BlizzCon 2010 tentatively scheduled for late October [Updated x2]
Just moments ago, we received an email from a reader notifying us that BlizzCon has been scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd at the Anaheim Convention Center. That's a Friday and a Saturday, which are historically the days of the week BlizzCon has run. As you can see above, the convention is indeed on the convention center's events calendar. We have confirmed with the Anaheim Convention Center that this booking is legit and is "99.9% confirmed," but I wouldn't run and arrange any travel plans just yet considering Las Vegas Convention Center confirmed that booking, too.
We're reaching out to Blizzard for comment, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything else.
Update: The listing has been removed from the convention center's events calendar, but it's preserved in the screenshot above. We will continue to keep an eye on the situation and will make updates as necessary.
Update 2: Blizzard responded to our inquiry about the Anaheim Convention Center listing with this: "Blizzard Entertainment has not announced any details about the next BlizzCon. We recommend that players refrain from making any BlizzCon-related travel plans at this time."

I am unable to contribute to meaningful discussion. Because of this, the amazingly good-looking editors of WoW.com have made my comment less bothersome.
Thank you, WoW.com!

Can you say pwned?
Go wow.com staff. :)

I am voting you up because of the edited post. It was most likey a "first" post. So it's not for that.

This is officially way better than just deleting "First!" posts. :D

If this becomes the actual date, it is going to change everyone's predictions on when Cataclysm comes out. From what I have seen, most people assumed that BlizzCon would be in August again.
ZMES_Matt Feb 3rd 2010 4:17PM
Same coast again? :(
Nozze Feb 3rd 2010 4:24PM
Seeing as how Anaheim's Convention Center is in well, Anaheim, it's definitely safe to assume it's on the West Coast. Again. :P
Ringo Flinthammer Feb 3rd 2010 4:28PM
The convention is staffed by customer service staff. If it was on another coast, far fewer Blizzard employees would be there, and it would be a lot more expensive.
This is far enough out advance warning that one could easily book plane tickets and plan a full vacation out here. There's a lot to do in Southern California in October, even if you don't get Blizzcon tickets.
ZMES_Matt Feb 3rd 2010 4:30PM
@Nozze
That was more of a question of why, not where. :P
I know that's where their HQ is located, but it'd just be nice if they were to go somwhere else for once.
Too bad that Las Vegas convention screwed that up...I may have actually went... :(

Ain't no party like a West Coast party
cause a West Coast party don't stop
Blizzcon will ALWAYS be in Anaheim because that is right next door to Blizzard.
Who do you think staffs Blizzcon? Blizzard Employees.
xoxotl Feb 3rd 2010 7:44PM
Consider this a "+1" to the idea of hosting it on the East Coast.
Yes, I'm aware that Blizzard is based out of Anaheim, but the thought of being able to drive to Blizzcon (as opposed to having to buy airline tickets and deal with the TSA) and actually be able to pass on the cost of a hotel if it's someplace in driving distance (NYC, Phillie, etc.) is awfully appealing to a lot of us.
Just another example of how Blizzard loves Kalimdor over the Eastern Kingdom. ;)
(Hmmm, does that make California the same as The Barrens?)
slythwolf Feb 3rd 2010 8:44PM
Well why not have it in Detroit, so I can drive to it?
I think Blizzard is going to be more concerned about where their employees can easily drive than where we can.

That makes sense. Assuming 8 months from last major patch to expansion launch like with BC->LK, doing it in August like they did last year would mean a potential collision with the Cataclysm launch. Late October is enough time for the dust to have settled, assuming they make that launch window.
Babaloo Feb 3rd 2010 4:23PM
2 Days before my birthday, guess I can't go there as a birthday present then. :/
...Like I would even if I could lol.
Foodtime Feb 3rd 2010 4:25PM
So what if they are having blizzcon at both places? Reduces crowding and can get more people... maybe a 3rd one wills how up...
Nozze Feb 3rd 2010 4:26PM
I suspect Cataclysm will see a Christmas holiday launch, perhaps even November. They'll use Blizzcon to announce it, I'm sure. I don't see the incentive for releasing Cataclysm before then.
Ringo Flinthammer Feb 3rd 2010 4:30PM
Blizzard has never lived or died based on Christmas sales, and ever since Diablo I crushed all expectations, despite missing Christmas, no publisher has expected them to.
kia Feb 3rd 2010 4:35PM
They *don't* announce release dates at Blizzcon or any of their other conventions. It will be announced on the website.
Nozze Feb 3rd 2010 4:40PM
@Ringo My apologies, that's not what I meant. I was mostly saying that due to Blizzcon's potential date; they do use Blizzcon to build up hype for their products, so I figured Cataclysm would fall after that.
As far as WoW goes, they've done November release dates, too, so just basing it off of past experience with the franchise. Who knows, it's totally possible they'll do something different and release in the summer -- when they release it doesn't affect me much other than how much time that gives me to get a new computer =X
Speedmonkay Feb 3rd 2010 5:14PM
BlizzCon '09 was for hyping Cataclysm.
Why have another BlizzCon talking about stuff we have known and been reading about for the past year ?
