Recently the Emerald Nightmare, an area of corruption within the Emerald Dream, began growing in size, transforming the Dream into a realm of unimaginable horror. Green dragons have been unexpectedly caught up in the Nightmare, emerging from it with shattered minds and twisted bodies. Druids who have entered the darkening Dream lately have found it difficult -- sometimes even impossible -- to escape.
Nor are these the Nightmare's only victims: more and more people are being affected. Even Malfurion Stormrage, first and foremost of the druids on Azeroth, may have fallen victim to this growing threat. As uncontrollable nightmares spread across the world, a desperate quest begins to find and free the archdruid.
The collector's edition costs $32 and will ship the week of March 8th, 2010; whereas the normal editions of Stormrage release on February 23rd, 2010.
Stay tuned to WoW.com in the coming weeks when we'll have early reviews of the book for you, as well as an interview with author and Warcraft storyteller Richard A. Knaak.

Well ... I'd rather have one of his Dragonlance books signed, but this might suffice for the collection.

I actually am looking forward to reading that book...quite abit actually.

I preordered mine at 9am this morning. Boo-Ya!

Sweet, I can put this right next to my signed Arthas. I just wish there were more special editions.
Ringo Flinthammer Jan 28th 2010 2:41PM
I sure hope this doesn't replace playable Emerald Nightmare content that we were eventually going to get.

I hope it does. Throwing everyone and their mother into the Emerald Dream is ridiculous. Emerald Dream needs to stay a Druid thing lore-wise.

While his "...of the Dragon" novels are generally less-than-well-received, I thoroughly enjoyed his War of the Ancients Trilogy. Looking forward to this one.

Dunno if I'm going to pick this one up or not... I read "Day of the Dragon" and wasn't terribly impressed. Don't get me wrong, I have no real problem with the "Rhonin-Sue" controversy... but when someone calls a dragon a "leviathan" or (even worse IMHO) refers to eyes as "orbs" more than once in a paragraph, much less a page... just kind of awkward to read, at least for me.
I bought the War of the Ancients trilogy at the same time as DotD... haven't cracked it open yet. I'll give it a chance before passing final judgement on Knaack, but if the style hasn't improved I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the rest of his books. I'm not saying he's a BAD writer, he just has little quirks that get under my skin and keep me from getting truly immersed in the story (from what I've seen so far).

Here. I'll say it for you:
He's a bad writer.
-- though "awkward" is a good way to describe his overwrought and clunky style.
Loyalists, feel free to downrank me -- I will respond with quotes from The Sundering, one of the worst books I have ever forced myself to read.
On a different note, I think this book's release is further evidence that Cataclysm will arrive sooner or later.
Also, I'm guessing that the Emerald Nightmare will not end up being an expansion unto itself, as has often been posited, but will instead be Patch 4.1 or 4.2
And one last interesting tidbit: I was using the Repair utility the other day, and as it was scanning through all my data files, I happened to look up and see a few of the files' names race past, and they were labeled "Emerald Dream" -- anybody know what those might could be??

He is a bad writer. He repeats himself quite a lot, as you noticed. It was particularly bad in Night of the Dragon, though the plot in that one was weak too.
paragorillabear Jan 28th 2010 3:19PM
hm. meant to say "sooner rather than later"
yes, we need an edit feature
hm. maybe this is what happened to Knaak -- he just had bad editors (or no editors at all -- he just wrote his book, clicked a button, and DAMN! it was too late to fix it)
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jan 28th 2010 3:21PM
He IS a terrible writer.
Drakkenfyre Jan 28th 2010 3:22PM
Those files have been in the game since the release.

He -is- a terrible writer. I mean, he named his star Mary Sue character Rhonin. Ugh!
Alanid Jan 28th 2010 4:53PM
I think it's really a matter of personal opinion, personally I like his books, sure they aren't the best I've read but I still enjoy them.
Sleutel Jan 29th 2010 1:54PM
I tried reading the War of the Ancients trilogy, and I don't think I made it past the first chapter of the first book. It read like fanfiction--and not even good fanfiction. Clunky, awkward, inexperienced fanfiction. The kind written by someone who's trying very hard but hasn't yet learned that their thesaurus ISN'T always their best friend.
AMS Jan 28th 2010 2:55PM
I thought this was supposed to be a Cataclysm tie in book....?
Knob Jan 28th 2010 3:11PM
There's a separate Cataclysm novel coming later on that's written by Christie Golden.
ben Jan 28th 2010 9:27PM
I wish jeff grubbs and christie golden got more WoW stuff to write. I'm reading "The Last Guardian" at the moment, and cannot put it down. It's great!
Tridus Jan 28th 2010 3:07PM
His last book (Night of the Dragon) was hands down the worst of all the Warcraft novels. Based on that alone, I'm not willing to pony up for a hardcover special edition of this.
If some reviews tell me it doesn't suck as much as his last book... maybe I'll buy a paperback.
