This is it. The final gates of Icecrown have been opened up. If you need help, we have
overviews and other resources to the encounters right here. While I'd guess that the majority of us aren't exactly competing for world firsts or even server firsts, progression is still progression. I know starting out that I had my own internal expectations of where our guild would be at and we've met them. We haven't cleared out all the new bosses yet but I know with time, we will be able to. Along the way, we managed to score a few unexpected achievements. I for one didn't recall going after
The Orb Whisperer. Anyway, some guilds take their progression seriously. In fact, I think there are a few out there who purposely used a lockout from the previous week just to have the extra time advantage to work on Valithria and Sindragosa.
What about your raid groups? Are you happy with how you're progressing so far? Did they surpass your wildest dreams or are you discontent and think you should be further ahead?

Our 25 man is alternating between Fester and Rot and our 10 man is up to the professor. We are soooo close on both Rot and Fester on 25 but something keeps happening! Boo!
Bikhai Feb 3rd 2010 3:47PM
Sounds almost like you're in my raid group. :O
We just downed Festergut 25 this past week, and we managed to get Rotface down to 7% on our best attempt. My 10 man has gotten Putricide down to 2%, 5%, 6% and 9% (qq), so we're right on the verge in both cases.
The speed of the gating after the opening of the Plagueworks has made me feel inept lol. Too many bosses have opened up that we haven't even gotten to yet.

10man: Our "Focused players groups" got professor down or others tons of times to P3.
Our other groups are just doing 4+festergut and wiping rest of raid on rotface where people either dont know how to move ore ooze goes loose totally randomly. Big ones or small ones seem to drop aggro randomly even if theres DK kiting and icy touching, death coiling and everything.
Anyway, I wish I could convince people that "no, we dont need to do plagueworks before any other wing just because the damn thing got released first".. but then I get argue that "I'm not going to try new bosses if people cant even manage bosses that got released before".
But come on, who knows if others are easier..kinda like jaraxxuss, he was second boss and was faceroll on all difficulties.. heroic and normal unlike beasts at the time.

We a social 10 man strict raiding guild (far far from hardcore). We cleared the first 4 the week they came out finding them suprisingly easy.
Got festergut down after a few attempts and changes of strategies, had a bit more trouble with rotface especially with oozes apparently having allergic reactions to each other :P but got him down too, then totally hashed up putricide. We keep trying putricide, and our best so far is getting him to the start of stage 3, but with not long left on enrage, so we have concluded that we need our dps to be stronger to have more efficient killing of oozes and ergo more dpsing time on putricide himself.
Struggling on the princes too, have tried warlock tanking Keleseth, but cant seem to keep him alive thru empowered even with 4 balls attached to him, tried the 2 tank method, but keeping the tank that has the other 2 together alive is also an issue.
Havent tried any of the others yet, we had a bit of a roster setback recently and some of our healers are rerolls, to keep the guild raiding, and therefore not ideally geared, so we are going back to ToGC to try and get some more upgrades for them, as they are just badge and heroics geared, hopefully that will help.
While we do like to progress, hey who doesn't like to down that annoying boss :D we are not obsessed with it, if we fail we lick our wounds, go away try to get better gear and/or improve ourselves and then go back and have another bash at it.
As were a social guild that is our main thing, yes a fair few of us love to raid, but with people we get on with and have fun with, ok were not uber or going for server firsts etc, but we get there eventually, just making sure we have a good time along the way.
:D

We haven't even set foot in ICC. Except for the one DK that's on all day, every day running heroics then getting into pug raids and has 400 extra frost emblems, and is too good to run our fresh 80s through anything.
My guild is a leveling guild anyway. I joined them when I made my shaman last fall to have some casual chatter. But now that I've got my shaman to 80 and brought my oldest paladin back to 80 to tank, I feel like I'm stuck with them because I don't want to leave the friend's I've made for a raiding guild.
However, lately they have been expressing interest in doing guild raids as we get more people hitting 80. The problem is that most of them seem to be DKs and paladins though, and most of them are tank spec (several of them not very good at it either). I'm trying to get our 1 restro druid geared in heroics.
So I'm going to try to get the guild organized. If I can convince them we can at least do 10mans, maybe I can persuade a few of those paladins to go holy. (I will not go holy myself though, as I was holy for 2 freakin years before dual spec was available.) Then we can start on easy raids that we're overgeared for thanks to triumph emblems, like Naxx.
This is all wishful thinking though.

