No mention of WoW on the Apple iPad

And many of you began writing into us as soon as the iPad announcement was made, asking if we knew about WoW running on the iPad.
The answer is no, we have no information, and there is no indication that WoW will run on the iPad. The armory app should work automatically (as well as all your other iPhone/iPod Touch games), and there is certianly room to make the armory app even better on the iPad -- but we don't even know if such a plan is in the works yet.
The iPad, especially with its dirt cheap data plans for $14.99 and overall cheap starting price of $499, can obviously have an impact on guild websites and keeping abreast with WoW news, but that's all that the WoW community will get from it, for now.
So again, just so we're clear: No WoW on the iPad right now.

The killing blow on the iPad.

ROFL for the WoW industry at least.
We'll see if Apple gets the print media industry like it did the music industry.

Of all the things it has going against it, I think the inability to run WoW is near the bottom.
#1 is probably the fact that it sounds like an electronic feminine hygiene product.

I beg to differ. The inability to run WoW is the biggest thing that keeps the iPad from being a complete laptop replacement for me. It's not going to happen, though: the device doesn't have the power to do it, Blizzard isn't going to invest in building and testing their game for a completely different interface and OS, and installing/updating add-ons would be nigh on impossible without a familiar computer file system.
(But if Blizzard did decide to make a WoW for the iPad - which, again, isn't going to happen - they could very well have it include a built-in authenticator...)

Oh come on now.

Seem like just an iphone that got hit with a steamroller and costs more money, but I dunno a lot about it.

That was my impression as well. If I wanted a cell phone the size of a road atlas, I would travel back in time to 1986. If I wanted a tablet computer, I'd buy one that was a fully functional workstation.
Meatwadz Jan 27th 2010 5:22PM
Let's not forget that it does not support multitasking, let alone a massive app like WoW. Like those phones with GIANT numbers.. seems like this is just an iPod touch that is Grandma compatible.

So we can all agree this is a pretty stupid product?
Izzy Jan 28th 2010 6:47PM
Actually it costs LESS than the iPhone. The iPhone is subsidized and is $599 and up without a contract.
And no, we can't agree this is a stupid product. But we can agree you are biased.

There appears to be a severe lack of keyboard. :(
Arednel Jan 27th 2010 3:04PM
it has the same kind of keyboard the iPhone has, appears only when required.
Khremloc Jan 27th 2010 3:12PM
But a keyboard is always required, especially when playing WoW. :( It would be a bit of a nuisance to have a keyboard covering up most of your screen while playing WoW.
Krizhek Jan 27th 2010 7:28PM
You can purchase a key board accessory that also makes it into a stand.
Daedhir Jan 27th 2010 3:14PM
They also showed a hardware keyboard you can plug into the iPad. It's a sold-separately accessory.
FeverSK Jan 27th 2010 3:20PM
It's going to have a physical keyboard accessory.
Chad Jan 27th 2010 3:26PM
I wonder if this will have a separately sold key-board accessory.
Scott Jan 27th 2010 4:24PM
@Chad:
I recall seeing on either Gizmodo or Engadget an Apple brand docketing accessory with attached keyboard. In the picture, the iPad is docketed in portrait layout, so within the context of this particular docking station, WoW would have to run in portrait mode.
Daedhir Jan 27th 2010 4:26PM
To be fair, I simul-posted with the person before me. ;)
Green Armadillo Jan 27th 2010 4:59PM
Independently of the keyboard, perhaps someone could write an add-on/app that makes the actual hotbar on your screen touch-able. The bigger issue is size - the WoW client already takes up well over half of the smallest pad's hard drive.
