The Queue: Two bosses enter this one, too

It's happened again, ladies and gentlemen. I've run out of things to say in the intro portion here. That means it's time for another edition of, "write Alex's intro for him in the comments below along with your regularly scheduled questions for the next edition of The Queue."
I should probably figure out a shorter name for that game.
Brouck asked...
"When Cataclysm hits what will happen to Neutral Goblin cities such as Booty Bay, will they become Horde controlled or remain neutral? Do you think another neutral faction will take over."
Unless the Cataclysm itself wipes them out, they'll still be neutral. The goblin cartel that runs places like Gadgetzan and Booty Bay is not the same cartel that is joining the Horde. They're two different groups.
Babaloo asked...
"Who would win in a fight? The Lich King or Deathwing? No fanboy comments, I'm talking about their powers and abilities in lore."
Assuming the fight is done in the style of our Two Bosses Enter series (which is way fun, you should read it if you don't), where the fight is one on one in territory that doesn't give either of them a significant advantage outside of fun flavor... I'm with Deathwing. He'll just spew lava at the Lich King from the sky or make the ground split open and eat him. The Lich King is a pretty damn scary death knight, but against the dragon that holds dominion over the earth itself, he's pretty much screwed unless he gets lucky and the moon randomly falls out of the sky to squish Deathwing.
Even in a situation where you give the Lich King his Scourge, most of them are completely useless when you consider the fact that Deathwing is a dragon and can fly whenever he pleases. The only members of the Scourge that would still matter are gargoyles and the val'kyr. The Lich King's endless supply of shock troops are suddenly worthless to him.
prinbball asked...
"I have a question. Will there ever be a only healing class or only tanking class? I would do it to avoid the hybrid tax."
The "hybrid tax" doesn't exist for healers or tanks, only DPS. Especially when you consider every single tank or healer as at least a 2-role hybrid. Any hybrid tax that could potentially exist is nullified because every single tank and healer would be taxed the same way. It would be pointless to even plan one out. There is no tax for them.
I think it's unlikely that we'll see a healing only or tanking only class at any point in WoW's lifetime. Giving those classes DPS specs allows more of them to enter the endgame, not to mention a pure heals or pure tanking class would have a horrible time leveling up or soloing. WoW has always tried very hard to make sure every single class can solo effectively, without it being a huge pain.
el ranchero asked...
"Has Blizzard given any indication whether or not they consider the 'platform method' of gimping the Lich King encounter in HoR an exploit? If not, do you have any idea if they plan to?"
They never banned anybody for it, as far as I know. It's pretty clear they didn't like it and it wasn't intended, though. As of patch 3.3.2, the Lich King will kill you instantly if you try to use that strategy. As a rule of thumb, if a boss up and murders you, it means you're doing something wrong. Using the platform method is most definitely doing it wrong.
Besides, even if Blizzard didn't end up fixing it, it's super cheesy and you're doing yourself a disservice by using it. It really sucks the fun out of that instance. I always hated when my PUGs made us do it. Let me tell ya, nothing's more fun than tank, healer and one DPS running up to do it normally while two dippy casters go take naps on the ledge without saying anything because they assumed the entire group likes cheating. Thanks for wiping us, guys. Appreciate it!
Next on my list of things I want them to fix is the ability to ride mounted past the groups of caster mobs after Ick and Krick in Pit of Saron. That, too, is super cheesy.

'As a rule of thumb, if a boss up and murders you, it means you're doing something wrong.'
Or you were silly like me and rushed in to try and attack the Lich King to save Sylvanas. Yeah, I got one-shot.
johnthediver Feb 11th 2010 7:11PM
But Sylvanas was probably so grateful of your sacrifice, she had you raised from the dead and gave you a little sumtin sumtin after you all escaped from the Lich King.
Baval Feb 11th 2010 8:03PM
oooooooor she said something along the lines of "Blithering idiot, at least Arthas has done me one favor in his lifetime"
.....ya know like she says about the 30 or so hordies that held of the undead so you could GET to HoR in the first place.
Most of you Sylvanas fans seem to overlook the fact that she would rather see you dead than alive, your just useful atm

Anyone ever get the problem where you're fighting the Lich King the "intended way" and all of a sudden your group gets hit for 600k dmg called the something of Frostmoune? Is that a bug or are we doing something wrong? He isn't close enough to us to fail, we just all explode and die
jasonkidd1234 Feb 11th 2010 9:29PM
I think that's what happens if Sylvanas/Jaina dies.
We were doing Heroic HoR the other day, and for some reason she started with one HP (It took us FOREVER to do the first part, managed to pug in TWO tanks that had NO clue how the instance was supposed to tanked, and didn't tell us until we wiped.
But anyways, Sylvanas started with 1hp, and SOMEHOW she got hit, and it ended up killing her, in turn killing us all instantly.

