Call for Posts: What I want to see at BlizzCon 2010

WoW.com runs the program through Aol's Seed. You can find out more about the program in our announcement post about the Guest Writer program, and at our newly re-vamped Contributing to WoW.com page. This week we're looking for contributions from writers telling us what they want to see at BlizzCon 2010. We're looking for between 75 and 150 words, and we'll select 3 to 7 entries for publication on WoW.com. If your entry is selected, you'll be paid $10 through Seed. Last week we found out that BlizzCon could be returning to the Anaheim Convention Center and that Jay Mohr is hosting again.
In order to get started read up about the program, sign up, and then submit your paragraph over on the article page (you can't see the article page unless you have a Seed account). We are accepting submissions until 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday February 14th. Please follow all instructions exactly. US residents only right now, although we're told our international friends will be able to submit work through Seed soon.
Good luck!

I want to see actual answers to some of the questions asked at the last Blizzcon. For example last year and Australian travelled to Blizzcon and asked why realm maintainance for Oceanic server's isn't during our off-peak period (which would being during the day in the States). The response he got was that "we are looking into that".
Come next Blizzcon Blizzard would have been looking into it for a year ... Does it really take a year to schedule computer tech's to work during the day?

^ THIS.... oh my this...
.5 Second latency is normal for us, yet more people from the US complain when latency hits 300ms, guess what... that's a good day for players from Oceania, the irony >

"Soon"
Gorgondor Feb 8th 2010 7:03PM
ocasionally they do do maintenance on our realms at more appropriate times, but not very often sadly.
btw, try one of the tunneling services if you wish to get ur ping down a little bit, i use wowtunnels, and average 200-300 pings most of the time.
Al Feb 9th 2010 12:50AM
If someone raises it again, hopefully they take 3 seconds to begin and randomly stop and start, just to be faithful to the Oceanic playing experience.
Al Feb 9th 2010 3:50AM
3? With the current state of the Battlegroup, 20 or 30 seconds. Yay for us.

I want to see Blizzard announcing a drastic change on their view on ninjas including what is and isnt considered ninjaing and what punishments ninjas give. That would be something different and extremely necessary in wow.
Jari Feb 8th 2010 7:05PM
It's too hard to control ninjas. It's always one person's word against the other.
The looting rules is set up by the people in the party/raid, not by Blizzard. If you want taking items out of turn to be an offense against the ToS, then the loot rules have to be set by Blizzard.
Meaning, if you set it on Group Loot, a frozen orb drops, 4 people roll greed and the last person rolls need, he isn't breaking any rules in the game, only the rules the 5 of you made up. So therefore, it's up to the group to punish the guilty.
If it's on Master Loot, and someone uses an exploit to loot items when they're not the ML, then there's a major issue.
swimstarguy Feb 8th 2010 8:00PM
That's almost impossible because everyone defines a ninja in a different way.
Some consider ninja's people who roll on gear that's not of their gear type, i.e. a Moonkin rolling on cloth.
Some consider it to be rolling for gear on a spec they're not using even if it is their gear type.
There are too many opinions on this for them to give their opinion on it. It will never happen and, to be honest, I don't want an official opinion on it. More problems than it would cause, imo.

It's too hard to control ninjas because Blizzard doesnt set those rules.
Sure there can(and always will) be a grey area but most ninja steals is pretty obvious. It's based on assumptions but those assumptions have become unsaid rules.
So, Blizzard could make them official the same way they have with the new disenchant feature.
Example:
Unless specified otherwise before the fight and agreed by everyone in the group, the Master Looter has to follow a /roll system to see who wins it.
Unless specified otherwise before the fight and agreed by everyone in the group, everyone's Main Spec is considered the Spec they're using in the fight.
Unless specified otherwise before the fight and agreed by everyone in the group, PVP gear does not have a Main Spec and can be rolled by anyone who can equip it.
Anyone caught breaking these rules will be banned from raids for X raid lockouts. The number of raid lockouts will increase with every repeating offense.
With something similar to this, when someone is accused of sending an item to their friend instead of whoever won the first roll, Blizzard could easily fix the issue in most cases and the game would improve a lot.
If they defined what they consider to be a ninja and what isnt it would be less impossible

