Icecrown Citadel normal modes no longer limited by attempts

After each region's maintenance this week, raids will no longer lose attempts on wipes in Normal mode for Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and the Lich King. There will still be limited attempts in Heroic mode.A very interesting development, and I'm curious why they decided to lift the attempts system from normal modes entirely. Is it due to a relatively low number of guilds actually killing these bosses right now, or is there some other reason?
We will continue to monitor developments in Icecrown Citadel in the future, especially since the Heroic difficulty has been unlocked by a significant number of raids.

Hmm...should I be happy that I won't run out of attempts, or disappointed because I can't run out of attempts?

Eep, sorry, double post. Silly lag.
PictoKong Feb 8th 2010 10:16PM
IMO they should have waited 1 more week AT LEAST
One week after the lich king release, there is no more attempts...
paffinity Feb 8th 2010 10:40PM
Totally agree, should have given two weeks of attempts before doing this.

This should have been changed back when all the servers were causing immense lag. Our guild lost almost half our tries each week due to the server suddenly turning instant cast spells into five second casts, or locking out everyones abilities and allowing the boss to run around.
Actually happened.

Yes removing the attempts is all well and good but I want to know when we get our raid wide optional ez-mode buff.

Hmm...should I be happy because I won't lose attempts, or should I be sad because I can't lose attempts?

It's probably so that people don't feel punished for using all their attempts up on hardmode bosses, once they've finished wiping on hardmode singdragosa or whatever, they can still go kill Arthas in normal difficulty.

Sounds to me more like the limited attempt system was more a way to both kill time and give the high-end guilds who were gonna QQ until they got hardmodes a challenge. Knowing you can't sit there and faceroll Blood Queen until you get it adds a whole level of challenge to the encounter, but I think it was all lost when most high-end guilds were losing tries to server and lag issues, or just burning the same facerolls with alts.
Considering that most competitive guilds are already onto hardmodes within this week or next, this is another opportunity for everyone else to get Arthas down.

Maybe they misplaced a copy of Cataclysm on a burned CD, and they want to make sure everyone clears ICC before the expansion is uploaded on the Internet (or they just want to make sure a lot of people run out of content well before they are ready to release anything new)...

You understand, (if you aren't being sarcastic), it doesn't matter what gets released, until they switch the servers over to the new software, you can't run shit.
Let's just assume they had a fully working copy of the expansion ready (they don't), and you got ahold of it, and installed it. What happens? Your game doesn't authenticate since your version number is higher than the server's, and you can't upgrade your account because the site wouldn't take the key.

Was that not obviously a joke, or are a lot of people very dense?
miztrz Feb 8th 2010 10:15PM
Its obviously because they want people to progress to heroic mode, and limited attempts is holding some guild back... or at least thats how I see it.
Brews Feb 8th 2010 10:17PM
I am speaking from wishful thinking but I hope that it may be some sort of sign that some serious Cataclysm testing isn't far off.

LOL @ blizz
They realized that the limited attempt mechanic wasn't working when all of the top guilds ran 2 and 3 alt runs before working on their mains. It actually did nothing but hurt the lower level guilds that didnt have the personel for alt runs.
zurkka Feb 8th 2010 10:40PM
this, all the top guilds in my server are doing this and getting server first in 1 try
Reps Feb 9th 2010 12:17AM
I think it has more to do with the fact that people hated them than that they didn't work (although they really WEREN'T 'working as intended'). Half the threads on the D&R forums to some extent contain some sort of complaining about how limited attempts suck. That majority of players see them as a cheap way of increasing encounter difficulty without actually making the encounters difficult.

Not to mention the endless frustration of lolbugwipes.
Dudegar Feb 9th 2010 7:33AM
@zurkka All the top guilds on your server have gotten server first?
KJP Feb 9th 2010 7:46AM
Is it just me, or does that sound every bit as exploit-y as using Saronite Bombs? What it might lack in terms of direct impact on the boss fight itself, it seems to more than make up for in clear premeditation to subvert Blizzard's intent.
(Which is not to suggest that Ensidia likely didn't do it too.)
