This is it. The final gates of Icecrown have been opened up. If you need help, we have
overviews and other resources to the encounters right here. While I'd guess that the majority of us aren't exactly competing for world firsts or even server firsts, progression is still progression. I know starting out that I had my own internal expectations of where our guild would be at and we've met them. We haven't cleared out all the new bosses yet but I know with time, we will be able to. Along the way, we managed to score a few unexpected achievements. I for one didn't recall going after
The Orb Whisperer. Anyway, some guilds take their progression seriously. In fact, I think there are a few out there who purposely used a lockout from the previous week just to have the extra time advantage to work on Valithria and Sindragosa.
What about your raid groups? Are you happy with how you're progressing so far? Did they surpass your wildest dreams or are you discontent and think you should be further ahead?

We're working on Rotface. Scheduling hasn't been too kind for us for the past couple of weeks, and we haven't been able to get solid attempts in on him.

Also, OT I know...but when are we gonna find out about the Resto Shammy blogger position? I think I submitted a REALLY good app and am on pins and needles.

My guild is progessing but honestly I'm not in a rush. This raid is epic and I'm trying to take it all in. The story, the characters, the fight.
I'm ready to down the Lich King but I need to pick my jaw up off the floor first.

Why would anyone still be in Ulduar? You can get better gear out of the new heroics and badge grinding.

Because some people wish to immerse themselves in the lore that is Warcraft... which, if I were to guess, are Blizzard's favorite fans.

I admire guilds who are trying to finish earlier content. Just because there's better gear out of some places doesn't mean all players need to be raiding it. As gear gets better, content gets progressively harder and guilds with unexperienced raiders or players that can't grasp the easier boss strategies yet will only feel even more discouraged going up against bosses in ICC. Some of the bosses in ICC 25 manI would even compare to Sunwell difficulty from when it first came out in BC days. Ulduar and ToC are there for learning how to do more and more progressively complex strategies. If you can't do them, you have little business stepping foot in ICC.
But on that note, again, I admire players who can go back and recognize they're not quite at that point yet, and use the earlier raids for learning experiences and put hard work into those strats first.

We're farming ToC normal, can't seem to crack Marrowgar or ToGC.

We're currently working on Saurfang. We're down to one-shotting the first three, but this guy is giving us fits.

Some very helpful but not THAT obvious tips: (I'll assume you have a strategy for slowing/killing adds)
You need to keep damage down on all possible fronts, and the earlier you avoid it, the better: (The buffing of the boss will increase exponentially)
1. If you us hand of protection on the person getting the blood dot, it won't tick on him, and the boss won't get buffed. Divine Shield and Ice Block works as well, but obviously only if the right person gets the debuff.
2. Let the fist marked person die. It sound unethical and unorthodox, but this way you postpone the second mark significantly. This is of course only feasible if you CAN do without that person.
3. Disc priest. Every time his shield absorbs an ENTIRE hit, be it from dot or melee etc. The boss misses a buff. Pure win! :)
Btw, we are at the queen... Dunno if they downed her this week. (Eu)

One thing that helped our guild to beat his enrage by a hair is Wound Poison. It only affects healing he receives from his Rune of Blood, doesn't help with the Mark heals, but that still saves us 400-500k damage that needs to be done to take him down.

The absorb thing is no longer true, at least it wasn't last night. He seemed to be generating 5x the normal power, and absorbs were still generating power.
Baine Feb 3rd 2010 9:39AM
@curtisrutland
The fight is currently bugged (at least on 25 man, haven't done 10 man this week), saurfang is on heroic mode settings even when you've got the raid set to normal. It's already been reported countless times on the forums.
jeffo Feb 3rd 2010 10:00AM
@curtis --
That might explain the rolling restarts this morning -- we'll find out how he is tonight when we had back in.
As for the answer to the post: we're stuck in the Plagueworks. We can mostly one-shot up to Festergut (though we sometimes still have trouble with Marrowgar, of all things). We've only killed Fester once so far. On Monday we had all night to down him and found our dps just a little short for some reason.
About Saurfang 10: we have a Disco priest and Holy Paladin healing. Between the Disco bubbles and Sacred Shield on Boiling Blood targets we can get him pretty easily with no Marks being cast at all. It also helps that our ranged dps have gotten really good at controlling the Beasts.
Cabbageloins Feb 3rd 2010 10:06AM
We were able to clear him last night (with heroic mode settings), but he was crazy difficult. We usually use the "let the first mark die" tactic, but last night we just kept everyone up and our healers went balls-to-the-wall, and burned him to hell. The keys to this fight are a) kiting the adds, so that they hit ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, b) mitigating Boiling Blood by range checking, and c) minimizing Mark by using shields, Ice Block, etc. A Disc Priest is a good idea here.
