WoW Moviewatch: This is Why I'm Prot
The song is a parody of This is Why I'm Hot with a protection warrior spin. Still, I think it probably applies to all tanks about equally, even if the song pokes a bit of fun at the protection paladin crowd. The music itself is fairly straightforward, and completely accessible. It's got a solid beat, and I'd actually love to hear the rapper do other work -- he felt pretty solid to me.
The video itself was a little more bland. But if you consider that the video is meant to be a vehicle for the music, it served its purpose very well. The flashing lyrics were slightly distracting. But if you view the machinima portion as being a little more trailer-like, and a little less music video, I think the whole thing comes across better.
This was a fun video, and I'd definitely like to hear more from the performer. And at the end of the day, this is why I'm prot.

If my boyfriend is singing this for the next week, I am going to hold you personally accountable.

I know who I'm hitting on!

Eh, 4/5 for the troll dancing
The "you cain't cause you not" part of the chorus could have been a bit more inventive, but overall a good song.

lyrics are a little drab...
i was thinking of some better lyrics while i was brushing my teeth...
i could easily remake it but i suck at making videos...anyone wanna start something with me?

That movie was just flat out retarded and boreing. Thank you for wasteing our time with it.
Swifteye Feb 2nd 2010 12:13PM
And yet you waste even MORE time stopping to gripe about it, when nobody twisted your arm to watch it in the first place.
For what it's worth, I thought it was quite cute and clever, and I offer a *non-sarcastic* thank you for sharing it!

Can we stop with the WoW rap videos already? I am not picking on rap videos but too much of any thing is bad and I don't see anything particularly note worthy about this one. Just fills like filler material for posting sake.

Rap is pervasive in machinima because it's a staple music for the people most likely to make these videos: teenage to college-aged guys with spare time. That entire generation grew up with nothing but rap, autotuned "singers", Nickelback and screeching metal.
Out of that grouping, I think we're lucky that rap is the most common motif. Seriously, I couldn't deal with seeing a new Nickelback machinima every week.

I'd actually love to see a little bit of machinima concerning good ol' fashioned country. The only one I've seen was an old one from Cranius with the song Highwayman.
Thing is, this isn't exactly the problem of the column, but more the people who have the ability to make the stuff not doing so. You can't really find a lot of machinima of that sort outside of the realm of pop, rap, and other recent stuff. It's not exactly a problem...it just speaks for what the current generation is like: Rap and such is the norm.
So maybe there's a fledgling machinima artist or someone even interested in machinima reading this right now, looking for hints on either a new song you should create or a new video using a song that you can't decide on. Let me give you an idea.
Anything in the style of songs from before 1990 would be a welcome change in the hustle and bustle of rap and pop and such. Not that rap and pop aren't good choices...but if you want to try and do something that isn't overdone, try something of that sort.
And by the way, I actually enjoyed this video, too, because now I'll be humming it on my Warrior.

At your mention of Cranius' Highwayman, I had to watch it. All of Cranius' work is awesome, and if anyone making Machinima needs inspiration, that style of music is excellent.
brian Feb 2nd 2010 4:30PM
* watch it again, I mean.
Killik Feb 3rd 2010 6:26AM
Just watched that Cranius vid for the first time - excellent stuff!
I guess part of the issue is that the machinima audience is also a certain age - artists are using music that they think will strike a chord with the 90s children.

Boring...

Hilarious, I love songs about how one class is good just because and then semi-specifics for why others suck.

I don't know about everyone else, but I found that video very entertaining. Perhaps it's because I only stopped listening to rap a few years ago.
Bronwyn Feb 2nd 2010 12:16PM
It's a cute little song but I don't think the video did it any favors; it's not a super interesting song, just cute, and the video didn't help that.
seamus Feb 2nd 2010 12:17PM
This is why I don't listen to rap. Repetitive lyrics is repetitive.
N-train Feb 2nd 2010 4:09PM
I don't know if you've heard the real song, but the lyrics are actually exactly that repetitive. The real line goes:
"I'm hot cause im fly, you aint cause you not".
I don't know what everyone is QQing about, this is miles above the actual song and its only got two verses.
Shionia Feb 2nd 2010 12:17PM
Liked the verses MUCH more than the chorus (which was repetitive squared.). The text was well done, nicely placed.
