Upcoming tier 10 tank armor stat changes

With Icecrown Citadel's unpopular Chill of the Throne debuff, or as we like to call it, "Getting out of Dodge," tanks have had to re-prioritize in terms of avoidance and mitigation stats to the point where tier 10 gear might not be as desirable as Blizzard intended. Thankfully, they appear to have realized this, and change is coming! To tier 10 tank gear, anyway. Blizzard CM Zarhym posted a note on the official forums announcing their plans for said gear:
"We recognize that many plate tanks are making their gear choices based on the amount of armor they're provided, as this is currently the most preferred stat. In order to make the tier-10 plate tanking sets more desirable, we will be adjusting the stats on the gloves and chest pieces in order to inflate the amount of armor they provide in the next minor patch. This will apply to all item levels of the tier-10 death knight, warrior, and paladin tanking gloves and chest pieces."

I'm not pleased that one of the very few areas where my bear still had a slight edge, armor, is now being dulled.
Hosed. What's a bear gotta do to get a pot of honey around here?

Having 10k+ more HP isn't enough?
Cythen Jan 25th 2010 5:59PM
No! You may not eat the pony that Ghostcrawler is giving us!

It's not 10k. It's not even close to 10k.
Maybe if you're comparing different gear choices or iLvls, but a warrior with gear equivalent probably has ~3-4k less than a bear.

Idk what guilds you guys are in, but in mine, compared to our equally geared warriors and paladin tanks, I have roughly 12k more than them as a bear.
Most of us are in early 25 ICC and ilvl 258 ToGC gear.

This was my initial gut reaction, I admit. However, think this through:
They're ONLY putting this on the T10 pieces, and ONLY because they messed up and had to create Chill of the Throne. My guess is things will be back in line in Cata, and (hopefully) they don't mess up again (gee, haven't we said that before? lol).
Anyway, if this is what the other tank classes need to give them a bit of a boost in terms of mitigation then more power to them. Druids already had a massive edge in ICC because of our armor and health pool advantage... and the health pool advantage isn't diminishing, it's only getting worse (since we scale so horribly well with stam buffs, gems, and such).
So, let the lesser tanks who have to equip plate have their meager buff... I will continue tanking things with my face and enjoying it. :) ICC is a druid's time to shine, and if they have to be made more like us to do a good job, well that just makes me a smug bear :)

tier 10 pally set bonuses change???
Brad Jan 25th 2010 4:59PM
Im sorry I missed somethig...is called Druid tanking gear...................
Hates Jan 25th 2010 5:07PM
Totally agree with Manasseh and Brad....bears gettin no love. Without the stamina of the badge purchased PvP gear, I'm stuck in rogue gear all the time, which is good for threat, crap for survivability. I can barely break 55k HP without a priest.....that's not much more than the parrying, blocking plate guys who seem to have a cake walk of heroics. And as for positioning mobs for swipe/maul spam....nvm, I don't wanna go there! Blizz.....rebuff Dire Bear armor bonus again if you want us to still feel viable.
Dharmabhum Jan 25th 2010 5:48PM
I'd pay for a Bear Form armor buff...
Maybe I'll have to actually play my pally again now that they're making tier gear a little sweeter. It was tough to spend so many badges on gear that... oh who knows, my pally is now my saronite whore.

I believe this has to do with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50978 (Gauntlets of the Kraken)which is not apart of our set while http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50849 (Ymirjar Lord's Handguards) are.
I may be wrong though.
Manasseh Jan 25th 2010 5:58PM
a) they're 13 iLvls apart, and b) you potentially sacrifice a set bonus by selecting.
I see your point, but I think the tradeoffs are reasonable. *shrug*

@Manasseh
You are right, I made a mistake.I meant to do this guy -

Though there are balancing factors, I see why the set piece isn't quite so desirable.
However, if it makes that 4pc bonus, it's worth a whole lot more.

for all the QQing druids who didn't read the article:
"for those concerned about Feral tanks, they'll be keeping an eye on gear scaling on druid tank gear as well."
Love,
a literate warrior/druid/DK/paladin tank.
Manasseh Jan 25th 2010 6:05PM
I read it.
"Keeping an eye on," to me, means that once we've already fallen off the map in terms of desirability (people already foolishly think bears "take too much damage"), then they'll be buffed. "Keeping an eye on," to me, means watching as we fall behind because the our strengths that kept us balanced with other tank classes are being eroded.
No need to be rude about it, mate.
JBluntz Jan 25th 2010 6:16PM
"Getting out of Dodge"...
I lol'd.
devilsei Jan 25th 2010 10:55PM
Soooo... what shall be next on the list of tank-based changes?
Prot paladins, after glyphing Sense Undead, have become over powered, so we are removing the glyph to balance out their threat gen and dps?
After the sight of one druid tanking in ICC, we've come to realize that they require a 10% decrease in overall stamina?
Warrior's Devestate's damage will be increased by another 30%, bringing the total increase to 50%. The four-piece bonus set for T10 will also give them a 25% chance on auto-attack to reset its cooldown.
Death Knight tanks are now mind controllable by any boss mob in ICC, seeing that they were originally under the Lich King's control, its unfair not to let him try and claim them back.
Josin Jan 26th 2010 12:23AM
Warriors would still be behind the other tanks by 10% in DPS output. :D
