WoW Moviewatch: Craft of War: Blind rerun
Our intrepid Moviewatch host, Michael Gray, is fine but is dealing with the aftermath of far too much snow and has asked me to show a rerun. He tells me that he's been receiving submissions again for Craft of War: Blind. Percula's wonderful machinima is easily our most requested video and rather than try to fight it, we just succumb to reader pressure and show it every few months or so.
The history: Percula made this amazing movie and promised us more. He hosted it on Vimeo, who decided that it was gameplay footage (which they don't allow) and deleted it without warning, taking all of the comments and views with it. Percula was able to get it rehosted with a promise not to delete it again. In the meantime, Percula has stopped playing WoW and is no longer planning on creating the much anticipated sequel. A sad, sad thing.
Of course, we're mostly playing this again for our pleasure. We don't really think our readers will stop submitting this, telling us it's a crime that we've never posted it in Moviewatch before. But just to set the record straight, we showed it here first on December 26, 2008 and often since then. Enjoy!
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.

I still watch this machinima once in a while. The best machinima I've seen in quite a while. The quality is top notch.
It's really too bad there won't be any more from him.

Ya it's good....
But this has to be the 3rd or 4th time I seen this posted on wow.com.......
come on already......

When I first saw the title I thought it said Craft pf War: Blind return.
Why did you have to go and get my hopes up Robin? =(
Robin Torres Feb 8th 2010 12:17PM
And I put "rerun" in the title specifically to avoid that. Backfire!

Yeah... Vanilla is perfect, BC is FOREVER.
WoLK must go and disappear in the past.
Tainnym Feb 8th 2010 12:21PM
Blizzard's animation team, please take note. An outsider bested you at your game.
This is still amazing to watch.

I love how this video paints Shaw as a super bad-ass. Would really enjoy more lore with him.

Shaw IS a super badass
*Shaw was a childhood friend of Edwin VanCleef, and personally trained him as a rogue.
*Shaw is also a master of stealth and infiltration tactics himself, and specializes in operations involving the rogues in the employ of the Alliance
*Mathias Shaw is a young man to lead such a powerful organization, but the 33-year-old isn’t daunted.
*He was the youngest member of the guild (Stormwind Assassins) when his grandmother made him a Fourth Finger at 10

Shaw is beyond badass. In all honesty, he could probably take out any of the faction leaders without even letting them know he was there. He is the ultimate rogue, like Uther was the ultimate paladin, Grom was the ultimate warrior, Sylvanas is the ultimate hunter, Thrall is the ultimate shaman. Mage and warlock...those are up for grabs. As for anyone who suggests Jaina, not a chance. She's good, but Rhonin could probably kick her ass in an all out mage battle.
Al Feb 9th 2010 2:25AM
After travelling back in time just so raid bosses can agree how wicked awesome he is, Rhonin will reappear with magic raptors to battle Jaina. They'll end up teaming to defeat Deathwing's previously unmentioned nephew. Because he's the fiery-haired mage.

I still love this video.
Shaw needs to be more awesome in-game.

Last I heard, the animator here was laid off from his job in the gaming industry? Travesty!
Why hasn't Blizzard picked this guy up yet? Sure, sure, maybe they don't need an animator, but the quality of his work speaks for itself. Make room for him? Animator/Machinimsist, this guy has it down pat.

Why do people request this to be reposted? Don't people know they can just go find it on youtube? It's not like it has to be posted on the main page for people to go see it.
Hiwa Feb 9th 2010 11:13AM
Because Wow.com has new readers all the time and WoW has new players all the time, presumably those people aren't even aware of the existence of this video to go look it up. So Wow.com periodically reposts it to give it wider exposure. The short blurb takes up perhaps 6 inches of screen and even has a title so that people who have already seen the video or aren't interested can SKIP OVER IT instead of complaining about what an independent website chooses to publish in their own space.

I wonder how many people started playing post-King Varian's return and don't know who "the chick with the wings" is? :P
chipersoft Feb 8th 2010 2:07PM
Sadly, a lot. Whenever I've posted this video to my guild forums there's people who ask who she is. Same in WoW chat rooms.
Which is especially frustrating since most of them are killing Ony at least once a month :/
Cyanea Feb 8th 2010 2:21PM
I started playing the week Sunwell was released, and even I know who she is.
(Wowwiki lore pages during downtime FTW)

I've been think all morning about how to pose this question without it looking like a troll and I just can't. But I'm sincere.
What so good about this video?
To me it comes across as ordinary with nothing in particular to recommended it. Based upon the comments here it seems that people like it primarily because of its technical execution. I freely admit I know nothing about animation but I can't see anything "outstanding" about it to my untrained eye.
So, for us heathens out here who can't tell a child's finger painting from a Monet (so to speak), why is this video worth watching.
Cyanea Feb 8th 2010 2:22PM
The way the music matches the action and the fluidity of the animation are what draw me to it (especially considering how non-fluid WoW animation is in-game. They're getting better, though!)
Plus the story is pretty cool.
Thijz Feb 8th 2010 2:27PM
Because the maker of this video goes WAY beyond what most people can do with WoW machinima.
