Breakfast Topic: Breaking the bank

I have a confession to make. I am... the world's biggest collector of useless junk in game. At this point, bank space is something that doesn't exist unless I delete something first. From trinkets to weapons to armor sets to items that are utterly and completely useless, it's all sitting in my bank, begging to be thrown away, but I simply cannot bring myself to do it.
While some call me utterly mad for hanging on to outdated items and armor, others share my passion for collecting. We commiserate over limited bank space and remember the days way back when. The days of yore when pets, mounts and keys also had to be carried in bags -- and not the fancy 24 slotters people carry around today, no sir. We had Mooncloth Bags and we liked it. Well... we didn't like it, but there wasn't really another alternative. We are obsessed. And we need bigger bags.
There is one particular thing that all of my characters banks have in common, however. A full, unused stack of Really Sticky Glue.
I mean come on. It'll come in handy someday.
So how about it -- are you a packrat? Is there something you absolutely must keep on every character? And more importantly, what's the weirdest thing in your bank?

I have my vertigan's fist from my level 20 paladin quest. I can't make myself sell it even though I'm a 75 now and it's useless not to mention that I am a protection pally so I use a onehander and shield.
But I spent so much effort getting that dratted thing...
LOL

I collect cool looking gear (mainly from outland and old world because northrend just doesnt have anything too neat) I also have quite a few silly trinkets and potions. But mostly its gear and weapens (including my mage's tanking sword) that just look too cool to delete.

I go back and forth on my main with the bank space...
My main areas of packratting are holiday clothes/items and trinkets. But then I tend to fill the rest of the space with my "current project". Like now, I have slots filled with shards, diamonds, rugged leather, runecloth, etc. while working on my Shendralar and Goblin rep.
And I've never even pursued the tabard achievement because of space concerns. If/when they follow through on some of the ideas they've shared (using a dropdown menu like titles or a tab like pets/mounts), then I think I (and others) will start collecting tabards.
I like the idea of the trophy case someone had. A couple months ago I did the Link quests in Ungoro while working on Loremaster and got the sword and boomerang. I held onto them for a bit but eventually had to destroy them to make room.
And my last hope/wish would be for Blizz to eventually give us a special bag for holiday items. Or now that I think about it.. and this would be nifty... Make the items selectable via dropdown menu for each armor/item slot... but beyond that, make it so you put the item on"over" your existing armor... so that you still keep the stats of your pve/pvp armor, but it looks like you're running around in a full Brewfest outfit, or whatever.. IMO, that would add some customization to our characters, and all the endgame toons wouldn't look the same as every other toon of their class.

6,000...yes that's 6,000 snowballs. My dk's main/just for fun spec is frost dw-ing and I wanted to make sure I could pelt people with concentrated balls of frost until next years holiday comes around:)

The first thing I thought when I saw that screenshot was: "OMG! Why aren't you using arkinventory!" I find that helps sort out all the crap that I keep.
Hiwa Feb 15th 2010 10:17AM
My rogue's full Merciless Gladiator set and the t5 gloves that she bid 250 dkp on.
Bryan Dare Feb 15th 2010 10:21AM
I'm not alone! =)
And whoever had that trophy case idea: great idea. I approve.
Oomu Feb 15th 2010 10:22AM
I keep many objects I can use for rp. everything you can wear or put on the floor (Flags, goblin jumbo and so on).
I kept my T1 mage set. it was my first ever complete set, it's still one of the nicer.
Yes, my bank is full of great crap :) (lantern, weather machine, dwarf pipe, old weapons, weird old quests items like the wand to invoke a npc mage , and so on)
Tristan Feb 15th 2010 10:23AM
I still have 7/8 Bloodfang on my rogue.
But, he's actually wearing it since he's only level 61. I stopped playing him the day after BC came out & rerolled a horde pally.

