Well, I believe there's a lot of evidence to back up the idea that white males are the default for just about everything conceivable and that any application that needs an icon that represents "person" it will use something that looks white and male. I guess this is just taking that one step further- that in a world of other races, the default is still the white human male. I mean, they could come up with a set- male orcs are the default DKs, female night elves the default Druids... they could even use the armory data they must have to find the most common gender/race combination for that class to actually give a majority the idea what their character would look like.
