The Queue: More WoW

Another week, another Queue. I was tempted to make this Queue all about Star Trek Online (check out Massively's STO page for more info), but I decided that after the puppies and what not from last week, we needed some WoWness.
So let's begin.
Valt asked...
Why I can open dungeon finder tool at level 15 but it keeps saying I'm supposed to level up for dungeons like Deadmines and Ragefire Chasm to queue up for them.. isn't that a bit useless teaser?
There are two issues here. First, it's letting you know that you have instances available to you eventually. The other alternative is for players not to be able to see any instances until they have access to them, which doesn't provide much incentive for them level up. If you know "in just one more level" you can hit up Stockades... well, that "one more level" is going to seem more important to you than it really is, and get you to play the game for that extra hour or so. At the end of the day, that's a good way for Blizzard to make more money.
Secondly, there is a bug where the dungeon finder tool is not allowing players of certain levels to queue for level appropriate dungeons. This could be what you're experiencing, however I can't be sure.
Either way, don't worry about it too much and just level up a bit. You'll be happier all around.
Gamer am I asked...
"As someone who can't raid, I would still really like to see how the Lich King saga ends. Will WoW.com do a spoiler filled post about the end of that saga once we know how it ends?"
Yes.
Nizari asked...
"How many wow.com writers actually read the comments in their articles?"
Everyone reads the comments, and the editors regularly moderate. We don't comment all the time, and we don't normally respond to trolls or spitefulness. But we're here.
Nizari also asked...
"I remember there was a period during TBC when server maintenances would just be rolling restarts, and long down times were rare. However, for pretty much all of Wrath, every Tuesday is at least 6 hours of downtime. Is there something about Wrath that requires more maintenance? "
There have been times in the game where maintenance didn't happen as regularly as it does now. But those are only isolated pockets. Realm maintenance fixes a lot of things and increases server stability substantially. In the ideal world all that would be required each week would be a realm restart, however with a game as large and complex as WoW, that's not in the realm of possibilities.
The other important thing to remember is that game changes are coming much faster now than they did at any other time in WoW's five year history. This means that more minor patches to the servers are needed, and those often happen during weekly maintenance.
And I hope in bringing up this topic that no one decides to starting QQing over other games not needing restarts or maintenance periods. Other games have their servers go down, and no other games have as many people playing on their servers as WoW does. Such QQ is just a myth that gets thrown around a lot when talking about WoW's servers, so let's just dispel the myth right away.

Any word on when the next Patches of Yesteryear is going to be posted? Last I heard about was a few weeks ago when it was done being written and it just needed to be fact checked. Is it really taking that long??

Like the real patches, they come "soon"?
Tomatketchup Feb 1st 2010 3:35PM
Impossible, Blizzard has copyrighted the word "soon". (TM)

There's also the issue that a lot of the period where was had nothing but rolling restarts was during the protracted Sunwell period.

I am an aspiring blogger whos writing 1-2 posts a day about anything in Azeroth that happens when I play, whether it be my warrior, my priest, my druid, or my pally.
Is there some way to get your name out there so that people read it?

I'm in a similar situation, and have begun to spread news of my little writings. I've told my guildies, I've told my other guildies, I've told my RL friends (who aren't in my guild).
I think the best thing for you to do is just tell people. Don't go around spamming the link to it, but if someone in your pug has some questions about how to play a priest or how to heal better, and you covered that- just let them know about your blog. They might check it out, like it and let their guild know about it.
Also, you can try letting The Daily Quest know about it if you have something special or particularly relevant.
And, since I am shameless, I am going to plug my blog here because it is at least semi-relevant: eldritchreign.blogspot.com

As the person above said, submit to The Daily Quest blog here and keep doing so whenever you feel like you have a quality post. One day you might get mentioned :)

You could try to get on the Blogroll of a more well known blog. I've found many blogs through that route.

People are also more likely to read blogs that have: good spelling and grammar, well thought out and constructed posts, and are more than just your WoW journal. That's just general advice: I haven't actually looked at your blog yet VSU, so don't take that as a critique of your writing.

Another large blog I read regularly has a "Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday" post where readers/commenters can leave a small blurb (with link) about something they've written recently that they want people to read. I've discovered a ton of great blogs that way; maybe Wow.com would consider doing something similar?
I know there's gobs of wow bloggers--it might even inspire more.

You guys really need to post links to your blogs at BlogAzeroth.com. In addition to networking with other bloggers there -- who will cross-promote anything they think is good via their own blogs -- it'll also get picked up by the site's podcast, the Twisted Nether Blogcast.

Will I ever be able to use the Dungeon Finder tool in conjuction with my friend I'm doing Recruit-A-Friend wih while leveling up? It just seems that they're kind of removing the option to level up via the dungeon finder for people using R-A-F
Tycho Feb 1st 2010 2:11PM

For further clarification, I mean why can't we join the dungeon finder as a duo?
Cyanea Feb 1st 2010 2:14PM
Get a third friend who is high level.
Have your third friend run you and your RaF'd friend through SM Cath starting at level 20.
Enjoy your three levels a run. :D
Jeremie Feb 1st 2010 2:19PM
You should be able to join together unless your levels are too far apart. If that is the case, go back and help him complete quests until you guys are about the same level and can que up for the same dungeons.