Hahahahaha......*cough
Everyone in my guild will admit I am the world's biggest pack rat. I have my Staff of Celebras, my hammer to call whatzit in ZF, the urn to call Nightbane. I worked hard for those things, damnit. Archmage Vargoth is there as is my ring from the Violet Hold upon getting exalted. I have my pilgrim's clothes, several dresses, a picnic basket, my Onyxia Scale cloak, the Drakefire amulet and the Seal of Ascension.
I collect hats and finally got the Don Carlos' hat off the heroic encounter. I kept forgetting to run in and get it when I'd go for Heroic CoS. I have both the 70 and 80 Headless Horseman's swords (Please Blizz, let me dual wield them. That would just be awesome.) as well as my partial T2 gear set. When we run classic and BC endgame, I like to dress the part so I keep trinkets and weapons from those levels.
I have a bag of tabards which I know I could sell some of them and buy them back once Blizzard decides to give us a means to change tabards like we change pets or mounts, but I like looking at all these tabards. They are a memory of where I've been and what I've done. I've actually debated getting rid of the Zandalar and Qirag stuff I have, but...but I worked hard to get those things particularly as no one does that stuff anymore.
I would like a wardrobe where we could put the weapons and gear sets and then change pieces by clicking on them. Or maybe have a toon that is designated a bank alt and have soulbound stuff, like the picnic basket, that you won't use on a regular basis be allowed to be sent to that toon. I don't know what I'd do if mounts and pets weren't on a tab. When that came out I freed up two whole bags.

other than useful things that stay in my bags like chef's hat/MOLL-E/direbrew remote/etc, here's a list of stuff in my bags that is not useful at all but is impossible to get rid of:

I really need to delete more of the crap gear I have.
Anaughtybear Feb 15th 2010 10:50AM
Ripped Ogre Loincloths from Feralas. You really can't have too many used underwear.

My boyfriend's human lock has a collection of funny head armor. It started a long time ago when one of the quest rewards was a head piece that looked hilariously stupid on him, then we started trying on every grey head drop, just every head piece we came across. He doesn't play his lock that much these days except to use his professions, so half the time he's running around in a wedding dress and one of his many ridiculous hats, plus a fishing pole. His bank is half full of hats. I'm a packrat for useless things. I don't even rp (tho I'm on an rp server), but I have the broken bottle, a landing pilla, a bunch of engineering gadgets that have outlived their usefulness but are funny nonetheless. I also have a bunch of holiday foods, I like the ones that give some % health/mana, I always stock up, put them in the bank, forget about them. I started using them up recently, tho, to clear some space for my roses and stuff, heh.

I'm definitely NOT a pack-rat. Although, I have 2 guild banks and a number of bank alts, but they store my supply of gems, saronite, cloth, and enchanting mats.
If I ever dip below 50 slots free in personal bag space, I freak out and head for the nearest vendor and mailbox.
I do keep a few items though - like some fun seasonal items (snowman, snowballs, fiery dancing post, super simian sphere) - and some sentimental items (my first *epic* item, my first raid item, etc).
As soon as I'm sure I'll never use something again, it gets disenchanted or sold to a vendor. Yes, I still cringe when I do it. It's not like it's THAT easy.
Summer Feb 15th 2010 4:48PM
Still a packrat, you just packrat useful things.
Joakim Feb 15th 2010 10:57AM
I'm saving the deed to Thandol Span. One of these days I'll get in touch with a lawyer - when Blizz finally makes that an ingame prof - and sue the pants of the dwarves.
It's MY span!
Not theirs!
I got the Deed to prove it!
:)

I still have a Cleansed Timberling Heart on my original main from back when WoW first came out. I feel your pain.
nonentity Feb 15th 2010 11:28AM
I was a pack rat, I saved every piece of crap from ever world event I did on my way to What a long, strange trip.. Also I got quite a few enchanter mats on stock as well as interesting pieces of loot like stuff like the Love is in the air gas mask (I don't have the gas mask yet though, damn...).
But when I actually ran out of room in my bank+inventory on my main (bank full of Frostweave Bags) I did a thourough house cleaning. I sold/destroyed most of the world event stuff as well as epics older than from this raid-tier or the last. I only kept ie. the Tier 8.5 set and not Tier 8 and Tier 8.5 etc.
My wish:
Change soulbound items to to something between soulbound and accountbound. The items are bound to the character that loots them or whatever, only he can equip them, like soulbound currently is. But they can be transferred between all characters on the account. Other characters on the account can only store the item though, not use it.
I don't have a bank alt as a result because most of the stuff I'd like to store is soulbound, so a bank alt is useless in that regard.
And yeah, I might sound kinda wrong, just woke up from an unplanned 2 hour nap, still gathering my wits.
