Breakfast Topic: Breaking the bank

I have a confession to make. I am... the world's biggest collector of useless junk in game. At this point, bank space is something that doesn't exist unless I delete something first. From trinkets to weapons to armor sets to items that are utterly and completely useless, it's all sitting in my bank, begging to be thrown away, but I simply cannot bring myself to do it.
While some call me utterly mad for hanging on to outdated items and armor, others share my passion for collecting. We commiserate over limited bank space and remember the days way back when. The days of yore when pets, mounts and keys also had to be carried in bags -- and not the fancy 24 slotters people carry around today, no sir. We had Mooncloth Bags and we liked it. Well... we didn't like it, but there wasn't really another alternative. We are obsessed. And we need bigger bags.
There is one particular thing that all of my characters banks have in common, however. A full, unused stack of Really Sticky Glue.
I mean come on. It'll come in handy someday.
So how about it -- are you a packrat? Is there something you absolutely must keep on every character? And more importantly, what's the weirdest thing in your bank?

After over 400 days played on my main. Raiding from MC through Naxx in classic. Up to Sunwell (not complete) in BC, and up to 6 bosses down in ICC... I am still saving my Light of Elune. Waiting for that extra special reason to use it.

I have 50+ trinkets and nearly 50 tabards in my bank. I still keep spirit/apex shards hoping someday Blizz will make items like that BoA. I have armor sets from way back in vanilla. PvP armor sets and a few outfits just for fun, including a superhero outfit I put together. It got so bad I had to create and alt guild just for the guild bank space.
I keep useless crap in my bags as well.
...Archmage Vargoth's staff goes with me everywhere, he's my good luck charm. I pull him out during raids sometimes and /dance just to hear him laugh.
... I see no cure.

Next to my full stack of Really Sticky Glue is my 6-stack of Moist Towlettes... four less than full because I used 'em to grab my Intense Cold achievement.

Don't knock the Really Sticky Glue... I won a PVP match against a lvl 10 paladin using this stuff (I was a lvl 10 hunter). He was confident that he could close and take me out... that is until he hit my glue trap... then it was game over man! Hilarious.

My pally is my biggest pack rat. Stormherald, because it was such a pain to craft in BC. Hammer of the Naaru, was first on my original server to get it. Last years helm and sword from halloween boss, theyre cool. The damned tanking mace from SSC, told my guild if I got it I would start tanking, never tanked yet on him. The purple dungeon set, and the red ret set from bc dungeons.

LMAO hilarious...i'm not that cruel. i dont "randomly throw things away", as i said, i auction off the cloth and i ask before i do it =) i also have a WoW account so i understand that yes, some items will forever remain sitting in that bank even if it has no purpose =P speaking of accessories and stuff, i have outfits that remain in the bank ^^virtual clothes FTW!!!

My priest has a copy of "Priestly Preening: Be Like Your Betters".
My paladin has Sayge's Fortune #21: "Divine Shields and Hearthstones do not make a hero heroic."
I also keep a bunch of fishing memorabilia. On the two toons I acquired the Titanium Seal of Dalaran on, I kept the gold coin that got me the Coin Master achievement. On one it was Chromie's Gold Coin, the other was Arthas' Gold Coin. One of them also has Old Ironjaw and Old Crafty, as well as a variety of fishing poles.

My main banker has almost a dozen very large fish or various types. They're all statless, offhand vanity items, and he's usually carrying around one of them. But he can only carry one at a time, so why haven't I sold off the rest? Because he won't let me! HE'S the packrat, not me!!

