WoW, Casually: Casual guide to Love is in the Air

Love is very much in the air and the complete revamp of this holiday is good news for those of us with limited playtime.
Me: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Didn't we say we were going to talk about PvP this week?
I: They changed the holiday drastically. It's more timely.
Myself: Holidays are fun!
Whether you have an 80 or are just leveling, there are a lot of benefits to spending a part of your play session completing the Love is in the Air quests. Of course, if you are into achievements and titles, you are already doing this -- if you didn't get your title last year. But there are quite a few other reasons for casual players to participate in this particular event:
The Quests
There are five daily quests and a story quest for all levels, a scaling go kill and blow stuff up daily, as well as a daily go kill the boss quest for levels 78 and up. I highly recommend doing these quests, if only for the fun factor.
The Sample quest: You get this quest from the Public Relations Agent in any faction capital. He will give you a sample to force on people, such as spraying cologne in their faces or tossing chocolates at them. This is really fast and easy, even with a few people doing it; because even though you can't force samples on people with hearts over their heads, the hearts vanish pretty quickly and you can also use it on NPCs. This quest can be done once a day in one city only and has no level requirement.
The Lovely Charm Bracelet quests: Get the Lovely Charm Collector's Kit from Peddlefeet in any faction capital (you can get more if you lose your first one) and then killing mobs that give experience will give you a Lovely Charm -- which we can only imagine to be a piece of bone or other tidbit torn from your victim. Or I guess, if you're squeamish, you can think of it as a magic award for defeating a bad guy. Anyway, the "charms" stack in groups of
The Story quest chain: I love this quest chain. Love. It begins with Uncommon Scents in a capital other than Stormwind or Orgrimmar and takes you through the story behind all of this sample forcing going on and explains why you need to go kill the big bad bosses in Shadowfang Keep. The story is fun, and much better than just randomly flirting with guards as in previous years, but the real awesomeness in this questline is the mechanics. In Pilfering Perfume, you change into a goblinMyself: I wanna be a goblin now!
Me: Shh!
and get sent off on autorun to go steal a crate of perfume. And in Hot On the Trail, you participate in a fun series of scripts, even losing control of your character a few times. I squeed throughout the first time. I can't wait to see more of this in Cataclysm.
The Story daily quest: Once you've done all the legwork for the goblin detective to uncover the real story, he sends you off to be his enforcer. The location he sends to you varies according to your level, but the quest is the same: go there, kill bad guys, blow something up. It's very easy and the respawn rate is high. Unfortunately, on a PvP realm, so is the gank rate. (Captain Obvious is wearing a t-shirt that says "Duh" on it.)
The Boss quest: If you are level
Experience
If you are not max level, the dailies give a hefty chunk of experience that scales with level. If you couple that with the fact that you need to kill mobs that give experience to make Lovely Charm Bracelets, it's well worth completing them. Or you could farm on your main character and just mail the bracelets to your alts, allowing them to just bop around and hand them in to the leaders for XP boosts.
Cash
If you are max level, the dailies give a nice chunk of change. And if you're not, there is still a small amount of cash to be made from doing the dailies. The real money comes from the Lovely Charm Bracelets, however. Though prices have plummeted from the first couple days of the event, you can still sell any extra Charm Bracelets you have for at least 10 gold each on the AH.
Gear
For a time-limited level 80 player, the loot drops from the bosses are awesome. And I'm not even talking about the delightfully naughty Big Love Rocket mount, for which you need a lot of luck and/or time. The amulets that drop, and have decent drop rates, are identical to ones you can purchase with Emblems of Conquest -- but with far less effort. The fight is a bit tricky, so read up on the strats first.
Time Saving Tips
These are my play-tested tips for efficient Love is in the Air participation:
Lovely Charm Bracelets: Make sure you have the collecting kit in your bags before your daily questing. Doing the Crushing the Crown daily, and hanging around to kill a few extra bad guys, will help you collect charms (which are a medium drop rate). Also, farming meat for the Cooking Daily, as long as the mobs are green or higher, is a very efficient way to collect charms. And
Faction Leader turn-ins: If you are hearthed in Dalaran or Shattrath, plan your portal/hearthstone use for maximum efficiency. I highly recommend Hordies log out in Orgrimmar so that the next day they can start in Org, fly to TB, hearth, portal to Silvermoon City, then portal to UC. I find that is best for picking up and turning in the bracelets in the fastest amount of time, taking in account where you land in the city and traveling to the next capital. Alliance don't have it as easy because there is no quick portal between Darnassus and The Exodar. So, start in Ironforge, fly or tram to Stormwind, hearth to Darnassus and then either boat to the Exodar or wait for your next hearthing opportunity.
I do find that with all the traveling, the daily quests are not as alt-friendly as say Hallow's End, where you can just park your alts in the appropriate village and take turns for a few minutes every day raking in XP. But Love is in the Air is still fun and worthwhile to do on your main. Also, please join us for the Love is in the Blog event coming up this Saturday. You can meet a few of my fellow WoW.com staffers and spray your fellow readers with cologne. I hope to see you there!

