Penny Arcade: The (WoW) Appocalypse
We (and the rest of the geek world) loves ourselves some Penny Arcade, and today's comic is worth mentioning given its commentary on Blizzard's latest plans for a premium iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad auction house and armory application. First it starts with a simple auction house app, then a rogue app, and then the iHeal.
Yes, there's an app for that.
So for your required geek reading today, you must go read their blog post, then read the comic, and then pass it along to ten friends or guildmates. After that you can call yourself a nerd, but not before.

"...then pass it along to ten friends or guildmates. After that you can call yourself a nerd, but not before."
Great, now my friends are ruining my nerd cred. by not playing WoW. >=\
*sigh* It's so lonely in Azeroth.
Jim Feb 5th 2010 4:14PM
It's okay. There's an app for that now.

Don't know why I didn't think to say that before, but good comic. Funny stuff. Also, as a rogue (among other things), I am frightened.

I really hope Blizz doesn't go much further with this premium business. I am worried.

Thanks Jim! I feel much better now. Have a cookie and half an internet. ()

I would like to give a shout out to all the haters who said "WOW will never run on the iPad"
How about now?
mtsadowski Feb 5th 2010 4:27PM
How about Diablo?
Phil Feb 5th 2010 4:40PM
WoW isn't running on an iPad, its a Armory/Auction House App.
Mikee Feb 5th 2010 5:21PM
I'd like to give a shoutout to all the special ed kids that don't know how to read.
And please explain how you're going to fit 16GB+ of WoW data onto an iPad with only 16GB of storage.
Azizrael Feb 5th 2010 5:25PM
If the iPad was a little more powerful I could see Blizzard making a client for it eventually. As low as the requirements for WoW are, I don't think an ARM-based 1Ghz CPU, very small amounts of RAM and minimal graphics processing will handle a straight port.
iPad S Ultra or whatever in three product cycles, assuming it sells well enough? Sure.
I won't be buying one, though. If I wanted to run iphone apps I'd buy an iphone.

This isn't a game running on the iPad, this would be an application running on the iPad.
Furthermore, no one said it was an app yet. It was "accessibility', meaning it will most likely be from the Armory itself.

@mikee
Not that I'd spend the extra money, but only the cheapest iPad has a 16GB harddrive. You can get up to 64GB, which would fit the test realms, too, and then some.

OMFG, WTB iHeal...
goodbye vuhdo, farewell healbot, so long grid/clique
now they just need to make sure that my toon will auto-dodge fire, spread out or group up when it's appropriate, or even follow the group between bosses...
Taytayflan Feb 5th 2010 4:15PM
As long as we actually have to log into the game to gather stuff, I'm ok with a mobile AH. Besides, there's gotta be some restriction like your AH'ing character has to be in a city with an AH.
PeeWee Feb 5th 2010 4:22PM
The danger with posting that comic strip into the general WOW population is that there _will_ be people that think those apps actually exist.
Common sense isn't.
Thorie Feb 5th 2010 4:24PM
There is a red dot in Gilneas.
Racche Feb 5th 2010 4:25PM
WTB a "Move out of the Fire" button for the iHeal app.
Ruhig Feb 5th 2010 4:27PM
That might actually make healing fun for me. :P
Nick S Feb 5th 2010 4:29PM
You are standing in fire.
[MOVE?]
Paul French Feb 5th 2010 5:23PM
You now have 99% threat of the boss.
Would you like to
[Use your threat dump] or [Pop all cooldowns and dps harder]
Azizrael Feb 5th 2010 5:27PM
Dumping threat requires iSoulshatter 2.0. That'll be $3.99 extra.