For me, it's all lore-related stuff that, for one reason or another, really touched me.
For example, there's an Alliance questline in Duskwood that requires you to kill an undead elite named Mor'Ladim that's wandering around the Raven Hill cemetery. Back before I started rushing all my lowbies to 80, when the quests were new and interesting and I got absorbed in the text, this quest was amazing. It's relatively simple, and most people would call it a glorified FedEx quest as there's a large amount of running back and forth from the far West of the zone to the far East.
But how they go about it is genius. The quest starts from an unmarked grave that you stumble upon and is pushed along with a book you are given recounting the tragic story of Morgan Ladimore's fall. After killing him, the revelation that his daughter is still alive, makes the ending completely cathartic, with your toon placing her ring on his grave and recieving "Archeus" (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=2000), Morgan Ladimore's sword in life.
I still have Archeus and "The Story of Morgan Ladimore" tucked away in my bank as a reminder of a time when not only did my toon help bring peace to a shattered family, but when I wasn't so jaded with WoW and constantly screaming for MORE MORE MORE.
There's just no questlines like that in the expansions... sigh. It seems like with the advancement of the technology, there's no need to really tell a strong story with the quests. Not that the writing isn't amazing, because I believe that to be one of Blizzard's strongest areas. It just feels, though the scope of what I'm doing is so much larger, that I have no reason to be emotionally invested in it. Running back and forth across a zone to put a ring on a grave just seemed like I was making such a bigger difference. Ahhhh, tangents.
Yeah bank space. I don't haz it.

Love the nostalgia. I remember doing that quest and finally defeating ol' rattletrap Mor'Ladim. Your comments made me wish I'd saved the souvenirs, too.

I still have my full sets of T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, and T9 sitting in my bank along with a million holiday items and other stuff. Then there's all the non-soulbound stuff that I've mailed to bank alts...
Mortuus Feb 15th 2010 5:48PM
I still have the entire blue DK starter gear in my bank, just so I can boast about having it once Cata hits, AND I still have Mirren's Drinking Hat (because who doesn't want FREE BEER).
I also own so much other miscellanea and random pickpocketing drops, steamy romance novels, a few letters I recieved from guildies, and many more things that I should probably trash but WILL NOT.
Mystur Feb 15th 2010 5:57PM
I currently have four Frostweave Bags just for collectables: two set up for old Tier sets, one for awesome and rare weapons [Linken's Sword of Mastery? Mallet of Zul'Farrak? Why would I EVER discard those?], and another just for my guns [Hemet's Trophy Gun is SO sick looking].
Sure, my gear may all be leaps and bounds better than the "junk" I'm saving, but all of them are irreplaceable! I'm never going to get the chance to blast ghosties with Egan's Blaster again, am I?
No, seriously... Can I?
ari Feb 15th 2010 6:39PM
i keep a collection of AWESOME looking weapons
sakura_kaiba Feb 15th 2010 6:47PM
I cannot throw anything away. Bits and pieces of Tier items, outfits, rep items, and more junk. But I can't find the heart to throw any of it away. I need bank space. ._.
Kole Feb 15th 2010 9:07PM
I would be much happier if Blizz would just let everything stack to 100...herbs, pots, gems, ore, etc. Also adding the tabards to the character screen too (and to put one on just choose it like choosing a title...)
Lurn Feb 15th 2010 9:15PM
I keep an awful lot of stuff. Mostly holiday related things, lots of gear that I might, maybe, someday use.
My two main things that I absolutely will not get rid of, though, are my Glowing Brightwood Staff, bought for me by someone special, and it was my first ever epic.
The other, probably oddest, collectible, is the stack of night elf heads in my bank.
Birdfall Feb 15th 2010 10:36PM
Underwater breathing items.
I can't delete them. I never need them.
Blondies Feb 16th 2010 3:02AM
When I started to level a character on a RP server, found the value of old gearsets, so that's when I started to save all the cool stuff. Unfortunatley I had already rid myself of old gear sets when I came to that conclusion.
I use bagnon to get one big bag in the bank and inventory, because I hate the bag system blizzard has now. I make sections in the window to divide up between my items. That way I am never confined to having to much junk for one bag.
I save:
Set-items
Trinkets
Seasonal Items (still have around 180 gingerbread cookies in my bankers bank)
Items that looks awsome. [Bad Mojo Mask] and [The Fire Extinguisher]
