If you think the impending gear reset will be bad, remember the good ol’ days of Vanilla.
Players spent months learning fights. Single bosses often took months, literally months to learn or gear up for. Maybe four pieces of loot dropped, much of which was class dependent, and you had a 1 in 40 chance of getting a piece.
And all if it was wiped out by Outland blues and greens within a few levels of hitting the place. I remember when the legendary mace that I had spent so much time and effort obtaining (let's not talk about the mats just to make it) was eclipsed by a... level 66 quest blue. Yeah, that was fun.
But it has happened multiple times in the past, is happening now, and will happen in the future. It’s just how it is with MMOs. Get used to it.

A fair point... I wish Blizzard would advance weaponcrafting to allow you to up the ilvl of your favorite weapons.

I think that's Fox's point. We know that the raw stats on the weapons will be overshadowed in the next expansion (even though that horribly breaks immersion... i mean, really? The Lich King's weapons are inferior to a quest reward?). That's why the cool factor should be there - to make the victory over the ultimate boss of an expansion memorable, not just something to be DEd.
And Fox? Stupid intro. Lose it.
