with Cataclysm?
rnekovei Jan 21st 2010 6:33PM
@Eyhk
That would be a 180. A 360 would be all the way around you and back in the pool, oddly that happens alot. You just don't notice it.
Hint: 360=0
Undra Jan 21st 2010 8:56PM
@rnek
he means when you center up on a pool and your bobbers land everywhere but inside the pool. Cast enough times and it ill eventually land in the proper area, and there is a little buffer just outside of the edge that counts as "pool".
I've casted a dozen times trying to hit a school of fish and it makes me wonder why there's a skill to level at all, since it doesn't make my bobbers more accurate and once it lands in the pool it doesn't take anything to catch something. They've gone and killed the profession and I can only hope it gets a proper ressurection in Cataclysm.

@rnekovei,
Don't show intelligence here. It frightens the masses.
gurgle Jan 22nd 2010 1:35AM
@Eyhk: I'm guessing that rng is mostly to prevent bots from autofishing? if you know the bobber will appear where the cursor casts to, then it might be easier to wait for the sound event and click again in that same location? just guessing, not a bot programmer ;)
(cutaia) Jan 22nd 2010 1:14PM
Would you just shut the hell up naughtybear? The person who used the phrase "360" was talking about the bobber making a "circle" around the fishing pool. You're defending a person who couldn't figure out something so simple by saying he showed too much "intelligence" for us. Your constant jabs at the readers here are getting pretty old considering how stupid you seem.

In response to Task's question about i.wow.com, I was wondering if it is possible for the mobile site to allow the floating wowhead item links like if you were hovering over them on the real interwebs. Its not a particularly large data transfer to charge up one floating tipbox so a mini-connection after the page loads initially wouldn't really affect much. It is however very nice to be able to see the tooltips for things, and this becomes even more useful on a mobile device where opening up a whole new page/window is much slower and clunkier than on a laptop or desktop. If you'd be so kind, pass along my wish to your mobile web developers; it'd be a real treat.
mel Jan 21st 2010 6:00PM
The problem with this is that the out of the box wowhead tooltips work on the link hover event (when your mouse pointer hovers over a link).
There is no hover event on Touch screen phones. It's click or nothing.

This is also what leads to feature creep. One good suggestion, and another, and another, and very soon you end up with the full www.wow.com site/page, instead of the i.wow.com super-fast mobile version. It's hard but right as a developer to say "no" to these kind of requests (sorry).
Dharmabhum Jan 22nd 2010 1:13PM
Fair enough for full touchscreen phones, but let me qualify this a bit more. I've got the G1 and it has a trackball very similar to BlackBerry models. If there's a link on the page, I can just scroll the ball down to that link and, on the full wow.com site, I get the link on "hover" since my "cursor" is on that link without actually clicking it. That was what I was suggesting since its just moving that functionality over from the main site to the mobile site. But I also agree that putting in too much defeats the purpose of a mobile site when it hogs resources; just a suggestion is all.
Also, I didn't know that i.wow.com and m.wow.com were different. I was on i.wow.com the other day as default when I navigated to just www.wow.com even though I'm not on an iPhone. Interesting, but maybe that will allow the mobile site developers to put that functionality in for the m.wow.com site for us users who don't have touch-exclusive input on our mobiles.
Again, ideas!

What happened to AAFL? Is Sacco slacking off now due to his new Editor title and new shammy column? I enjoyed the AAFL articles.

Yeah, I agree with D-back!
Patience may be a virtue, but mine is really beginning to wane!
