All joking aside, and it's hard to toss that aside when dealing with this kind of role-play, I have a few comments.
First: Vampire like creatures may exist in the game but that does NOT mean that they are playable characters. That is NOT something that is done. If you want to allow people who choose one thing then play another, may as well allow all the demon and dragon and sons of Arthas/Thrall into the mix. Just because something is in the game, doesn't mean it should be played. Vampires are, until lore changes it, ENEMIES. They are not friends. They are not misunderstood. They are evil, and they want to destroy life, and the lives of the players are included.
Secondly: I know a lot of people, especially young girls and angst-filled teens, like vampires. Maybe it's the allure of the forbidden, maybe it's the fact that a lot of them feel misunderstood and alienated, so identifying with another who is alienated and thinking they are misunderstood too makes them feel better. The truth is, except for trite garbage like certain novels and movies, vampire fiction has had them as bloody, ruthless, cold blooded killers with non redeemable souls. Let me say that louder for the cheap seats: NON REDEEMABLE SOULS. So playing one, and fantasizing about them, is just silly in my eyes, and maybe once the people are educated in good literature, and grow out of their "the world hates me" phase, they will understand. We can only hope.
Thirdly: While I appreciate what WoW.com is doing, helping to get people role-playing and in things they wanna do, I find it deplorable that you are giving people advice on how to play a character which is, at least for the moment, WHOLEY EVIL. Come on! We don't need more sparkly wanna-be's running around.
I have nothing against Vampire RP in a vampire friendly environment. I used to play World of Darkness RPGs when I was in college, and I liked the world they set up. But playing one in Azeroth is just plain WRONG.
You can call us mean and brats and that we need to grow up, but I believe that is just Freudian Projection at work. Find me evidence of one redeemed San'lyn or one person turned by one that is NOT evil, and we will talk. Until then, just accept you have no proof of your claim that vampires can be players.
