The Queue: Pony games
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
The above is a screenshot from Free Realms. Dancing ponies are not exactly my thing, but god knows we've talked about them enough. So I think after this screenshot, I'm never going to ask for a pony again. Forget it.
Instead I'll be asking Ghostcrawler for a moose. I encourage you all to as well.
Ghostcrawler promised me a moose.
Eddy asked...
"Can you lose achievements? I just got the Loremaster of EK and Kalimdor achievements and I keep reading things on Wowhead about how such and such quest used to count, how people's quest count changed... and I'm a little anxious about them. If Blizzard changes whether, say, a particular quest counts for EK or Kalimdor and messes up my totals, would the achievement disappear?"
Right now, once you have an achievement you have it for good. I don't anticipate Blizzard changing their stance on this anytime soon. However the idea of permutable achievements does sound cool -- think if the guild with the most players online at any one time all got the title "of the Crowded," or the player online with the most non-buffed HP got "the Tank." But those are not necessarily achievements as much as titles (much like the current arena titles are implemented).
Either way, for now -- you're safe. No chance of having an achievement removed by normal gameplay means.
Sprinte asked...
"Why did the Lich King never launch a counteroffensive against the Horde and Alliance? He seems to have been on the defensive the entire expansion. A friendly visit to Dalaran could have been great fun. Think of the chaos!"
Who says he's not going to go to Dalaran? Maybe he'll meet up with Jaina and some undead form of Kael'thas and they'll all sit around and pine about how they hate and love each other. I won't continue where this story goes... but what I'm trying to say (for real) is that we don't know that Arthas is done yet.
As for him being on the defensive most of the expansion, we can assume that's because he's had the problems at the Wrathgate, as well as the major offensive he had prior to Wrath's release. That's a lot to happen to any nation state (even a terrorist one like Arthas'), so I don't think anyone should be too surprised nothing has happened yet.
Besides, there's a Cataclysm on the horizon...
And Shade? You win one internets today. Congrats!
Tim asked...
"Does Blizzard hate trolls? We have plenty if backstory, which I am thankful for. It's just that players kill so many of them in the game. Who knows how many troll themed instances there are? I know I don't. It seems Blizzard wants us to enjoy killing them."
No, Blizzard doesn't hate trolls. They also have you kill tons of humans, elves, and other creatures. They don't have you kill enough gnomes however. Clearly Blizzard loves gnomes.
Kyrro asked...
"Does weaponskill have any effect to casters? Would I do better with 400 skillpoints staves than 1 skillpoint in staves?"
Nope. The only thing weapon skills will reward you with is an achievement. Although if you are a caster and can use a wand, I suggest having that skill be maxed. You never know when you'll want to play with your wand...

What ever happened to the boat music that you'd hear when traveling to Northrend? Here's what it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dumZn8MrX6M&feature=related

Thank you for the link. I'd nearly forgotten about it, and it's such a beautiful piece.
Hansbo Jan 27th 2010 12:15PM
Reminds me a lot of the music from Braid. Which was beautiful.
talkingmike Jan 27th 2010 12:19PM
That music is certainly cool. But it has more of a nostalgic feeling for the totally awesome bitchin' camaro coolness that was the first few hours of playing through my first WoW expansion pack experience.

As long as they replace it with Polka music, I never noticed.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jan 27th 2010 3:23PM
Doh - "don't replace it"
I want to buy a "don't" Pat!

If I remember correctly, a few months ago there was tell of a new raid boss for the Valentines' holiday, any word from what that boss is/might be?
Kind of hoping it's in some way related to ICC since the gated progression makes it synch up to around then.

You have to go back to Kara and kill Romulo and Julieann.
I hear they drop vanity pets too. Small crates. They don't move once put down, but they are weighted and they love you. If you put a basic campfire down they will be incinerated and a timer will show how long it took you to incinerate your friend. If you get the new record it becomes a slice of cake.
SpaceGoatPriest Jan 27th 2010 11:28AM
I would almost guarantee if they do a Valentine's day boss, it will not be in a high level raid. Bliz wants just about everyone to be able to experience the world events.
Phil Jan 27th 2010 11:37AM
Haven't seen anything about a raid boss, but there is evidence in the files that points to a dungeon boss in SFK during Valentine's Day.
Missescake Jan 27th 2010 11:47AM
There's anachievement listing their names, I believe it's one or a pair or undead apothecaries (not at home to check atm). Beyond that, I can't recall any info on where, what level, etc, sorry.
ScorchHellfire Jan 27th 2010 12:05PM
Look under the world events tab in Love is in the Air... the bottom one will be the achievment for the new boss... IIRC its a trio of undead apothecaries in Shadowfang Keep...
Eyhk Jan 27th 2010 12:31PM
With the new level cap at 80, I doubt anybody would have a problem clearing kara with a 5 man except maybe the chess event lol. And since the holiday bosses were usually tuned for the level cap, you probably wouldn't be able to kill them with level 60s anyways. Kara is an awesome place to have any kind of event. I love the dungeon itself, although the loot got old pretty fast.

"You never know when you'll want to play with your wand..."
*Desperately tries to keep mouth shut*
jtrack3d Jan 27th 2010 11:15AM
Well, you'd never want your wand to feel lonely from disuse.
Metatron Jan 27th 2010 11:16AM
that's what he said

Most boys have their wand skill maxed by 16...

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover
And my wand was missing again.
This happens all the time.
It's detachable.
