Crafters in my experience, WANT to make things. What is the point of having that rare drop recipe if no one ever needs it?
In my Guild, when someone needs an Enchant, typically 3 - 5 Enchanters will "fight" over who gets to do it. People want to use the abilities of their characters, and they want to be appreciated for it. Just like someone might be proud of their DPS or GearScore or whatever, people are proud of their crafting skill.
