Sharm's I Kissed An Orc was stuck in my head for days after I heard it. I admittedly spammed it on Trade channel, in Wintergrasp, and even in an Icecrown Citadel. Sharm's outstanding voice and flair for effect parody makes I Kissed An Orc a solid, outstanding WoW song. Sharm's musical talent is absolutely amazing.
The music video was created by Millinia93. The video does good things for the song, and flows very well with the tempo and lyrics. The only real complaint is that the subtitles could have used a tad more polish, since the apostraphes could be a little distracting. (I'm used to the plural nickname for Alliance being Allies instead of Ally's, for example.) Still, a lot of that is a stylistic choice, and Millinia's work was ultimately impressive.
I'll close with the obvious joke that this parody is likely to become Jaina Proudmoore's theme song.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
To be fair, the video's author is a 16 year old girl. While the final product is nice, but not quite my cup of tea, I think she shows a lot of promise with the video editor and machinima in general (huge improvements from her first videos if you look at her youtube profile). Only good things can come of her "skills" (you try to edit a video...) if she keeps at it.
Atm I'm only making machinima for fun and trying to learn the different things that's possible to do with machinima. (Good luck finding all that..). I am indeed only 16 but don't see any reason why that should make me a bad machinimator. As far as I understand RedEye is only 16 too and he's amazing.
I was quite happy with the result of this video, though I now see that I could have changed a few things :P The lyrics I got in a notebook that I just copy-pasted. I was more focusing on the timing of the lyrics than the spelling. Shouldn't have done that.
I accept all good and bad words agenst my video. Can't expect anything else when you got it on the internet... ;)
Nothing bad at all! :P I was merely pointing out that the video was well done and showed skill, whether someone personally likes it or not, and that it was good for the community to have you interested in this kind of work.
I guess, for me, a parody has to have a little more divergence from the original. The Cranius/Summergale "Ulduar" parody of Timbaland's "Way I Are" is a perfect example: the melody and beat are the same, the key musical effects are the same, but the lyrics are significantly different from the original and are consistently about the new topic.
This parody has very, very small differences, lyrically from the original. It's still a parody, sure, but just not a really great one. My 2 cents, YMMV.
How is Ulduar not the same theme as The Way I Are?
The Way I Are: Boy likes girl. Boy have no money so he can't get what he thinks she wants from him. Boy tries to win her over in another way.
Ulduar: Boy likes girl. Boy have no gear/skill so he can't raid with her. Boy tries to win her over in another way (PvP).
the sole difference between the songs is that where Summergale tries to get Cranius to raid with her in Ulduar, Keri Hillson says that she doesn't need all the stuff. I theme of course.
@ Blondies I'm not entirely sure that's what Glaras meant. Yes the overall plot/story is the same but the actual lyrics aren't the same at all. For instance:
"Nothin left to do, let's do something new, so come meet me at Ulduar." as opposed to "Baby if you strip you could get a tip coz I like you just the way you are."
"I kissed an orc and I liked it." as opposed to "I killed a girl and I liked it."
In Ulduar, the rhythm, emphasis and flow match the original song, but the actual words are new. In I kissed an Orc, the song is essentially the same with a few different words. Cherry/Mulgore chapstick anyone?

"...this parody is likely to become Jaina Proudmoore's theme song."
Likely to become? That would imply it wasn't already.

Isn't mulgore chapstick made from cow patties?
Spiritfire Jan 25th 2010 3:01PM
No. It's made from rendered kodo fat and special mulgore herbage.

Ut oh, now it's in my head too. :)

Haha, amazing.
I love it!

Decent song, hated the actual video though.

I agree. I feel like Moviewatch is mostly (lately) decent songs and poor video editing efforts.
(Though couldn't they have found any better substitute than "mulgore chapstick"?)

Silvermoon Toothpaste?
Undercity Mouthwash?
There are only so many things you can taste while kissing someone that you'd actually want to taste..