@relmatos
I totally agree. Ninjaing is a huge problem (at least on my server) and the only reason i've actually considered quitting WoW on several occasions.
And to you others, just because there are some gray areas which Blizzard might not be able to control, there are still plenty of obvious situations where they could do something about it.
For example, several times i've had a raid where things were going fine, everyone was rolling on everything like they should be, then we down the final boss and suddenly the leader loots without letting anyone roll and immediately drops group and leaves. (Usually the quest item, off of bosses like C'Thun or Ony.) That is no gray area. That is just the raid leader abusing his power and jacking the item from everyone else who just spent an hour of their time helping him get there. (Actually, i think Blizz DOES do something about it when it is this obvious. Every time this has happened to me, I've told everyone else in the raid to open a ticket and report him. Eventually i get the in-game mail from Blizzard stating their official stance on the matter - that they can't do anything about it unless it was explicitly agreed on by the players before hand, blah blah blah. But guess what? I add that person to my friends list and i never see them log in again. I think Blizz says they can't do it just so people can't complain, but they know it hurts the game so when the case is obvious, i think they do - assuming enough people actually open a ticket and report it. If its just 1 person's word against another's, then probably not.)
Whether this is true or just coincidence still doesn't mean Blizzard couldn't add something to the game to help prevent the situation from happening in the first place though.
For example, they could add a feature when you create a raid that makes you choose if it is "primarily guild" or "primarily pug". If you choose primarily guild, then the leader would have all the same power that they currently have in raids. If you choose primarily pug, then things like changing loot and kicking would be up to a vote, like kick voting in random heroics. People would be notified which type of raid it was when joining, and given the option to accept or decline, just like they do if bosses have already been downed. This wouldn't eliminate a lot of the "gray area" ninjaing, but it would at least prevent the more obvious things, which would be a big step.

Release dates maybe?
Ralod Feb 8th 2010 6:53PM
Oooo lets see... I would like to see news on that long in development next gen MMO already.
I would like to see what the Deathwing encounter will look like. Release dates for Diablo 3 SC 2, and Cata if it is not out by then(but I think it might be).
Nathera in a Bikini?
Drakkenfyre Feb 8th 2010 7:07PM
They don't even know a release date for Diablo 2.
And Neth is married. I don't think her husband would appreciate that.

I would like to see more booth babes, and have vendors sponsor their own costume contest. Drinks at the Hilton lobby were very... tame i would really like to see more blizzard themed drink, or drink specials. When I'm in a 4 day Blizzard-driven drunken stupor I wasn't more Blue beer and Ichor of un-sober. It was fun to talk to some Blizz boys at the bars, even an Aion exec doing "research" via keg stand. I would also like to see another roots Metal band, maybe Dio or megadeth this year, Ozzy rocked it pretty hard and l80etc was kick ass, a longer set for both musical guests would have been preferred. Perhaps talk to the fire chief while seating instead of locking out everyone who took a leak... and the damn BAR was on the other side of the fence!!! NOES!!!! need more bars inside the event center.

I'd like to see:
1.) More time between panels. Last year, as soon as a panel was over, it was like a herd of water buffulo stampeding down a narrow hallway to get to the next panel.
2.) A limit to the number of similar entries (or just a limit to the number of entries--period) in the WoW sound-alike contest. After the 234,151,234th person going 'Need more wood' or 'Zug zug' I was about ready to tear my own face off and eat it out of sheer boredom.
3.) I think that adding more things like areas displaying artwork and such would be great. The building seemed somewhat empty in some areas and I wished there was more to look at (when not in a panel or playing the video games).
4.) Last, I would like to see more in-depth discussions. I am guessing that Cataclysm will not be out until November of this year, similar to the Wrath release. Season 8 just released, with most seasons averaging around 20 weeks. This would put season 9 in July, and season 10 releasing with Cataclysm in November. That's just pure speculation though ;). Anyway, more definitive details on the class changes and sneak peeks would be great since this is such a huge overhaul from everything WoW has been so far.
danglesthebear Feb 10th 2010 3:04AM
season 8 is the last arena season for LK. and itll be about 30 weeks.
Wulftracker Feb 8th 2010 7:10PM
The announcement for the upcoming second Cataclysm patch..
IE: Cataclysm before April 1st. so they will be working on patch 2 maybe by Blizzcon.
Also them to drop Jay Mohr as host. The guy acts like he has no idea WTF he's talking about concerning WoW or any Blizz product, and was so drunk and baked last year he could'nt even do a half ass job like the years before.
Get someone from G4 network who at least knows Gaming and gamers, and who the hell the NPC's are if hes gonna make jokes about them.
Hell to make it even cooler if they wanted a pair of co-hosts everyone knows and loves..
Recruit Turpster and Oxhorn, or Turpster and JaJa jarrar, or even better yet Felcia Day to host the con this year. People who know WTF is going on, play the friggin game, and have some actual Talent dealing with people.
Hell even dust off Ben" Leeroy Jenkins" Schultz and have him host as he's a likable guy and is synonymous with WoW.
Please Blizz .. No MOHR!
