WoW.com welcomes our new lore columnist!

And find the best one we did. Though it was a tough choice, we're proud to announce that we've hired Anne Stickney as our new lore columnist.
You might know Anne as Shade, writer of the popular lore blog Shades of Grey. With her encyclopedic knowledge of the Warcraft universe, her light-hearted style, and her intent of making lore accessible to anyone who cares to read about it, she was the perfect choice.
Anne will be providing all kinds of lore-based content to WoW.com, whether it's new Know Your Lore columns alongside Matthew Rossi, keeping our older lore columns up to date, or brand-new speculation based on upcoming content. You'll start seeing these in a few weeks, once she joins our raid and helps us take down the ultimate foe -- paperwork.
Also, please remember that we are looking for a resto shaman columnist -- you can find out more information on our applications page.

Well this is a fun way to find out that your job application has been denied.
In all seriousness, I hope Anne does a great job and I wish her nothing but the best. Knock the Lore out of the park
Aldarion Jan 28th 2010 7:42PM
Same here. But I still wish her all the best, knowing her work she's sooo much a better pick than I would have been.

Great recruitment. Shades and Richard Powell (over at Lorecrafted) are 2 of the best lore-verlords I've come across. Having one of them on board is something of a coup, nice job!
Will look forward to this column greatly!

omg, it's the person who wrote up that amazing, eye-opening speculation on the Old Gods a couple weeks ago!!! *squee!* =D
Bryan approves +25
Meethan Jan 28th 2010 6:58PM
Ah well. Good job Shade! I hope to see some creative insight from you in the future!

Good choice.
Though what is this "resto" shaman you speak of? Are they related to the mythical "healers" I've heard tale of?
Fairly sure you can miss them out, either shammies are rollin on my rogues MH or wearin SP gear to fool you.

Dont know what to think. There was that absolutely brilliant piece on the Old Gods. On the other hand there was that article arguing that the Orc's campaigns of genocide were fine because 'someone told them to do it'.
Not too optimistic.

Ah well. We're getting a Horde focus in Know Your Lore anyway.
"The Alliance did X, some guy named Turalyon was there. Now here's 2 paragraphs on what the Old Horde, led by the noble Ogrimm Doomhammer, did in response."
Shade Jan 28th 2010 11:32PM
Dresden: The article you're questioning isn't really saying the orcs were right or wrong - it's a summary of the origin of the orcs and how they came to be. While I don't particularly care for the genocide aspect of orc origins, what I was trying to do was demonstrate that the orcs themselves aren't really 'bad guys' per se - they're just...extraordinarily primitive. Really, the biggest thing that the orcs had working against them is that they were a very primitive society based on brute strength rather than smarts.
While it doesn't make their actions particularly 'forgiveable' by any stretch of the imagination, the downfall of the orcs was ultimately that they weren't terribly bright. Had Ner'zhul recognized Kil'jaeden for who he was, it's doubtful they would've ever traveled the path they've followed.
Al: I like to think of myself as a neutral storyteller - while I play Horde primarily, I also have level 80's on Alliance side, and I'm more than familiar with the lore on both. Each side has its own advantages and disadvantages, and each side has its own versions of history and what's led to present day events. I try to take a neutral side when presenting these events, which is why on my blog to date I've had an equal number of Alliance focused articles, and Horde focused articles, with no particular bias one way or the other.

Fair enough, I've only read your Old God/Dragon one, after someone sent me a link.
So I was responding more to the current trend on this site.