One place they haven't nerfed: The Lyceum in Blackrock Depths. It works great... if you are at the right level.

Two quick comments. First, the summons quest in SFK is available at level 75 (I've been subbing in my 75 druid when I get a group with a few extra minutes), and at some point Blizz must've hotfixed the Charms to stack to 40 rather than 10. Other than that, great guide!

For Horde, I usually just port from Dalaran to either TB or Silvermoon, and then just zeppelin/taxi/teleport my way from one end to the other. The only annoying one is Silvermoon as you still have to run all the way to the Bazaar from the incoming portal area and then back again, but outside of that, it's easy flying.

The Lovely Charm Bracelets can not be mailed (message says limited duration item) and therefore I assume they can't be listed on AH either. You can trade them to people however. To get them to your alts you'd have to hand them over to a trusted friend from your main, relogg to your alt and get them back.
Aloix Feb 12th 2010 4:09AM
Hm, I just mailed one to my alt just fine.
Did not test mailing to non-account though. The charms themselves are of course soulbound, but not the bracelets. Not sure what the issue is there then.

I'm on an EU server, I could not drop the Lovely Charm Bracelet into a mail slot, is it different on US servers perhaps? My Error message said "You can not mail items with a limited duration"
L Feb 12th 2010 10:12AM
On US servers you can mail and AH them

FYI, the level to do the daily boss's is actually 75, not 78. You can do the quest as low as 75, so if any of you have 75 toons laying around be sure to get those extra chances.

Starting to feel for the faction leaders - getting all these necklaces of critter bits. Varian must look like Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier by now.
Gren Feb 12th 2010 6:39AM
They changed the droppng of bracelets too now so healers in groups ccan get them easier. Before only the one that did killing blows to the mob had a chance of getting one - now everyone in the group have a chance to get it regardless of whom that deals the killing blow.
To bad though that they nerfed the dropping - we did runs in ulduar with the siege vehicles killing the dwarfs - got tons of bracelets easily.

I only really care about the optional achievements (i.e., the ones you don't automatically get by playing the game normally, such as "Reached Level 50!" or "Completed 100 Quests!", on my MAIN character; So for my alts, the daily quests offered for valentines were just easy xp (And a picnic basket) :)
Mooma Feb 12th 2010 6:59AM
Quick tip for the sampler quests - if you're online at a busy time, go into the houses/shops and use the NPCs in there. Most people do the guards outside, but don't actually go inside the houses.
Blend Feb 12th 2010 10:01AM
Just wanted to point out that being a healer does not stop you from getting Lovely Charms. On the first day this seemed to be the case, but on the second day when I was healing my daily heroic, I was getting the charms left right and centre.
Also, you say that the quest where you become a goblin on auto-run can only happen in a capital city other than SW or Orgrimmar, but I have done that quest in SW, so that's untrue as well.
Crowqueen Feb 12th 2010 1:15PM
If you go for the quest, you get directed in any other city to SW or Orgrimmar. Then you get the quest chain starting for you.
I assume the person that wrote this started off elsewhere.
Gaco Feb 12th 2010 10:16AM
now the charms are stocked in piles of 40 and not of 10
Mattias Feb 12th 2010 10:57AM
Another tidbit: with Lunar Festival starting today, the Moonglade portals will make getting from city to city on your lowbies a lot easier for turning in charm bracelets.
poggg Feb 12th 2010 5:54PM
Times like this, when you need to go to all the cities...I remember why I love being a Shaman so much.
Res Feb 12th 2010 6:07PM
Ahhh I wish this was written around when the event started. Would have been much easier :)
SamLowry Feb 13th 2010 12:55AM
So are people lying, cheating and stealing to get the rocket mount just as much as they did for Brewfest kodos? Because I gave up on pugging holiday bosses after Brewfest when the behavior of kodo-seekers turned so disgustingly evil.
jackdmills Feb 13th 2010 7:51AM
Go to Icecrown and do the bombardment dailies for LOADS of these charms. Even when you complete the quests, dont turn em in and keep going till you fly 8 "sorties" and your flight privelidges are revoked. then turn it in and do the other one :)
Confused? Dont know these quests? Get to at least lv 77, go to icecrown, enter your factions airship (skybreaker for alliance), and start a chain of quests involving technology called "infa-green." It will eventually lead you to these dailies. If you still cant find it, try Thottbot or WowHead.
