Tuesday Morning Post: Not the horse edition
I'll be honest though, the big story for me this week was the release of the Invincible music. Seriously, this is some amazing music and I can't wait to hear it in game. That said, it better not be about the horse. Seriously, Arthas. I love you and all, but that horse is just dumb. You gotta let it go. It was years ago. No-one liked that horse but you. And seriously, naming it Invincible was just thumbing your nose at fate. No, this had better be a plaintive hymn to the fall of Lordaeron, the loss of innocence, and the beloved prince that you once were, played as the Argent Crusaders and the Ebon Blade carry your body off on a bier while Varian, Jaina, Muradin, Thrall, Saurfang, and Bolvar Fordragon watch solemnly.
Yes, I may have put too much thought into this.
Anyhow, you didn't come to hear me rant, you came to catch up on your WoW news during the downtime. As such, please find our usual summary of the last 7 days or so below the cut!

Its a very epic song :D...Can't wait for the arthas encounter
Uriahworld Jan 26th 2010 6:08AM
The Invincible music is seriously kick-ass!
Cyanea Jan 26th 2010 6:16AM
An absolutely gorgeous song...whose effect is gonna be lost when the people on your Vent won't shut up about the kill, start arguing about loot, or laugh at how "gay" the whole thing is.
Weiss Jan 26th 2010 6:26AM
If this is played during or after the fight then it looks to me like the Instance music from Kara has finaly been topped
Braden Borg Jan 26th 2010 6:41AM
I think it might be played after the lich king is defeated...maybe during the cinematic?
Jamie Jan 26th 2010 8:54AM
I'd like to think the FF Battle Fanfare would be played and then our team would all stop and do their victory pose.
Yes, yes, I know a Final Fantasy reference is ftl but it was going through my mind my retribution paladin spinning his blade like a buster sword and putting it hilted on his back.

Daniel - yeah, you did put a bit of thought into that scene. I'd wanted something almost exactly the same. Perhaps if Frostmourne is destroyed more of those spirits might show up, maybe even his father... (ok, so I grew up watching Return of the Jedi, so sue me).
Other thought, perhaps it's the same crew saying goodbye to the new Lich King, as hinted in the ICC dialogue, left to contain the scourge, perhaps walking the shattered walls of Icecrown, looking out over the legions of undead and still totally alone.
Re: Kara music - I was so disappointed to not have the complete suite from Karazan on the soundtrack. That place had some of the best atmospheric music this game's ever seen.
BlueMia Jan 26th 2010 6:09PM
Yeah Kara music was the best back in BC. Still is up towards the top, though I have to say a decent amount of the Wrath music is pretty spectacular.
Juneau Jan 26th 2010 7:10AM
Is all Wrath music this awesome? I'm starting to regret turning the music off and listening to my own.
Sarabande Jan 26th 2010 9:02AM
Just my opinion, but yes - I think the much of the Wrath (and WoW music in general) is wonderful.
You might go through a few play sessions with it on and see what you think - the mournful men's choir in Stormpeaks, the pipes in Howling Fjord and Grizzly Hills (kind of Celtic maybe?) the insistent drumbeats in Wintergrasp to match the feel of a large battlefield. And the whimsical whistling in Sholazar Basin. :D
I think it all adds to the feel of the game and different zones.
And this piece of music (the one in this article) is beautiful! Yeah, I bet it would be epic played LIVE. :D
Kelsey Jan 26th 2010 9:32AM
I hang out in Grizzly Hills just for the music. =)
But in all seriousness, if you haven't heard any of the Wrath music, turn it on and start flying right away. It adds so much atmosphere to the game. Like Saraband, I think all the music is good, but Blizzard really outdid themselves in this expansion.
Killchrono Jan 26th 2010 7:11AM
"Yes, I may have put too much thought into this."
Actually, I was thinking the exact same thing. Well, maybe not being carried out on the bier, but certainly the mourning of Arthas.
Hearing this song almost makes you feel....sorry for him.
Terrë Jan 26th 2010 7:39AM
I've always felt sorry for Arthas. And, whether the music is about Invincible or not, it does make me think that that horse was the only creature Arthas truly loved, above and beyond Jaina. I'm such a softy that I actually shed tears when reading Christie Golden's 'Arthas' when Invincible died, and also when he was bought to life again. I've visted the grave on many occasions, and stopped and wondered, if maybe there's just a tiny part of the noble prince that Arthas was still left (hints in game make it seem as if, even in his madness and his possession, he still has some memory of what he was and even now, fights to save Azeroth in the only baddass evil way that is left to him).
I think I would possibly kill to get a score of this music. One of the choirs I've sung in is a professional one (They do the music for Dr Who, amongst other things) and it would be absolutely epic to have a Warcraft themed concert.
Doxel Jan 26th 2010 9:23AM
where is the grave?
Skarlette Jan 26th 2010 10:47AM
Doxel, it's at the Balnir Farmstead in Tirisfal Glades, not far from the Bulwark.
Alanid Jan 26th 2010 12:34PM
I too have felt sorry for Arthas, I mean he only tried to save his people, which ironically delivered them to the scourge. I'll give an example for those who don't sympathize. It's funny because when he became a Death Knight he really cared for his undead "subjects", until the Dreadlords took control of a lot of them, he then realized that he couldn't allow himself to be attached to anything. Most of the "lessons" that have made him the Lich King that he is now have been because of other people.
Also I think this music is definitely about Arthas, it plays at the end of The Frozen Throne, and if you listen it also mentions Ner'zul in the end of that version. It also plays when he walks down to Sindragosa's fall in the WotLK intro.
BlueMia Jan 26th 2010 6:10PM
I totally cried too when Invicible died/was brought back. I was sopping so bloody hard I think I still have tear stains on those pages

"With the 5 AM to 11 AM pacific downtime coming our way, it's probably safe to assume we aren't getting Patch 3.3.2 this week."
There have been many patches that have come with a downtime of 5-11. It's not going to be a huge patch like 3.1 or 3.2 or 3.3, and won't need extended maintenance. They are just starting a new arena season, a new voa boss, opening a new wing in ICC, and fixing a few things. That's not a lot of content, especially since the raid content is already there. They are just making it available to us.
Besides, they can always extend it later into the day.
Kanap Jan 26th 2010 8:42AM
I'm in agreement that this song is in fact epic.
Dion Jan 26th 2010 8:44AM
Hmm Im' not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Invincible is actually played in the trailer for 3.3, right where Terenas starts talking to Arthas =)
