The Queue: Pony games
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
The above is a screenshot from Free Realms. Dancing ponies are not exactly my thing, but god knows we've talked about them enough. So I think after this screenshot, I'm never going to ask for a pony again. Forget it.
Instead I'll be asking Ghostcrawler for a moose. I encourage you all to as well.
Ghostcrawler promised me a moose.
Eddy asked...
"Can you lose achievements? I just got the Loremaster of EK and Kalimdor achievements and I keep reading things on Wowhead about how such and such quest used to count, how people's quest count changed... and I'm a little anxious about them. If Blizzard changes whether, say, a particular quest counts for EK or Kalimdor and messes up my totals, would the achievement disappear?"
Right now, once you have an achievement you have it for good. I don't anticipate Blizzard changing their stance on this anytime soon. However the idea of permutable achievements does sound cool -- think if the guild with the most players online at any one time all got the title "of the Crowded," or the player online with the most non-buffed HP got "the Tank." But those are not necessarily achievements as much as titles (much like the current arena titles are implemented).
Either way, for now -- you're safe. No chance of having an achievement removed by normal gameplay means.
Sprinte asked...
"Why did the Lich King never launch a counteroffensive against the Horde and Alliance? He seems to have been on the defensive the entire expansion. A friendly visit to Dalaran could have been great fun. Think of the chaos!"
Who says he's not going to go to Dalaran? Maybe he'll meet up with Jaina and some undead form of Kael'thas and they'll all sit around and pine about how they hate and love each other. I won't continue where this story goes... but what I'm trying to say (for real) is that we don't know that Arthas is done yet.
As for him being on the defensive most of the expansion, we can assume that's because he's had the problems at the Wrathgate, as well as the major offensive he had prior to Wrath's release. That's a lot to happen to any nation state (even a terrorist one like Arthas'), so I don't think anyone should be too surprised nothing has happened yet.
Besides, there's a Cataclysm on the horizon...
And Shade? You win one internets today. Congrats!
Tim asked...
"Does Blizzard hate trolls? We have plenty if backstory, which I am thankful for. It's just that players kill so many of them in the game. Who knows how many troll themed instances there are? I know I don't. It seems Blizzard wants us to enjoy killing them."
No, Blizzard doesn't hate trolls. They also have you kill tons of humans, elves, and other creatures. They don't have you kill enough gnomes however. Clearly Blizzard loves gnomes.
Kyrro asked...
"Does weaponskill have any effect to casters? Would I do better with 400 skillpoints staves than 1 skillpoint in staves?"
Nope. The only thing weapon skills will reward you with is an achievement. Although if you are a caster and can use a wand, I suggest having that skill be maxed. You never know when you'll want to play with your wand...

Hate gnomes? How can you hate a gnome? I mean, c'mon, a little squeaky thing with a big sword (well, big in comparison to it), how can you not just want to murder it and then Cannibalize its cute little body? How?
Squirr3llywrath9 Jan 27th 2010 12:48PM
I agree 100%. Gnomes are just awesomeness taken physical form. Now BEs on the other hand... Well, The world could use another TK or MgT that's all I'm saying.

I don't think the person replying read the end of the comment.
I love gnomes, too. I love punting them and snacking on them.
Croe Jan 27th 2010 3:12PM
That's not a sword. It's actually a pocket knife.
Kylenne Jan 28th 2010 2:43PM
Gnomes are best served marinated in delicious spicy garlic sauce and grilled on kebabs.
That's Good Eats!

Don't play with your want too much though casters. I hear it affects vision, hearing, and has a strange side of hairy palms

Ive checked it out on wowhead, but ingame he does not show all the items. I can see some of them. Are they removed?
RogueJedi86 Jan 27th 2010 11:42AM
Gotta be at least 70 to see them I think, since they were intended to be a level 70 pvp starting set.
wrendil Jan 27th 2010 11:53AM
The plate he sells is the old Level 70 PvP Rare set, but its class specific unless they changed it. You would get some here and some there and it would only show you what was open for your class. Don't think there is any for DKs.

The picture is completely irrelevant to World of Warcraft. This is a WoW-based website, so stop posting articles of other games and shit. Man, have you guys really got that bored of your job? wow.com just ain't what it used to be...
Snowfeather Jan 27th 2010 11:22AM
If you bothered to read the blog it was a direct comparison on why we shouldn't ask ghost crawler for a pony.
I'll be asking for a moose as well, as long as they use the talbuk skeleton and not the reindeer.
What I really want to know is if they ever plan on fixing the reindeer models. when you run the hind feet flip out to the sides oddly and when you jump the legs are stiff and have no smooth movement. Every Winterveil i cry a little bit more seeing their bad graphics.
Azerael Jan 27th 2010 11:28AM
The picture is relevant to previous posts regarding mounts . I find the non-WoW pictures very applicable to the material contained within the articles for the most part. Whatever the site was, it has evolved into a relevant place for real world people to discuss Warcraft..and other games greatly affect WoW because it helps shape the direction of the game.
In this example, a dancing pony was requested. Thanks to another game where we see a dancing pony in action, it is determined that we really want mooses instead. I say, plus one for the moose.

WoW.com is not what it used to be, you're correct. And neither is WoW. One of the enduring qualities of WoW and the associated community, like WoW.com, is the off topic diversification that comes about. It keeps things fresh and interesting, and we've seen a noticeable uptick in community participation and overall hits since we've started allowing more than the generic WoW screenshot for article images. I know some folks don't agree with it, but I think our results speak for themselves; most people don't mind it, and indeed seem drawn to a little bit of non-wow references now and then.
Kadamon Jan 27th 2010 2:58PM
About the picture, honestly, it weirds me out.
Especially the model for the female there...what kind of person has an ass like that? Seriously, it's creepy.
Arbitor Jan 27th 2010 7:48PM
I know right?
I've gotten really sick of that too.
I mean, them posting humourous pictures on THEIR WEBSITE?!?
When it has something to do with a recurring joke to WoW players!?!?!
This is wrong.
Downright treachery, wow.com should be closed down, yeah.
This website is ours to visit and should meet our exact standards and specifications.
....
Grow up, it ain't your website, its their's.
And if you don't like it?
Then you can GIT OWtT!
