I've tried all the AH methods to make gold; It just takes too much time and It's too boresome for my taste. I'd rather make gold while 'having fun', such as: BGs to selling gems, 5-mans to sell enchanting mats & gems, daily quests with the occasional ganking for world pvp, solo old raids for gold drops, etc. After you get your epic flying mount, there isn't that much of a 'need' for gold. After you got all your enchants, gems, etc - gold just starts piling up. I guess if you want 'cosmetic' things such as pets, mounts, or whatever - gold is something you would want, but for the rest of us? Forget about it!

The gold might not be useful, but running up a high score has been a classic feature of gameplay since well before Pac-Man and Tetris. Believe it or not, some of us find it incredibly fun to dominate entire markets, run competitors out of town, optimize the coordination of five or six professions across several alts, speculate on price changes between patches, mentally analyze buyer/seller behaviours for certain commodities, and make our pocketbooks grow in the 20 minutes a day spent idling in the DPS dungeon queue. Grinding, farming, and dailies? Not so much.To each his own, I guess.

My 4 level 80 alts would like to have a word with you :P.I need the gold to gear them all up with all that craftable BOE gear.

I make gold because I enjoy the process, but also because it's nice to be able to play the game with money being literally no issue. There is nothing in the game I can't afford, if I really want it, so I'll buy a minor gear upgrade even if it costs me thousands of gold.

I agree w/ Nicholas. I think a lot of people play the AH just because it presents a new type of mini game. I'm at the point that I certainly don't *need* to buy anything, but it's nice to be able to buy a BOE piece for a friend if they really want it, and I'm also able to keep my guild well stocked with all the flasks, enchants, gems and repairs we need for raiding.

Nicholas and others are absolutely right. To be honest, i get such a kick out of playing the markets that i spend more time in the auction house than anywhere else (and i have no gathering professions on any of my characters). I think this series is going to be amazing, and I hope that the community is also helpful and constructive in sharing their tips and insights. There is always a fear that sharing so openly will somehow make us vulnerable to scarcity, yet in my experience this has never been the case.