10 man - Gotten to Rotface, Festergut seemed kinda easy for our group
25 man - Gotten Saurfang to 5% with missing some of our Top DPS.
Our problem is scheduling and recruiting because we are just comming back to 25 man raids we are having some issues. (Previous Drama)
The other issue is trying to balance our 10-mans. If we kept a core group together we could easily have at least downed all of Plagueworks or Blood Princes/Queen but we are spreading our better players around to create 3 10 mans that get past saurfang and then hit brick walls.
I think its time to weed out the bad apples.
Poppy Feb 3rd 2010 8:58AM
Also failing on 10 man Rotface - two solid nights of it. We get him almost down and then some little thing goes wrong - usually ooze management - and we all go down. Pretty sure we'll get him next time though
Elionene Feb 3rd 2010 8:56AM
I lead a strict 10-person raid and we've got Lower Spire plus Festergut pretty much on farm, but like many people, Rotface has destroyed my soul.
We've attempted Blood Princes, but didn't quite get it down. I'm hopeful we'll get both of these this weekend as we try some new things, and then maybe we'll check out Dreamwalker in the new wing.
immoral magus Feb 3rd 2010 8:58AM
We're working on Blood Queen, but have everything else (sans new bosses) down pat. So we're 8/12. :)
immoral magus Feb 3rd 2010 8:59AM
This is in ICC25. Im slow.l
Matt Feb 3rd 2010 9:01AM
We've cleared the lower citadel as well as festergut, rotface and, just last night, the blood prince council (25 man). As to the last one, I think it would actually be fairly unusual to defeat the encounter without getting the achievement. If someone takes that much damage from one hit, it's probably because they didn't kite the empowered fireball very well, in which case a good chunk of the raid is probably going to get blown up with them. Or perhaps because the ranged tank didn't gather enough orbs and got nuked by an empowered shadowbolt, and losing a tank = probable wipe.
We're still working on the Professor, though we'll probably give the Blood Queen a shot tonight too.
Also, has anyone done the new quest "mini boss" right before the gunship battle? We thought it was pretty funny that he was considerably harder than the new VoA boss.
morkuma Feb 3rd 2010 9:02AM
casual 300+ toon guild here.
we are on the top 10m guild team. we put the most time into it, which isn't much :P
we raid 2 nights a week for 3 hours.
we have had our group makeup change 5 times in the past 3 weeks due to scheduling conflicts.
current progress
first quarter, 1 shot everything
plagueworks, 1 shot rot and fester
still haven't downed prof (closest was 10%)
still haven't downed prince (closest was 15%)
we started the new wing last night, got vilithria to 1/2 of needed, then wife aggro kicked in.
we all have saturday and sunday dedicated to downing EVERYTHING. we want to see arthas on his back.
timmy! Feb 3rd 2010 9:03AM
We've stalled on festergut/rotface, due to inactivity.
I don't know what happened but suddenly we're always 1 or 2 short on our scheduled raid nights =(
Redielin Feb 3rd 2010 9:09AM
We've downed everything but Blood Queen Lana'thel and Professor Putricide on 25 man. We go late in the week, and only 3 nights, so we're doing pretty well, I think. We've gotten PP and BQL to about the 45% range, so really what's holding us back seems to be gear.
I predict we'll be able to get Valithria Dreamwalker down this weekend, probably saturday.
Columhcille Feb 3rd 2010 1:11PM
if you're getting them down to 45% or so, its not gear. those fights are pretty much the same thing over and over the entire fight for the most part; there's a couple of phase shifts but not much changes between them. I bet it's not gear holding you back -i'd bet it's strategy.
on putricide have you tried all grouping up on the far right wall with heals and ranged and keeping tank in the middle of the room so that you can control where the slime pools go and control where the maleable goo falls to better avoid it?? This is a new strat my guild found out about this week that we're going to try for this week's attempts .. perfecting this strategy should maximize dps and keep ppl from not knowing where goo will fall etc. make things easier to manage and get us the kill.
Cyrus Feb 3rd 2010 9:09AM
We got Rotface down for the first time last week on 25-man, after two or three weeks of trying, and we're working on Festergut. Last night, though, we didn't get any further than Saurfang. We didn't have a great group for him, but also I think it was glitched a bit last night. Considering that, I think we were lucky to kill him at all. Haven't tried any of the Crimson Halls or Frostwing Halls bosses yet.
I don't know how far we are in 10-man. We've got Saurfang, but I don't know if we've tried anything further than him.
Beorin Feb 3rd 2010 9:11AM
I'm in a raiding guild that has been together since '05. We raid 4 nights a week, and right now we're 8/12 in 10 and 25-man.
Maxpowr Feb 3rd 2010 4:12PM
ZOMG Beorin!
Love you!!!!
We will make it 9 tonight for Dreamwalker.
Krsnik Feb 3rd 2010 9:31AM
Same here Souvlaki. Just can't get that darn guy down/ :(
P.S. Is anyone else reminded of the film Akira by the way Rotface/Festergut look?
"TETSUUUOOOO!"
vanye111 Feb 3rd 2010 9:34AM
My guild is working on Saurfang10. We got him down to 7% last week before we lost two people (me and an elemental shaman) to blood boils. Turns out we were both out of range of one of the healers, and neither one had mentioned it during the fight so we could change positioning. :(
We have not finished Ulduar however, but we have finished ToC, just not the hard modes. We're coming in with emblem gear and some 226 gear as well.