"oooooooor she said something along the lines of "Blithering idiot, at least Arthas has done me one favor in his lifetime""
That's the Sylvanas we know and love~!
Michael C Feb 11th 2010 10:03PM
They allow Human druids I think that would be cool. Do you think that will ever happen?
jbodar Feb 11th 2010 10:38PM
@jason
Yeah, it's another awesome bug, where Sylvanas starts out with really low HP and a Shadow Volley from a Vrykul takes here out and BOOM! insta-gibbed.

Hope you had a Pally who though to DI a rezzer...

"It really sucks the fun out of that instance."
Im sorry, but theres *nothing* fun about HoR, at least not from a tanking PoV.
Wulfkin Feb 12th 2010 4:33AM
I disagree. I think its a very fun instance. Its intense, its challenging and its an epic lore-laden encounter. I was really glad they took away the platform option, it was dull, immersion-breaking and ultimately pointless given it didn't actually make the instance any speedier.
I could go on. More here if youre interested: http://thebarrenschat.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/the-wonderful-world-of-make-believe
traptinacivicsi Feb 12th 2010 9:45AM
Yeah they didn't 'fix' anything.
All the lich king does now is have tendrils that shoot out form his backside if you are too close, just let him get farther away before starting to follow and you can still do it no problem :)

I am relatively new to WoW. I know that worgen and the goblins will have stories explaining their entry into their relative factions. I was wondering: did the Dreanei and Blood Elves get similar lore reasons during the Burning Crusades. It seems like they both just showed up on their respective faction's doorstep and asked for admittance.
Bikhai Feb 11th 2010 7:21PM
AFAIK, the Draenei came to Azeroth from Outland after it got pretty much destroyed. Their ship crashed (The Exodar) and they joined the Alliance out a hatred for the Fel Orcs in Outland. Blood Elves I think are kinda like N. Elf cast aways with a magic addiction. They were led by Kael'thas for a while, but he was driven mad and ended up as end game fodder in Tempest Keep/Magister's Terrace. Not sure on the specifics of how they ended up Horde except they aren't on good terms with N.Elves.
obc Feb 11th 2010 7:25PM
they did. http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/burningcrusade/
scroll down to draenei/blood elves and read the introduction.
www.wowwiki.com is another source where you can find even more on both races.

Do we have any clue yet who will be the leader of the resistance against Deathwing?
In WotLK it was Tirion who rallied everyone to fight Arthas.
Who is going to do so against Deathwing? Alexstraza?
and my question from last time (ok 2):
Why isn't anyone from the dragonflights coming to help Valtharia and maybe assist us against Arthas?
Kaorael Feb 11th 2010 7:34PM
If you play through the starting areas for both Races, you'll see how it happens:
The Draenei crashed in Azeroth with the Exodar thanks to Blood Elf sabotage. In Azuremyst, they meet Night Elves and the other races of the Alliance and help them, getting themselves invited to join.
As for the Blood Elves, they start on their own after being abandoned by the Alliance, trying to get their magic addiction under control after the Sunwell was destroyed while fighting back the Scourge. They enter in an alliance with the Forsaken to take back the Ghostlands, and after they kill the Scourge commander there Sylvanas sends a message to Thrall vouching for their inclusion in the Horde.

pls vote down my comment above....wrong place. thx
Montas Feb 11th 2010 7:37PM
blood elves do not hate n. elves... they have bad experience with lord garithos (human), which was leading defense of some lands around loarderon back in W3:TFT.
this garithos guy first left them back to repair some observatories and after took all troops and left them defense-less to defend something :P naga helped them out with that and after garithos returned, he gave order to execute all of them for cooperation with naga. yet again naga helped them and rescued kel'thas and his ppl from prison and left for outland where they helped ilidan etc...
mowarriorwade Feb 11th 2010 7:50PM
Uh..yeah, the Sindorei kinda DO hate the Kaldorei.
That whole "gtfo mah forezt" thing might have something to do with it.
Vaeku Feb 11th 2010 8:31PM
Um... What?
Blood elves and night elve do NOT like each other. Originally, there were only night elves. Then the upper-class night elves, under Queen Azshara, called themselves Highborne and started messing around with arcane magic. After the fiasco with the demons being summoned into Azeroth, the Highborne were turned into either Naga, Satyrs, or the high elves. The night elves told the high elves to GTFO with their arcane magic, so high elves packed up and settled in the northern Eastern Kingdoms.
Most of the high elves then started messing with fel energy, then Arthas came in and destroyed Quel'Thalas, then there was the whole fiasco with Garithos, so then they joined the Horde and Kael'thas renamed them blood elves.
As for the whole "night elves were with the high elves in the Alliance", the night elves didn't join the Alliance until after most high elves went to the Horde, I think.
